  1. Yeah so it seems. I haven't got my Mavic Pro anymore but I was always pretty underwhelmed with even the RAWs that came out of it, let alone the JPEG's. I guess the Hassleblad acquisition has helped them with their core camera tech.
  2. So those are just the JPG's off your phone? DJI's colour science really has moved on then!
  3. iOS has been using the HEIF format for photos for quite a while now. It's much more efficient than JPEG (roughly half the file size for the same image quality), but support for it is still a bit limited.
  4. I believe it's an (AF) Bourne 35? But yeah some hull shapes give a lot more wash than others at the same speed. It doesn't tend to be the AF stuff though.
  5. As she has the dark tint on the glass, it'll be the former Grande Girl 2... And yes, I love a Breydon crossing like that. Now I'm back to hiring, such conditions will sadly be closed to me :(
  6. I think that's a good plan. The jokes section is - conceptually - a good idea as it keeps that content in a separate place and people can just remove it from their feed if they wish. It was created to keep jokey content separate from the more serious stuff so that people have a choice. A big thank you to the team for dealing with the implementation of this. As someone who knows how much work goes on behind the scenes, I do not envy you in getting all of this sorted.
  7. I remember a few years back we discovered that it didn't like references to the initials of the Volkswagen Audi Group. There was a thread where someone was talking about a TDI engine and the word in question was - you might say - 'snatched' from them.
  8. Yes you'll see a lot of US vehicles round there, the service folk get them flown out in US-spec and often they are sold locally afterwards so the older stuff is around too. I believe it used to be the case that they could have them tax and shipping free so it was an absolute no-brainer. Although it's mostly USDM stuff, sometimes you see US-spec versions of cars that are sold here but with their different lighting and trim.
  9. I used to take the block off on dayboats pretty regularly or have the engine hatch up and adjust the throttle cable travel... You'd get a bit more power but it was rarely worth it. Having said that, when we hired Santa Christina back in 1985 it was a different story. A lot of their market was for boats going to Ireland and so the two Norfolk boats had also had the Perkins 4.236 fitted (probably in case they didn't let well) and a wooden block was fitted in front of the throttles to stop people being mischievous. Sadly, the wooden block was involved in an incident with a screwdriver and the boat seemed to go a LOT faster for the rest of the week... Those were the days. You really didn't need a bow thruster with that sort of power and a hull like that. The replacement Santa Christina (same build but not the same boat) that was on hire in the 90's also had the big Perkins and handling was awesome.
  10. I know people from Hoveton who say otherwise... But yeah, I'd agree.
  11. And then there's Hoveton... It's definitely not Hove-ton (as in Brighton and Hove), but is it Hov-ton or Hovver-ton?
  12. Yeah, correct on both counts.
  13. Yup, sure is. Let's not get started on Wymondham or Happisburgh.... I've even heard people mispronounce Acle.
  14. It's very much 'Borough' Castle and 'Borough' St Peter... I think in most of these scenarios it probably dates back to the locals not being able to spell / pronounce the name quite right and over time the simpler version was adopted as the 'correct' one. This is definitely not just a Norfolk thing!
  15. The rear dinette on Major Gem 2 is massive... I think you'd have to be 7' not to fit on it
  16. That's definitely a problem with the older boats. When hiring with my mates I tend to go for boats with a large dinette and opt for that as they can accommodate my 6'2" more easily.
  17. I have to say I can relate to that. I've hired the top end stuff in the past, often when it is very new. Those boats are often very comfortable (not always!) and everything is nice and new and shiny and you're usually the envy of other boaters at the moorings..... But you've usually paid two and a half times what the guy next to you in a Melody or a Major Gem has paid... And he's seeing exactly the same sights and sounds and is enjoying his holiday just as much. But also, because he's saved so much on the hire cost, he's able to eat out most nights and still pay less. I don't hire the new stuff any more....
  18. Weeting is quite nice from what I remember, although it's a while since I've been there. Getting on for 20 years ago I was going out with a girl from Brandon and we popped to Weeting Castle a few times, seemed like a pleasant spot. Also the good news is I think Weeting is technically in Norfolk, though it is right on the border.
  19. Although I definitely don't agree with people abusing the rules on the inner broad, we did notice last September that the signs were not particularly noticable and not in the best of shape. With the influx of first-timers last season and probably this year too, I'm not that surprised that there have been issues. I have known the rules for Black Horse and South Walsham since forever (yes you can mudweight on Black Horse as far as I understand it, else I'm a very naughty boy) but newcomers will not.
  20. Yeah I'd tend to agree. Here is an image taken at about 100ft altitude and perhaps 300ft from the operator. You can tell there are people in the image but that really is the extent of it.
  21. Yeah, agreed. Unfortunately it was a few idiots over the last few years which have gotten drones a really bad name. I've always flown carefully and well away from people I wasn't with, but I've seen some really stupid flying too and that's why they're now banned by landowners in a lot of places on the Broads. Launching from a boat remains the 'easiest' option in that regard although anyone who has done it will know just how scary launching from and landing on (or catching from) a boat is! Drones stay perfectly on the spot, but boats do not. That's one area in which the larger drones such as the Phantom were much better as the longer legs meant you could more easily land on a boat or riverbank. But you can't put a Phantom in your pocket, and you can get leg extensions for the smaller models. I sold my Mavic Pro last summer, having not used it for about a year and because they're an expensive thing to have sitting around idle. I have been tempted by the Mini 2, though. It's very good for the price.
  22. I'm not the biggest diesel car fan, but I do know that the 1.6 diesel version of my Honda is easily capable of 65-70mpg and some people (with a lighter foot than me) manage to get 80mpg . We get around 42-44 from the i-VTEC version or more like 48 if my wife drives. Really good for a 'warm' petrol (thanks to the aerodynamics and those clever Honda engineers) but quite a difference in cost. Doing the maths, it's not worth me changing - But it does make you think!
  23. Yeah, I remember a couple of years back loads of people were phoning the BA in digust to report an obstruction in the water and a load of signage was put up. Of course it was just the river bed and the BA aren't going to be touching that because it's a natural feature.
  24. As ever in football it'll be all about money, so it's surely a bad thing.
  25. Yup, they've been doing it for a long time. As excellent as the (now pretty much legendary) B58 engine is in terms of power output and driveability, it has a problem with destroying oil filters mainly because of the ridiculous service intervals and that causes cam chain issues. And yeah, the cam chain and the VANOS (BMW speak for VVT) solenoids are on the back of the engine where they're a complete pig to get at. I know most of the german brands switched their model to making money out of servicing rather than selling cars back in the mid-noughties, but it still seems daft.
