  1. I'm not a big fan of bbq's, why have a perfectly good kitchen only to go out in the garden to encase raw meat in charred skin. Many years ago a couple of kiwi mates were cooking on a bbq and put some foil over one corner so they could cut the middle out of sliced bread and crack an egg into it, was very good till another friend tried it and couldn't do it, a dozen eggs later and a lot of burnt egg stench she realised the foil had been removed.....Bue didn't laugh as that would be cruel (lie!)
  2. I thought they were the same thing, good to hear of a miraculous recovery though.
  3. Been there-done that, it was in a marina though so not over 10p, shore power leads are far quicker than most boats as mine overtook me at a hell of a speed!
  4. How much did you charge per unit Griff? I recon you could add a pretty hefty standing charge as well.
  5. Copied from another forum but worth supporting if you've ever been past cromer. ---------------------------------------- Hi all If you haven't signed it already..... here is your chance! Government petition against the poor marking of Lobster pots: Link: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/193254 Please spread the word with social media and get all your family/friends to sign it! Many thanks Olly Lobster Pots and Small Craft Safety – time to change the rules! We, the undersigned, urge the Minister of State (DEFRA) to improve the way static fishing gear is marked for the safety of all small craft at sea. The current, voluntary, guidance is not adequate. We ask that DEFRA seeks views regarding enforceable regulation among other options. This petition is sponsored by the Cruising Association (CA). We believe that the current, voluntary, arrangements and guidance have not been adequate and that the number of call-outs, by the RNLI and coastguard, to small craft disabled by fouled propellers and rudders shows the significance of the problem. We hope that all stakeholders will work together, with DEFRA, to find a solution, particularly one that is cheap and practical for our fishermen.
  6. What ever the ofgem rules may be if you need electricity at the side of a river and you don't think you should pay a little extra for that convenience then just go without, I have no objection to it being a little bit more than it is at home per unit. Are ofgem rules really aimed at this kind of system, I don't think so somehow.(no I hav'nt read any of them before anyone asks and no I'm not intending to)
  7. Oh yes, callsign and mmsi allocated for both fixed and handheld dsc sets, both occupants have operators cert. all on MARS database and registered on a CG66. I like the idea that the coastgaurd know who I am, where I am, and what my boat looks like both ways up.
  8. I'll re-phrase... I tend to monitor VHF CH6 for general comms, as long as it's not used to idle chit chat it's fine, no use for hirers though unless they have suitable portable equipment and licences to operate it. Picky git!
  9. I tend to monitor VHF CH6 for general comms, as long as it's not used to idle chit chat it's fine, no use for hirers though.
  10. Another one I've had a few times is 0333 2005341, one to "michael i've been trying to contact you" and one telling me my pcn (??) has been passed to solicitors for legal proceedings, I just delete them.
  11. The speed limit is irrelevant by moored boats, you slow down according to wash, the speed over ground limits fail badly on the southern broads as do gps speedos.
  12. A guy I work with got one of those and came running to me in a panic, I just told him to delete it and don't under any circumstances open the attached file. It was a french name and email address on the one he got but I would imagine it's a hacked account anyway.
  13. That speed chart is useless on the southern broads though as the tide has much more effect.
  14. Popped in saturday pm to have a wee snoop, seem nice enough people with good intentions, had a beer but the cold stuff wasn't on so shared a pint with the mrs (not a fan of the beardy/sandals type real ale stuff). Good luck with the venture, get that pub open, and don't let the land owner screw you over.(you know his reputation)
  15. This was the system we had on our old boat. http://www.duratank.com/protection-against-water-contamination It was a tank liner made by them with the bead system and never had any bad tastes or smells and never actually died of anything, they recommend a new bead sock every five years but it just goes in down the filler with no need to remove the old beads. I'm tempted to line the tank I have now with the same system.
  16. Well my canopy survived the patio magic treatment and looks to be fine, only time will tell how much crud comes back and how quickly. We used 4:1 solution (When I say "we" I mean "she") applied with a brush over the ground.
  17. Over the head of an M6 bolt or nut usually.... Pela oil suckers are very useful to have on board for all sorts of tidy up jobs, as is the usb endoscopes that fit android phones for finding the bits you've dropped under the engines.
  18. If you see me (Snowbird - Princess 30ds) thrashing about on breydon don't bother slowing down for me, I prefer to shake things up a bit now and again to give the fuel tanks a loosen up.
  19. Probably mention of banks and fraudulent withdrawals causing it to pick it up as phishing scam, I doubt there's any actual threat from it.
  20. Do you know Roger the loose cannon then Branden? Has a raggie called rosie in the creek. The day he retired from being a vicar in my home town I was in wells decorating his boat with an inflatable sheep..... As yer do.
  21. Zodiac Bombard AX2 for sale, I inherited this dinghy with the boat. It's 2.4 metres in length has solid transom and slatted floor, it is rated for up to 4hp outboard motor. Age is unknown but the tubes and floor are in excellent condition with no signs of wear & tear or UV damage and hold air fine, the material is very flexible making for easy rolling up and stowing, it is very light to handle at around 15KG Both tubes on the main dinghy have built in hand operated pumps so can be topped up very easily but also have normal valves for use with a separate pump, a cheap airbed 12v pump blows it up in about 4 minutes and a quick pump on the built in pumps gives full pressure. It has an inflatable seat, bag and oars/rowlocks but no footpump. Packed dimensions are 900mm long and 450mm round. There are lots of piccies at http://www.orthoticlocum.co.uk/dinghy/ £150 ono. Currently in St.Neots cambs. but could deliver to norfolk broads. For general inland use this is an excellent design for stowage and weight but I found it a bit too small for 2 adults and a large unwieldy old dog doing coastal trips. Dave 07754878834
  22. They are normally announced on ch16 first with which channel for which area.
  23. Beer prices seem to go up as soon as you go north of gt.yarmouth.
  24. There's a canvas canopy cleaner available called wet'n'forget that kills off mildew and leaves a coating to stop it coming back, it has a picture of a boat on the tub so it's expensive, b&q do stuff called patio magic for cleaning concrete that has the same ingredients much cheaper, I'll tell you if it works when I look at the tattered remains of my disolved canopy next visit as we tried it last weekend, don't do it over water as it makes the fish taste funny but they are easy to pick off the surface when they float up. I've been told it works very well but I've been lied to before......
