  1. "I would buy in at least 10,000.00 cards" would have loved to see you buy decimal places of cards... " Having collected stuff then what do we do with it? " sell it on Ebay?
  2. Non NDR roads works, One set on the Norwich-Coltishall road on the rise out of Horstead driving towards Norwich. One set one the Coltishall _ Hoveton road. One Set in Wroxham (big queues of traffic). I think they are trying to cut off North Norfolk. Noticed this Morning, new lines of cones alongside the carriageway on the Norwich Coltishall road, at the NDR. Also much excavation of soil and laying of ballast up to the carriageway in the shape of half a roundabout. The construction of that half is very imminent which will involve closing half of the Colt road with lights. Then we'll be driving round a U bend for some time after that while they build the other half.
  3. It's not for you, it's for the grandchildren....
  4. From what you've said there is nothing stopping you making a model railway. If you stick to DC power (still in common use) as used in Hornby 3 rail there is no difference on 2 rail except how the power is collected. There was a Hornby 3 rail layout at Saturdays model railway show in Norwich. The track it'self is easier , set track with preformed curves is just the same, but with less connections, and there is now the option of 1 yard ( or metre ) lengths of flexible track to curve as you like. Only if you go for Digital Command Control would there be any difference. In DCC a digital signal is sent along the rails converted in a chip in the loco to produce motion and / or real recordings of locomotive noises. The hand controllers for DCC are covered in buttons as you can select and control up to 128 locomotives at the same time, and it is possible for the childs delight of having two trains travelling towards each other on the same track!!! Not a good idea! I've been known to put adverts for sailing events on model railway site too.....
  5. The interesting thing is that you have to obay all road signs, while keeping off the road, which if you are stopped at traffic lights is a contradiction in the wording. It also does not mention a police car on the road with flashing lights, but the policeman not being at the car ( and no police stop sign on the car) but 30 ft away chatting to someone on the side road. ignoring the main road. Can you pass the car? I would say you can, I have alway been told a police car with flashing lights, means it's a police car with flashing lights and that's all, because there is no policeman / sign saying you can't pass. That was not the opinion of the policeman who stuck his head in my car (the window was open) and shouted at me banging on the roof / side of my car with his hands and shouted me down whenever I attempted to say anything. If I'd had a car camera at the time this would have been sent to the chief police officer. As evidence of his impolite behavior and lack of knowledge of the regulations . Notes, The police car was parked, nose first, half into the side road, I passed very slowly, as I wasn't sure what the **** was going on, I had not in 40 years of driving seen a police car half parked into a side road as an attempt to close the main road. It was the driver on the car he was chatting to that pointed out I was passing. This was on the Norwich -Coltishall road last year...
  6. May I suggest viewing RMWEB if you intend to work on model railways for the grand children. There are many layouts on there, many ideas and many helpful people. You certainly would not be unusual in building a layout for the children / grandchildren. There are some frightenly good modellers on there as well. Examples of the frightenly good layouts http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/28293-manchester-central-clc-gn-warehouses-castlefield-viaducts/ http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/2978-waverley-west-princes-st-gardens-and-haymarket-mpd/ you may want to start with something simpler!! The car, is not a hobby but a necessity , But with the great reduction of income once retired, it will require servicing, so I'll be doing it... The two sailing clubs are required if I want to keep on racing and they have a good social life outside of racing. Since their combined membership fees are about £150 for a family, people don't join those clubs for social climbing...
  7. One is a member of two sailing clubs, and three sailing associations, One is member of One Broads Forum and views One other. One is a member of two Kilt forums, One is a member of Three model railway forums, One sailing boat, One motor boat. One model railway club, One model railway under construction of my own. One landrover, One Ten, One car, One Motor Scooter, One House, One and a half acres of garden / jungle Can One retire? I've got too much to do...
  8. I thought all fish had underwater exhausts
  9. I had a boat that was away from the broads for about ten years, they reissued the old number when it came back. All the BA are worried about is the money from your square block on the water, above that they don't give a (water retaining wall). In fact I don't think there is a requirement to tell them of any changes except engine type, your square blockage on the water, or a conversion from sail to engine.
  10. I was not saying you can't moor, Although if there were space further along it would be nice if you moored there instead. We need more moorings period, It would be nice if there were more electric posts, My motor boat is driven by an electric motor...
  11. Since I believe we established in another thread that towing rights only belong to commercial vessels, from the the towing point of view the sailies would have right of way, however the towed boats may well have right of way by being "unable to manouver" Oh the reason we need more electric posts on THE BROADS, is you can't get near the current ones because of the boats parked in the way.....(even when they don't need them)
  12. I suspect the authority will be more likely to take note of the mooring fees elsewhere quote by the EDP
  13. I remember reading of upturned wherries being used as housing by the river near Norwich. due to the post WW2 housing shortage some of these wherries lasting till the 1960s. Maybe thats a way of getting rid of the housing shortage today
  14. I see the EDP did some "realistic" comparisons with mooring elsewhere.....
  15. A Model Railway Show is on in Norwich on Saturday the 11th February 12:00 to 17:00 at the United Reformed church hall just off Ipswich Road. So if you want to come in from the cold, you are welcome. I'll be there helping display someone elses layout. but don't let that frighten you away.
  16. I don't think you're supposed to try to get the cabin up to Riyadh air temperature (50C)
  17. My motor boat came with a brass dip stick with engraved graduations on it...
  18. Funnily enough I'm rebuilding my trailer now, it was a professional build back in the early 70's. No weight plate needed back then, (it came in in 1982) the brakes are rather small and on only 2 of the 4 wheels. and rod operated brakes. I reckon it probably was capable of 1.3 tons going by what the tyres say. but was never anywhere near that, nor will it be after modification. The old boat was 385kg so maybe 500Kg with the usual collection of bit on board. The New boat is 500kg I've towed with it from the Hebridies to here in Norfolk and several places in between, I've never had a problem with towing it with a variety of cars Over the years I've replaced the bearings many times, and the shoes. The problem now is the brake springs are no longer available, I've had to have some made as the rust was worrying me. Once the brakes are back together, It'll be off for some welding, repairs and some changes to take a different boat

    Pwc?

Never, I'm watching the roads...there's enough brainless wildlife driving their vehicles...
  20. I was quoting the vehicle can not whether the driver can. or whether the trailer was suitable for that weight. New drivers cannot tow more than 750KG without taking an additional towing test.
  21. A Discovery of that type is 3500KG towing limit, as are generally, all the Land Rovers except the Freelander and military lightweight air portable land rovers. with coupled braking it can be up to 4000Kg I'm not 100 % sure but there appears to be a shortage of tie down straps...
  22. back to the original post ... someone arrested. http://www.edp24.co.uk/news/crime/man_arrested_for_impersonating_a_police_officer_with_blue_lights_on_car_in_three_holes_1_4875135
  23. Um they were still chasing Coypu up till the middle 70's. I remember the vans chasing around and didn't arrive here till 1976... the last recorded Coypu kill I can find was 1987, the last coypu team was disbanded 1989 As for the rest

    Pollution

Well there are no buses to where I live, the nearest is a mile and a half away. To get to work on time I would have to leave home one hour before I finish work on the previous day, due to the scarcity of buses. I regularly have to drive to Scotland, when an electric vehicle can do the journey non stop or with recharges taking no longer than my usual stops then I would consider them. I already have an electric motorboat, an Elysian 27CCP, however in order to ensure I can get home, if I can't get near an electric post because someone wants to use their hair straighteners, I have had to fit a generator as well. Solar panels look after minor use, but the generator (diesel) is needed.

    Pollution

wussername New Diesel cars do have a Diesel Particulate Filters, also you may have noticed petrol stations selling ADBLUE wihich is injected into diesel exhausts to reduce pollution as well. As usual politicians etc are jumping on the band wagon just in time for most of it to disappear as the DPFs come in. They do have problems however, see BryanW's reply, they have to be regularly heated through to burn themselves clean, It's been shown that much of the diesel pollution in towns comes not from cars but Buses, taxi's and local delivery vans...try walking around the bottom of the castle when all those massed ranks of buses are sitting there ticking over keeping themselves warm...
