That looks like a great event, I don't think I've heard of one like it before.Β

There is a trend toward promoting all holidays as being "luxury" with many newer craft seemingly trying to capture an image of one of the Super Yacht class seen in photos of the south of France.
A Broads holiday used to feel a bit like camping.. wild moorings, learning to handle a boat, people helping each other out and just 'making do' in the fresh air.... whatever the weather, it was about an experience or even an adventure.
That's why we fell in love with Broads, just having an adventure far removed from everyday life as we knew it. A proper holiday where you had fun!

It would never catch on.... π

It would be great if modern wind energy production could be harnessed within traditional wind pump looking structures for broads use.
I realise there would be many obstacles including having enough consistent wind and power storage. Probably will never be practical but it's a nice idea.

I'm guessing that any speed advantage from the atmosphere will be lost to lack of oxygen to the players π

There is one in either Berkshire, Surrey or Oxfordshire (Sorry it was a long time ago) where you can sit in all the seats surrounded by all the controls and panelsΒ as it was and imagine. Those nose and tail gunners were squeezed in!
The one in Lincolnshire (I think) Just Jane did taxi runs.
I was once able to arrange a private visit inside the one at Duxford for my dad, my uncle was a tail gunner in a Lanc during WW2 in 101 squadron.
I think I may have mentioned in another thread some time ago that, like so many, he didn't make it.

I think I'd pretty much give an arm and a leg for a flight in the BBMF Lancaster!
I know it's not going to happen of course π

Having just bought a boat under similar circumstances from the same place I can certainly recommend the friendly, knowledgeable and helpful service and advice I received throughout the whole process π

Thanks John, I understand the whole setup a lot better now thanks to you π
I have a dipstick for the time being thank goodness so it's not urgent.
-
Doesn't seem to be John, the boat is a Broom 29 and I think the fuel gauge is a later addition. Having said that I wonder why it was put in such an inaccessible place, there are certainly more accessible areas of the tank!
-
Good idea John, thank you. Going back in the morning so that's my first job now π

By crawling into the bilge and laying across the engine I could just see the sender under the deck using a torch... a lifetime of beer and pies meant it remained out of reach sadly π
Luckily the boatyard has a helpful, thin young trainee who wasn't in today but may well have a job assignment before long ππ

Yes, she has been static for a number of months. Crossed Breydon Thursday and it was calm as a mill pond so may have to simulate waves π
-
My fuel gauge goes straight to "Full" as soon as the ignition is switched on.
I have a dipstick which suggests half a tank.
I hope to have a look at this problem tomorrow or Monday and wondered if anyone had tips of what and where to look first? So far I only know where the gauge is and the general area of the tank!
The boat is a Broom 29 and the gauge is an aftermarket addition professionally fitted but when and by who isn't known.
-
That's it then ... you are completely hooked π
Good to hear you had a great time π

Warm day, gentle cruise, cold beer... I've always found it a winning combination.
Although it wasn't us last week, at any given start of cruise we will probably look like a couple in their 60s loading cases of beer onboard
Never been anywhere near drunk in charge of a boat and never will though. It's all about refreshment and relaxation... for us anywayΒ

This is definitely what we found having changed boats in the last few months! The boat we had sold very quickly, it then took a while to find what we wanted.
Appollo Duck does not seem to be on everyone's radar when buying and it was here we found our new boat.
(It was actually mentioned on here before we started looking so it's worth checking back through the forum in case a boat mentioned a while ago is still available)
