  2. Sounds like the boat has never had a bss before.
  3. It's all about colour coordination, do you want to go red or blue? What colour are your curtains it could clash?
  4. Never heard of that on a stove and it sounds a bit scary to me unless it is a room sealed unit, we've had enough CO deaths on the broads already, we don't need another one. If you are re-designing the fitout don't box in any usable space as there's never enough on a boat.
  5. If it's practical I would have a drain in the petrol locker anyway. Most examiners are more into getting you passed than failing you, they will often sort something minor on the spot.
  6. There's not many places in the uk where a 999 cal won't get through, they use any available signal not just your own operator. The list is a good idea though but you still need the access code on some, that would be a bad thing for general publication.
  7. The first time I came across a boat with the hydrofoil it was sailing with a group of small dinghy's on the blackwater, as we cruised through it suddenly lifted up and left us standing, it was a bit of a surprise to say the least.
  8. Unless it's capsized you must mean a hydrofoil not aerofoil.....

As I understand it as long as the fuel tank is connected to the engine (and 'in use)it can be anywhere you like and as dangerous as you like, as soon as you disconnect it becomes stored and should be in a locker with a drain to overboard the same as gas bottles, if it has it's own locker and it has a drain hole you will be fine. Your gas locker sounds spot on.
  10. My last bss was done by a guy from st.ives (cambs.) with the boat on the broads, he charged me £10 each way for the travelling (180 mile round trip) so anything is possible if you find the right examiner. I went this way as he'd done all my previous bss/surveys.
  11. I believe short tolls are bss exempt but you will need insurance, the insurance are unlikely to ask to see a bss. I would insure it, take it to the broads (assuming you have a mooring sorted) and get a short term licence, then get a broads guy to bss it for you while there. You would be breaking no laws but your insurance would be iffy till bss done, chances are it would pay out for third party liabilty only.
  12. It all depends what sort of bird life you are having issues with, I find a good 12 bore take out most fowl pretty effectively.
  13. Make sure you get a black and white dog, the licence is cheaper.
  14. Would we not be required to fly the appropriate ensign under international law being as we are technically in a harbour? I know we don't take it too seriously in the UK but some places will fine you for a faded or tattered ensign let alone failing to fly it altogether. I would certainly never dream of flying a blue or white ensign without proper authority, flying a few wet towels and underwear off the pulpit is fine though....

  16. No it's not, it's all tidal and very much connected to the sea, especially so on the southern rivers seeing as norwich was a port in it's own right. (may still be I don't know)

  18. I quite like spiders at home, there's been a big one walking about on my living room ceiling for about a week and I don't care. On the boat though they are a bloody nuisance, as soon as you get sloping surfaces you discover spider sh*t, you never see t at home where everything is upright but add a slope and there's streaks of it every where, spiders on the boat are generally considered fishfood.
  19. Conkers do work on spider if drilled, you need to put a shoelace through the drilling to get the proper striking velocity on big spiders though.

I have an old yamaha 8hp 2 stroke outboard (8B)lurking in my shed going for spares, it's originally a longshaft converted to shortshaft for use on a dinghy and it's in bits (at least the engine is), it should be all there except the fuel pump valves as they are in my tohatsu now. It's in st.neots cambs. and no sensible offer will be refused. It has special anti theft decals on the cover that say "Don't bother dickhead, it's locked!" It's old, it's tatty, it's in bits, it does not come with a warranty! It does however come with a manual.
  22. I do have an omni directional thing on my radar arch but only because I can't be bothered to fill the hole the cable comes through, the coax dangles behind a panel somewhere.

Call the BA and tell them it's expired but booked in and they are generally fine about it, your boat is no less safe than it was the day before it ran out, the fact that it is booked in means you are more likely to have checked all the bits that have been ignored for the last 4 years so likely safer than before it ran out. I've had claims with 2 different insurance companies and neither asked to see the bss cert. (I know it's all checkable online these days)
  24. That's the best place for the tv aerial, leave the telly at home and go to the pub instead.
