  1. What are the dimensions of the solar panels? 2x 600w sounds big for a seamaster 25 roof.
  2. Most of my 240v wiring is done with 3 core arctic cable, the issue with solid conductor cable is the lack of flex to resist fatigue from continual vibration that most boats have when running. Edit: Bu55er beaten by Mr.G again.
  3. Has nobody considered "just pulling the plug out"?
  4. There have been a few tidal surges recently so if the new bridge slows water getting out it will also slow it getting in surely. I've been through both haven and herring bridges this year at half ebb and sure there's a bigger rush under haven than herring.
  5. Any skin fitting that can let water into the hull, may be a bilge pump outlet that can syphon back once submerged or a sink drain, once the boat tips far enough they are all wrong skin fittings if open at the other end. Also engine bay air vents can be the problem if in a bad position, they are all fine at a normal attitude but when hulls are tipped to the wrong extent they are seriously comprimised. Bilge pump outlets can be fine submerged with a good goose neck up to the point the pump kicks in, then the pipe gets filled with water and the syphon can begin unless the gooseneck has a vented loop, my boat would fall foul of these issues for sure and it has taken way more angles that the broads can throw at it in regular use but one hooked on the edge up it's a different matter.
  6. It only takes the wrong skin fitting under water to start a syphon in, more likely on a hire boat than a sea capable boat but still very possible, also bobbing on the quay edge can cause damage to hull or stern gear especially on that concrete edge. Whatever happened its not good news for the owner, hope he gets something sorted.
  7. If the 240v part uses twin+earth with single core conductors it will not be good for bss, all conductors must be multi strand. Best bet is to download the guide from the bss website.
  8. Oops! I know who's that is, he did indeed live on it.
  9. The soft nature of the land around there means it will always be undercut eventually, remember we did used to be connected to france at one point. Land is not permanent, it changes all the time.
  10. A plan is only a proper plan when it's planned in a pub.
  11. I assume that is the spectacular Christmas water, the spectacular Christmas circus will be along later.
  12. I won't remember any of that, it's more likely to be: "I hope he's saved you some!" There's 2 bottles of whiskey in the coffin down there and she would prefer it to be mickey taking to the end rather than solemn. The dress code is only wear black if you normally do so, come as she would have know you so I'm wearing jeans and a help for heroes hoody (and maybe the famous grouse wooly hat I found in her sideboard) as she's never seen me in a suit and I've never owned one, until I'm in court for something serious I never plan to.
  13. A strange one today for me, scattering my Mums ashes on my late step dads grave today followed by a bit of a wake in our regular pub so lots of running around sorting a buffet but managed to get a full english in the cafe to help soak up the afternoons beer. No idea how many will turn up or what I'm meant to do or say as it's a home brew affair (I'm basically the funeral director for the day), grave is pre-prepared with the turf cut so it's a quick flip back (don't want the council grass cutters wearing or snorting my Mum) and there's a laminated pic of their wedding day blue tac'd to the headstone, got a good pic for the pub with Mum in a Christmas hat with a glass in her hand looking slightly pickled in the same pub . If anyone passes my boat in the meantime say hello for me as it seems forever since I've been there and not likely now till mid december with other weekend things in the way unless we fancy a one night visit next saturday but 180 mile round trip and another half pot of anti freeze is a lot for one night out.
  14. For most rgo cruising magnesium is the best option.
  15. Instead of re-packing the stuffing box why not consider changing for a volvo type dripless seal, the orbitrade ones asap supplied do have a vent fitting so they never need burping when launched. It depends on wether the shaft needs pulling out to fit or not on cost. I know packing is cheap and can be replaced in the water (if you are very brave and quick) but you always end up with water in the bilge.
  16. I've always believed it was the max number of people permitted on board. Your turn to beat me this time Mr.G.
  17. This one Griff? Managed to download eventually. BRAG letter to Broads Authority FINAL 1500 on 201123.pdf
  18. I'm surprised no mention of the one off extra for peto's Marsh that never dropped the following year.
  19. I just tried and got "private group" with only 2 members.
  20. But you can't possibly trust nature to do what it has always done without a decision from our glorious leader! How else will he claim credit and justify his existance?
  21. He's more likely to be that floating toolbox.
  22. Best wishes all round Griff, fingers crossed the brain is still playing properly.
  23. That's going to get a serious paddle shaking through Reedham!
  24. Ah that's where they put me boat...
