  1. We like the Rockland St Mary's Staithe, you just had to watch out for the moored boats in the dyke, but if Matt says some have gone this is a bonus, just keep the speed down and watch the depth gauge if you have one, the mooring next to the slipway is very shallow, but we have moored there when the staithe was full. We helped an owner a couple of seasons ago to move his boat from the other side of the slipway to the side of so he could charge his batteries up (they were dead). Once you have a line on a boat you can manoeuver them almost anywhere. Pity the pub is so far away, you would have thought they could have built in on the staithe side of the road Regards Alan
  2. Brian Ward's stock stainless tie wraps, I used them for fastening insulation wrap onto or heating ducts. Regards Alan
  3. Hi Alan, You had better add to your boat kit, gel coat cleaner or magic sponges (maybe even baby wipes) to remove all the markes made by those trainers. Regards Alan
  4. Hi Grace, I usually take the following with me, sandals (mule type) for driving, deck shoes (whilst on board) pair of black and a pair of brown shoes for walking. When we were moored at Ferry Marina, wellies were part of our boat kit. All footware stops at the door down into the boat. Regards Alan
  5. Hi Matt, not at the moment but you had best check that Grace has mananaged to get aboard, she is easy to spot with her small holdall of clothes and five trunks of shoes Roll On Sunday and we will be joining you down south, Regards Alan
  6. Looks like Beccles Yacht Station to me looking from the river towards the footbridge. Regards Alan
  7. There are some higher tides from the 18th to 23rd April, so the boatyard may be waiting until then. Regards Alan
  8. We were lucky a few years ago whilst mud weighting on the edge of South Walsham broad to see an heron teaching one of its brood how to fish, we watched it for a long time but the heron was off as soon as we moved to get the camera. Regards Alan
  9. Hi Misty, Welcome to the NBN forum from Tan & myself. Totally agree with Alan (JawsOcra)more pictures please. We love reports on boat building, rebuilds/conversions especially with loads of pictures. Regards Alan
  10. Hello David, Have a look on the Kelpies website, here is a link to the video of their construction:- http://www.thekelpies.co.uk/videos I watched the last episode of the Canals Journeys this morning (I recorded it last night) I thought it was a fitting end to this series, it reminded us of our time on these canals and the engineering used on them, Tan had forgotten the aqueduct but was enthralled by the Falkirk Wheel. The boat did fit into the space left at the side of one of the Falkirk Wheel experience boats but only just, once tided to the dock you had to remain in the boat until it completed its travel and you were instructed to leave the gondola. Regards Alan
  11. Hi Grace, Your saying below is more akin to myself, Griff (BroadsAmbition), Geoff (donnygeoff) than our Geoadie cousins. Yorkshire God's country as Griff says is flat caps, whippets and where sheep are nervous. I guess you must have missed "Auf Wiedersehen Pet" with its three main Geordie character's Dennis (Tim Healy) Neville (Kevin Whately) Oz (Jimmy Nail) phrases such as seems like a canny place, well aye man, oh aye, well yer kna what they say etc. "Aye up lad (I think that's Geordie talk) I'll be getting my binoculars out and looking for the flat capped one next time I'm there Grace" Regards Alan
  12. Lamb, pork & beef, here today and only five and the bump to eat it, too fussy by half our lot, me being the worst offender. To be honest Grace you have covered most of the reasons we love boating, also looking for kingfishers, dragonflies, go faster ducklings chasing the boat, or adults ducks laughing at us (well the chattering always sounds like laughter to me), the elegance of swans when on the water and their struggle to take off in flight. I must admit the thought of being able to sit on the boat in the open air or under the canopy watching the world go by with glass of Merlot is appealing. Regards Alan
  13. Now Grace you know you would sell your soul to get to the Broads a day earlier (note I did not say shoes). Don't worry I will be watching if not posting connections permitting.. Regards Alan
  14. Come on Matt, lets have some details of your gizmo! Enjoy your holiday. Regards Alan
  15. Tan & Alan on Ranworth Breeze
  16. Alan & Tan on Ranworth Breeze
  17. I had a call from the owner that is on Ranworth Breeze prior to our allocation, he is leaving the boat on Sunday afternoon rather than Tuesday morning, great news for us, we are now going down to the boat on Sunday, so an extra day and two nights on the boat. I will amend the calendar. Regards Alan
  18. Here you are Grace. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Another_Place Information and a few pictures. Regards Alan
  19. I like the concept but lets face it for Mc Donald's to produce anything it has to be easy. If you do it yourself you are not going to have endure their over sweetened bread. The all day breakfast on a plate so easy but great to eat. Regards Alan
  20. Hi Geoff, Before the Wicker Man very near were and still are the two camels in a corner of a field, these were always looked for on our journey down into Devon. I totally agree with the Kelpies, but have never liked the Angel of the North. Regards Alan
  21. Hello Jen & Martin, I hope you have a very busy season with hardly any time to spare. If we manage to get onto the Northern Broads this year Tan & I will pop in and see you. Regards Alan
  22. Hi Iain, I have edited my post, I must stop listening to Tan she said Canal Journeys but meant the John Sargent canal programme, muppetry or what! Regards Alan
  23. Hi Alan, Looking good and tidy too, is that down to you or Dave? Not long now, have you got more work to be done before you get the boat transported to Somerleyton or will you be working on the boat while it is on the back of the lorry. Regards Alan
  24. Hello David, Canal Journeys is on Sunday at 8.00pm or 9.00 on 4 + 1. We will be watching the programme with interest especially the Kelpies which would have been in construction when we were there two years ago, sadly at the time we were unaware of them. Regards Alan
  25. Hi Dave, When the website was working you had to download software onto your PC to view it, I think the software was called VCL, there was a download button on Richardson's site. Here is a link to our information pages that have a number of webcams available for viewing:- http://www.thenorfolkbroads.net/forum/forum/124-webcams/ Regards Alan
