I was getting to Tescos Stalham at 17:45 no sign of the sellers there.

The road works on Wroxham road at Blue boar lane have cleared... So... The NDR Wroxham road roundabout is down to single lane from all directions including the roundabout itself.. Strangely the times I've been through it appears to be flowing better than normal.. And The Hoveton - Stalham road at the North Walsham junction has traffic lights and this morning they're not working properly...

Bacon rolls were a big seller before the race.. The forecast was for 30mph winds so the race started at the club house, however it soon became apparent the wind was not going to arrive , so the race was shortened, the Down river mark was brought back from near Acle to the end of the Thurne mouth straight , and the finish was at the water works.. There was a massive traffic jam at the downriver end of Horning, only just enough wind to keep them tacking across the river, but not enough to sail down river against the tide.. Some boats took 45 minutes to sail round that corner and only did so because the tide stopped.. Had to extract one Yeoman out of the trees where it had drifted in.. We were following the last of the falling over boats, / dinghies and punts in the rescue boat, it was only past Ant mouth they got some speed up... Before then the rescue boat was just going down river on tick over.. Had to extract one Yeoman out of the trees where it has drifted in.. 10 boats failed to start of the 56 entries, 8 failed to finish, becasue they gave up soggy..., it was one of the best attended races in years.. Sadly the drowned rats might not be so enthusiastic next year.. The second to last boat to finish and the last on Handicap had travelled from Kent for the race!! (we towed him back to the club after the finish..)

· It's warning time again, it's coming up to the Snowflake Sailing club Tri- Icycle race.. 23rd of October on the Northern rivers. Entries are still available here.. https://www.sfsc.co.uk/pages/tri-icicle/ 30 to 50 Dinghies, Halfdeckers and Broads sailing cruisers should Start At Horning Sailing club in groups every 5 minutes , proceeding to a buoy between Acle and Upton Dyke, another buoy Between Womack Dyke and Potter Heigham, then back to the club. the race takes about 6 hours. The start time may be from 10:00 at the club or as late as 11:00 if the boats have to be towed down to the water works due to light winds. If the wind is light the buoys may be moved closer to Thurne mouth , and the start / finish moved further down river the water works is often used.. Viewing points, the pubs in Horning, the end of the Lion Dyke in Thurne, on the river anywhere you can find a mooring St Benets straight is an obvious place.. Advice on Avoiding the fleet.. Keep right close to the bank, unless there are NO boats tacking across the river, if they are all going down one side then it's safe to go across to the other side. If you are overtaking Tacking boats always pass behind one that has just left the right hand bank, don't worry if the next one is heading towards your side, they don't want to break their boat by hitting you. If boats are tacking towards you, Keep right, slow down, let them tack around you, please don't weave about.

In the Late 1200s John Oxnead a Brother of St Benets Abbey recorded floods and seas breaking through to the broads.. devastating properties and land across the broads and marshes. In 1608 the sea broke through at Eccles floods and salt water reached Stalham, Coltishall, Norwich and St Olaves.. Today we have better sea defences.. So the sea has to come up the rivers, hence salt surges

We had a club member who spent a lot of time with a bucket in the water.. his wife on the bank pulling the filled buckets up and dumping the mud on the bank...

It won't take that long to recover, the 53 flood dumped vast amounts of salt water into the waters supplying Hickling, as did earlier floods in the 30s.. When the salt is flushed out, the remaining fish have a huge area to themselves, and will quickly repopulate over two or three years.. I was trying to find reports of the post 76 drought, I haven't found a Broads report but there are plenty showing similar circumstances in the USA.. There is a wobble in the moon's orbit in a 18.61 year cycle, which generates an up to 40cm change in upper and lower levels of tidal range of the sea, the next peak is due around 2035.. I suspect any flood barrier would have to be upstream of the BA moorings. Any lower would present a differential of pressure between sea and river through / under Yarmouth. Yarmouth is only on a sand and gravel headland.. Then there is the old river exit near Horsey where dykes are within yards of the sea.. There has always been leakage there, upsetting the current balance may cause problems that only a hydrology engineer could work out.

One major problem land owners have , is if they don't put no mooring signs up , then someone does and manages to trip up on something getting hurt. Then the landowner fears getting sued, even if the land owner were to win, it's a lot less grief just to put up the signs..

It was the Horning SC, Yare and Bure open Regatta this weekend, For which I was on Rescue boat on Sunday.. There has been a reduction in Weed on Black Horse broad, so as traditional it was held on there.. It seemed to be a good event and other than putting buoys out and retrieving them the only rescue boat work was getting the White boats through the dyke. There are however patches of weed, in particular there was one patch near where we had placed a buoy on the course.. Every so often a boat would sail round the buoy and then after a few yards come to a near stop.. As they ploughed very slowly through the weed accelerating again once through. Other boats which were sailing quite happily, would slow slightly somewhere round the course, but keep going.. However staying slow for some time due to weed trapped round their rudder. Liz when we pushed her boat out of the broad was found to be towing weed...

On Sunday we had Broadland Model Railway Clubs first Show since Covid.. The show itself went well we had enough visitors to cover our costs, half a dozen or so expressed an interest in joining the club, which is one our main aims, to recruit more members. Sadly our guest trader was in hospital, so we only had our second hand stall, plus 9 layouts.. 3 of which were under development including mine.. The Show seemed to go down well, as did my Layout "Tiree", The T84 radar happily rotated for the entire show with out problems and one or two people recognised it.. We have a new member, who's wife is a professional caterer.. and we had the best food I've had at many a show.. Much better than all outside shows I've been to, and cheaper as well. Should we decide to use this hall again, we'll need better signage, its a very tiny entrance road to spot, and there are limited places we can put up signs. They'll have to be specially made.

Certainly there's been times I'd have wanted to shoot down a drone.. we had one a couple of years ago fly down the back of our three houses (two neighbours and us).. it's just fields beyond.. so what were they filming and why?

I know when we've had sailing visitors to the club especially for the Regatta and 3RR , the open water sailors have struggled with the confines in which we sail.

if it was Saturday 20th then it was most likely the Great Wyvern Clubs round the Island race on this course.

Somewhat after Glenn Miller died 1944 and rock follies was 1976. I've got GMs complete works... Boy did he produce a lot of rubbish, luckily it's just the few good ones everyone remembers.. As for Rock Follies, Rula Lenska was famous for being famous.. Charlotte Cornwell, was a good jobbing actress sadly no longer with us. Julie Covington of course, went on to be lead singer on the Evita Album, and then shot herself in the foot by turning down the stage role, as her left wing views, meant she didn't want to be famous..

If you mean like this That's a member of the Broads River Cruiser Class, https://rivercruiser.org/ there's now over 400 of them. Very few Identical outside of the Hunter fleet.. Most have individual Handicaps for each boat.
