  1. The buoy is put on Hickling you can see us on the end of hickling sailing club pier in the motor boat, on https://www.horning-sailing.club/webcams/ I'll try to post a few pictures later, but I need to conserve battery power. So bye for now.
  2. It's today chaos starts at 11:00 in Horning.
  3. Yep I agree, Time for me to get up and get ready to put the buoy out on Hickling.
  4. I'm up too, about the make breakfast , then 36 hours worth of food and drink ( no alcohol) . The Landrover is loaded up with the buoy, radios, first aid kit, race flags, lights., I just have to add a mast to put the radio aerial up high. Then I'll head to Hickling sailing club to set up.
  5. Just 27 hours to go, the guardships collect their equipment this afternoon,. Forecast North Easterly, 12 to 16 mph, gusting 22. Could be a fast race once boats are clear of Horning, with many boats heading for Hickling first.
  6. 27 hours to first start. Weather forecast still North Easterly, 14 to 16mph, gusting Max 22 mph, and that's overnight! Once clear of Horning it could be a fast race, I could see many trying for Hickling first.
  7. 110 hours ish till the start, 111 entries. Current forecast Light cloud and sun... Good 15mph wind ... Good. North easterly ... Not so good. It makes the first mile and a half through the village and trees difficult as the wind has to come over the raised ground and houses. It also makes the narrow River Ant a tack up river, a 50 foot wide river is difficult enough in a dinghy let alone a 40ft broads yacht.
  8. We've had a week of northerlies / north easterlies, that's raising the level of the southern north sea. More for another week. Broads water levels will be high

    My Day

Thank you to all our visitors to the Broadland Model Railway Club show yesterday, it was a good day. I'm some what tired though, it's a long day. All the clubs layouts now need reassembling in the club house and some minor repairs carried out.
  10. Thanks, the show went well, except for the DCC controller on Broadland died, it's not the first time, we've sent it away for repair before. We'll look at a different make replacement. We had a good attendance, and every one seems to have enjoyed it. John was extremely busy all day, and as far as I know he managed to get everyone's locos going. So the show should help fund the club, which we need, as our rent went up 40% this year. I love our catering these days, the wife of one of the club members is a professional caterer. Her assistance to the club is greatly appreciated. it also looks like we've sold a layout, which will also help. Not only that it gives us room to build another layout. We have two layouts near the start of their construction, soon to be three, One nearing its completion, and did have three completed. The enjoyment of the layouts is both the building and showing. Neither of which you can do unless you can sell layouts to help fund the next one.
  11. One weeks time I'll be heading to Hickling broad to set up the guardship. The clubhouse will be full of people scoffing bacon butties and coffee. Then they discuss plans for the race. Current indications are it will still be a north easterly, which will be fun with the wind coming over Horning as they sail down the street. 170 ish hours to go.
  12. Just a bump up reminder for tomorrow. We're off to the hall later to set everything up.
  13. The white boats of course have a spoon rudder designed to drop off weed. Modern high aspect ratio rudders just collect it...
  14. Problem now is the Lillies and weed have clear water but their feet are in 100years plus of farming run off and sewage overflow.. basically they are in perfect growing medium..

    My Day

The gooseneck on a sailing boat is the hinge between mast and boom.

    My Day

First day sailing since 9th April , when the gooseneck got broken, ordered then it was supposed to be in-stock it then didn't turn up till a couple of weeks ago. Then, last week I half fell in and dropped the tool kit in the river. It took a couple of hours of fishing with magnet, net and dydle to retrieve everything. All except the drill battery, survived OK. So today fitted the gooseneck which took some persuasion. But I got there in the end. Missed the first race, and although we went out in the second the boat really wasn't prepared. It wasn't until the 4th race that the boat was going well. Next Sunday, no sailing for me as it's Broadland Model Railway Clubs show at Hoveton village hall, 10am to 3pm. Then the following weekend is The 3 Rivers Race..
  17. There was also an almost half hour piece, on BBC news about Hemsby going over the cliff this morning 06:30 to 07:00.
  18. I noticed today on the river that Lillies and weed is growing all along the river from Black Horse broad to the Swan . The broad itself is open from at least 28th May which is the first Sunday the sailing club will use the broad.
  19. Email confirmations of entry and other details such as your race start time, were sent out 6th May if you've not received your confirmation then contact the3riversrace@gmail.com
  20. Just Gentle warning. TMOR? What's that? Thurne Mouth Open Regatta. Dates as above, many sailing boats on the water, from 10:00 to 18:00 in and around Thurne Mouth + - a couple of miles in any direction, many of the larger broads yachts will be competing. The regatta and Broads Authority ask motor boats to keep to the right hand bank, that's within six foot of the bank, except for the actual corners of the river at Thurne mouth, where you'll need to be about 10 ft off the bank... The general advice given is. For your own safety and theirs, slow down, if necessary stop, and let them manoeuvre around you go forward when it's clear ahead.
  21. Just a bump up the race is getting closer..
  22. Still possibly connected to the event, as competitors, their families, and some officials travelled from all over the country.
  23. Just caught up with this post, if you were meaning Horning sailing club cameras, there is a International Topper Class Association event this weekend, with training on the Saturday and racing on the Sunday. Photo of a previous topper event. There is a chance a helper / organiser from outside the broads has brought along a boat to help. Meanwhile on the Sunday the rest of the club will race from Horning to Thurne lion dyke, have lunch then race back.
