  1. I wonder if the hire boatyards are informing their customers about the "new" charges being imposed at Ranworth and Reedham? I've just looked at the online skippers manual from HW and that hasn't been amended to show the two new places where charges are now in place! (Obviously don't know if the "hard copies" on board the boats have been amended). Chris
  2. Er - think I got my sums wrong in the example I did above!! If BA want to be pedantic, then for the period that I quoted it would cost you £20!! Even more of a rip off!! Chris
  3. It's a play on the wording on the sign. MAXIMUM stay is 24 hrs but there are two charges - one for overnight and one for the daytime - biggest con going in my view!! Chris
  4. So, like I asked the other day - they are imposing TWO charges (i.e. 15 quid!) if you wish to stay for the maximum of 24 hrs!!! They refer to an "overnight" charge of £10 up until 1000 hrs and then a fiver for after that time!! Ergo - you arrive at let's say 1500 hrs and you don't want to leave until after lunch the following day - that's going to cost you £15!! What a rip off Chris
  5. Rumour has it that the 9" is to allow for expansion when subjected to adverse summer hot weather thereby negating the possibility of failure that often affects the Reedham and Somerleyton bridges Chris
  6. Well, that confirms that we WON'T be mooring at Ranworth when we poodle in there most probably on 22nd or 23rd of April! If the weather permits and we can mudweight overnight, it'll be interesting to see how many boats do moor up! Just a thought - if one was to arrive at say 2pm and moor up at the staithe and stay overnight, does that mean it'll cost 15 quid! Chris
  7. It's £7.50 if you pay at the pub before 6 p.m. (as I found out last year!)otherwise it's a tenner if they come and collect , 1000 hrs to 1600 hrs is free. Chris
  8. Just out of curiosity, when was the £2 charge for water introduced at Ranworth staithe? We topped up there last year in October and didn't pay for it We've recently booked a 13 night cruise holiday on Princess Royal, Auckland to Sydney then back to go around the South and North islands with stops at some ports along the way. Deluxe balcony suite booked with guaranteed sea view, return flight Heathrow - Honk Kong - Auckland. All in all, a very good price and in reality not that much more than if we booked a top end boat on the Broads for two weeks in the height of the season! Chris
  9. Well, 5 weeks today and we should be either just leaving HW aboard Olympic Light or moored up at Thurne Dyke and sorting/stowing our gear properly! We're staying on the northern broads this holiday and having a more leisurely time than last October when we shot down to the southern broads! Quote from Gracie on our last holiday - "Oh and by the way, next year when you run your itinerary by us I'm going to tell you to scrap it x" Gracie - the only itinerary that we have got this time is having a night or two swinging on the mudweight in different locations(weather permitting!), not paying 10 quid to moor at Ranworth, trying out a wild mooring hopefully and drinking Prosecco, wine and beer Chris and Brenda
  10. If the charge does come into effect before we come on 22nd April, this is one holiday maker who won’t be mooring at Ranworth or spending money in the pub or gift shop! If the weather conditions are right, we’ll mudweight on the broad overnight and cook our own meal and drink our own wine! Chris
  11. Ha Ha I was wondering the same thing myself. Perhaps as we used to say "Shovel Recce" or "Bag it and Pack it" Chris
  12. Noticed he used what I believe to be ex military dixie and lid to cook his chicken and breakfast in/on! Used to have a set of those on our tank in the good old days. The only downside was having to clean off all the soot/black stuff from the bottom and sides of the damn things after using them on a No 2 petrol cooker but nevertheless a very useful bit of kit. Cr hris
  13. But if you do, make sure the dog is wearing a lifejacket (doggie type!) Chris
  14. Hmmm - perhaps a job for the wife methinks Chris
  15. Just had a thought (very rare nowadays!). We're out on Royale Light 2 in September this year and it has an electrically operated mudweight. How does that stick sufficiently in the mud if it is being lowered at a constant speed or does it just "freefall" when operated and then winched back up electrically on retrieval? Chris
  16. Also when lifting the mudweight, before placing it back in it's place on the bow, make sure you've cleaned it off! I erm thought I'd cleaned it off last year when at Beccles yacht marina. On placing it back on the bow I got splattered good and proper cos I hadn't checked the bottom of the mudweight - doh!! Shan't forget again Chris
  17. Hi. We're thinking of doing the same thing when we are on the northern broads from 22nd April. Like you we have never mudweighted and are going to give it a go. I asked the question myself on here not so long back but for the life of me can't find the post (think it's an age thing lol). We are going to try and mudweight at Ranworth and/or Barton Broad providing the weather conditions are favourable. I'm sure others will be able to give advice better than me so I'll let them advise you Chris
  18. Slight drift (no pun intended) here's the link to the Thurne Dyke fees! https://www.thelionatthurne.com/breakfast-boat-mooring Room for 30 to 40 boats???? Chris
  19. Just been looking at the HW webcams. That's looking a bit choppy by the bridge! So glad I'm not out on a hire boat today Chris
  20. Ha! Good old Hermannsdenkmal!! Been there a few times! Brilliant views from up there! Chris
  21. Lol if my memory serves me correctly that's the "Junkerhaus"?? I never went in it but did marvel at the architecture! I used to have some german friends that lived in Lemgo which is why I know a bit about the town, plus I used to drive through Lemgo to go fishing on the Weser at Vlotho.
  22. 8.30 this morning and it’s still snowing!! Chris
  23. Crikey, that brings back memories of when I was stationed in Detmold in the mid 80's! Don't think the phone box was there then though! Lemgo was/is a very picturesque town. Chris
  24. Found this free app and wondered if it is just a gimmicky thing or would it prove worthwhile when mudweighting overnight on a broad like Ranworth or Barton? Chris
