  1. You didn't think to walk around it then?
  2. She's out for now, wait till that puddle gets bigger....
  3. Sussed that bit, previous owner is left handed so sat on the other side and changed it to make it more intuative, I knew there was something wrong about him...
  4. I have been given an old Yamaha P165 outboard from about 1971 on the basis the previous owner wants a go when I get it going, it's an 8HP 2 stroke. Does anyone have any info on such a museum artefact as this? I'm looking for points gap and timing info mainly. I've had it running from a bottle of aspen chainsaw fuel so far as the stuff in the tank is estimated about 30 years old, needed a clean up of the points to get sparks but I think they need setting properly, carb was surprisingly clean inside. Someone has messed with tiller cables as first spotted ignition fully retarded and carb butterfly shut in fast position and ignition advanced and butterfly open in slow position so they need changing back.
  5. Ssa was one of the reasons we moved to the Broads and the first season there we'd get notifications of it coming into force while driving to the boat that confirmed the move to be a good choice. Living a 10 minute walk from the boat had its bonuses too though.
  6. Out of main season is best for Northern rivers.
  7. Holding tank issue solved... You're welcome....
  8. Nice to meet earlier Dan, good luck with the boat (and the wallet).
  9. What time of year have you booked for, the northern rivers won't be so chilled in silly season.
  10. How much space below tank? Could maybe fit an outlet at the bottom direct to seacock so when open just drops out naturally and when closed is a regular tank setup, although a non pumped bog leaves things much bigger than a pumped bog.
  11. BIT of a learning curve??? You must still be on the very bottom of the curve then, it'll get a lot steeper yet and wallets are not fitted with handbrakes....
  12. Forget the diverter valve then as you don't have the type of loo I was thinking of, sounds like an old broads dump through type (quite a literal description ). You could fit an extra outlet to the tank and have a pump from tank to skin fitting/seacock to empty the tank but the chemicals for the tank shouldn't be pumped into the river, with the right ventilation you can use a tank without chemicals. I was assuming a bog with 38mm hose outlet to tank/skin fitting.
  13. Depending on access to pipework and suitable spot for an accessible seacock it's not that big a plumbing job, go for DZR skin fitting and seacock unless going for composite and double stainless hoseclip all hoses.
  14. The ea pump outs are free and self service but few and far between and often out of order, they had a habit of putting them on land they didn't own and losing control of them. Many rgo boats have sea toilets or at least diverter valves for this reason and why they are still allowed on rgo.
  15. AARGGHHHH MY EYES!!!! How could you Ian?
  16. I may have to pop into Jones myself this weekend to pick up another pot of non toxic anti freeze. If I get a chance with all the other bits that need done.
  17. Being ex hire probably means the engine hasn't been sat around enough for internal corrosion to occur and as Vaughan says 3000 hours isn't much on a diesel.
  18. Just remember how ever the journey takes you never resort to using the F word, boat ownership has huge ups and downs but don't ever utter the word "finished" in the same sentence as "boat" ,we all know you will be lying through your teeth, we know santa isn't real, no one really believes in fairies, so don't even consider it. Oh yeah except Gracie.... But that's another wine induced planet.
  19. I take it they didn't use the navigation channel to starboard as you exit the lock then? I used to cut across the weir pool but if you got the wrong line it could be really shallow in places. The Chet can do similar if you don't allow for it where hardly flood exits on the ebb, it's worse when close behind a slow nervy boat as you can't use enough power to sort it.
  20. Indeed it is, looking at it the impellor itself (under the 6 bolt cover) should run anti-clockwise as you look at it and the vanes will aim down on the right side and up on the left side when re-installing, if the back of the cover plate is badly worn you can fit it the other way round to give it a fresh flat surface to run against. As long as access is good it really is a doddle of a job.
  21. It's best to know yourself and carry a spare so if you lose water flow out on the river you can check it and replace if needed on the spot, it's a quick routine job really.
  22. The seal wouldn't fit as it bigger than the hole, simples... I've used 1mm smaller seals to fit a worn shaft before.
  23. There is a text service that warns of strong stream advice (when they shut the locks) you can sign up to, the EA do it, very handy for a bit of advance warning if you are the wrong side of a lock as you can usually make a bolt for your mooring while they are still open. This is handy too. https://check-for-flooding.service.gov.uk/station/6178
