  1. This is the best phone for on a boat... If they can't contact you they can't annoy you. Incidently have you heard about PPI payments, I can get someone to call you if you like.
  2. Can you ask google maps to put an image of a nicer car in front of your garage?
  3. No back at home, but you're on the right track....
  4. All floating level this weekend.
  5. I feel ripped off by all this battery theft, the sods never touched the knackered one on my boat so I had to carry it to the car myself, wheres the pikeys when you need them. I once left two 110ah batteries by my front door for ages thinking they'll soon disappear, not a chance ended up having to take them to the tip myself, but when I left an old boat cooker by the door for someone who wanted spares it had gone before he turned up.
  6. Where can you get a radio controlled submarine?
  7. I don't have any problems about your posts, just think as there's a section specifically for boating recipes it would make sense to post boating recipes there. I did not say I was unhappy about it, I would have thought the phrase ' Is it just me being a miserable git today? (probably) ' would have given that bit away too. It's so nice to have your throat jumped down.......
  8. Can't these constant cooking threads go in the boating recipes area, the title kind of gives it away. Is it just me being a miserable git today? (probably)
  9. Diet & exercise???? How about an easier hobby?
  10. More high winds please, I'm not at the boat this weekend and already split the ash tree I gained after doris, I could do with the final wood pile top up. I think I have next winter catered for and the winter after that, but I'm collecting for the one after now, you can't have too much firewood.
  11. The answer is simple, lots of loud rock bands, john smiths extra smooth at a pound a pint, maybe stella for £1.50 to keep the lager louts happy, pie and chips for a fiver, bar open till 3am every day. And full english breakfast from 9 till 12 every morning. Perfect!....... (I don't ask much)
  12. I heard the work folk mentioned, I know of one broadland pub where the monthly folk club drive more away than in as they are pretty awful and those that turn up with them tend to drink tap water and odd teas while taking up the table space so the whole thing costs the business money, I'm not anti folk if it's done well. The water rats have a bit of a reputation for causing problems too, best having them in for an afternoon set before they get too pi55ed as they can get fairly obnoxious by the evening. And I like live music in a pub.
  13. Good luck with it Rick, excellent news that another pub is back on the visiting list, don't go north often but definately on the places to go again.
  14. Go for the weakest token gesture you can as it's cheaper to replace your stuff than fix the door and bulkhead and if someone wants in they'll get in, a small lock will deter the opportunist but the biggest lock won't bother the determined sh*thead.
  15. I got fed up with hearing all the swearing and cursing when SWMBO is doing her bits using office 2010 so installed open office and thunderbird for email, works like a charm and most of the swearing has stopped, if it wasn't for a few bits I use that only run on windows I would go fully to linux, I used it back in the days of red hat 9 and setup an old pc to act as router/webserver/ftp server/firewall and it worked well (but took a lot of setting up), I just don't fancy trying to convince her to do the jump.
  16. One of the best skys we have seen was moored on the last downstream buoy at orford behind the ness, it was a cristal clear night and pith black other than the occaisional sweep of the lighthouse( I believe that is now disused), we had to drop the canopy and have a gawp for a while before going to bed, the dinghy trip back from the pub was interesting as even with night vision working we were within 20 metres of the boat before we could find it, it feels very desolate in a dinghy in the dark knowing the tide is ebbing fast and theres nowt between you and the sea.
  17. Patio magic seems to be the regularly recommended solution for canvas canopies, I can't say if it works or not as I have had an unopened pot of it in my lazarette for over a year and it hasn't yet managed to creep out of the bottle and apply itself yet, I have a feeling it will need help. wet'n'forget is the other version which I believe is more or less the same thing but dearer due to the inference that it could be used on a boat and as we all know that justifies a huge increase in cost every time. If you are really desperate to find if it works the pot is in the port corner beside the steering gear at the back, there is a jar and brush in there somewhere you can use but clean it out when you are finished, let me know when you have finished the job and how nice my canopy looks, if you do a good job I'll buy you an ice cream......
  18. Is this a 'bring an oar' party?? Typical bloody yorkshireman.
  19. Yup! That's one of the nicer things I get called.....
  20. A lovely sight indeed! All that firewood........
  21. When I had an outboard powered boat I had 2x 110ah batteries connected together as a single bank for both starting and domestic as the engine could always be hand started if need be (although awkward), a mariner 9.9 charged just fine with good running hours done. Small outboards don't take a lot of starting.
  22. Go for it Rick, I would certainly put it back on my visit list, not that I get on the northern rivers that often.
  23. I am lucky enough to drink in a pub where lots of tradesmen drink, if I need anything done I have an excuse to go to the pub (never needed an excuse though...) and always get a good job done at a reasonable price, in fact we had to chase up the roofer for a month just to find out what we owed him, £40 and a pint of guiness, result! Pubs can be great places to find good people as you know they are local and if they do a dodgy job all their mates will hear about it as will all the other locals so it never happens.
  24. When I got towed in from the wash by skegness lifeboat the cox of the lifeboat got given £50 and told "this is not a donation, it's to get the crew a beer when you get back", I donated £100 online when I got home, they were happy as they were out on exercises with an inspector onboard so came and helped me out instead. It was a pan pan BTW not a mayday.....
  25. People have been advised to leave gt.yarmouth and jaywick! What has that got to do with a storm surge? Thats good advice at any time!
