  1. It is surprising how bad it has to be before full winterizing is absolutely essential. Of course if you are a good distance from your boat it makes good sense to do it for obvious reasons not least being that the same bad weather may make the journey impossible.

I'm sure that everyone who moors in a marina Woolf be able to approac the owner for help in an emergency.

That's not to make light of the worry and possible expense but hopefully the very worst cases can hopefully be avoided whatever measures transpire

  2. I think as things open up and some form of normality returns then your appetite for going out will return with it. It's also Autumn of course and some kind of ancient hibernation gene is probably kicking in, come the Spring you'll be back hunting dinosaurs 🙂

  3. Interesting but as far as The Norfolk Broads are concerned it's complicated! Our marinas are probably struggling enough without having to give refunds. I would decline one if offered personally.

If it somehow was applied to tolls, although I don't know if it could, then surely the BA would simply apply higher increases in the future to recoup.

Just my opinion, I don't have a specific definite answer.

  4. It does sound like a seperation anxiety, Sam's idea sounds good.

If you prefer to keep her out of your bedroom you could try keeping some old clothing of yours that you put down in her bed but only when you retire for the night and take up again in the morning.

  5. If he uses a mobile phone then setting it to vibrate may help bring his attention to the call, otherwise I'm pretty sure you can get landline phones that flash as well as ring that can help avoid missed calls.

I second the idea of speaking to his local council, it's certainly reassuring that my mum has a non intrusive monitoring scheme from hers.

David you should have sent that post on my big win thread, no matter how sentimental it was. You're among friends here

Absolutely, well said Gracie. The friendship side of NBN is one of it's most valuable and important aspects, it reflects the whole spirit of the Broads and Boating. This is a good time to remember that the discussions are all underpinned by the idea that we are all people that it's good to talk to.

I'm personally regretting getting into one or two discussions that should have been left at "agree to disagree"

  7. It's a pain so deep and personal that it's hard to imagine being in that awful situation. Just like Chris you have eloquently shown us a glimpse  of what you bear. In fact you are giving us the warning that you wish you had... Thank you and take care.

  8. You describe your loss and the sad aftermath with great dignity and bravery Chris, I can't imagine coping half so well. I hope something of this year's Christmas can be salvaged and if not then hopefully plans can be made for family get together as soon after as possible.

  9. I seem to be having trouble finding the words I need these last few days but the bottom line is that we are a community here and now is a good time to remember our shared interests and passion and to feel that we are among friends.

There is nearly always someone online in the forum and I'm certain every one of us has a sympathetic ear ready for any member who just wants a chat.

  10. I have just written and then deleted 3 or 4 posts.

Every time I realised exactly what those who disagree might say and tried to include answers to the perfectly legitimate counter viewpoints.

But now I wonder if anyone, not just here, has ever actually changed their opinion substantially based on someone else's opinion?

There are no "bad" people here, we all bring personal experience to our decisions and do our best.

So, whatever any of us are doing just carry on keeping safe and keeping others safe the best way you decide how.

    Good night 🍺

If people repeat such rhetoric often enough others will start to believe them. I haven't seen any one on this thread look for loopholes in the law.

To be fair I would like to just point out that Chris did not refer to members in this thread or otherwise but to the population in general and further that in everyday use the term looking for loopholes is generally understood to have a wider meaning of personal exceptions in order to avoid something. This is a discussion not a formal or legal document. The whole tone would be a lot pleasanter if we imagined each comment being said to us over a friendly cuppa beside our moored boats.

No, I didn't. I was trying to make the point (lost on you) that there are those who blindly follow the guidance (which changes with the wind) without making any judgement themselves, and there are those, like rightsaidfred and me, who carefully read and understand the law, consider the guidance and come to a reasoned decision. If everyone came to the same decision regarding law, there'd be no need for lawyers.

You are clearly the font of excellence, no one can think as clearly as you. Congratulations
