  1. I retired effectively in March 2020 at 60. I hadn't planned a date other than by the time I was 60 something. Lockdown accelerated the process but made early retirement not seem real as lots of people were suddenly also at home and we couldn't go out. Following lockdown I decided that due to staff and materials shortages it would be nigh on impossible to trade effectively and offer the level of service we had always provided. After 35 years I shut the company down and paid out handsome redundancy payments. Fortunately all staff found new jobs within a couple of weeks. It took me a year to understand I didn't need to go to work again. But, It was the best decision I have made. Andy, I hope you enjoy a long retirement.
  2. With only a few more hours to go before the celebrations begin, Can I, on behalf of all the Admins, Mods, Tech team, Promotions and Events teams, wish you all a peaceful, contented and healthy Christmas and New Year. It has been a difficult couple of years, as individuals and as boaters. Some have lost loved ones and others will be facing a first Christmas without a partner, others will be spending this time in isolation. Please keep them in your thoughts. We raise a glass to you all, whatever circumstance you find yourself in and look forward to meeting on the rivers next year.
  3. Please be aware that this warning appears to be a hoax that has been circulating for over a year. Reuters, Media users have claimed criminals are going door to door handing out chemically doused masks in order to commit robbery during the new coronavirus pandemic. (here) The message, which has been shared in different countries, claims the thieves are pretending to be part of a local government initiative for distributing masks. It says that when worn the chemical masks “knock out” the victim so they can be robbed. One example of the message from a UK Facebook user has been shared 1,400 times. It reads: “WARNING A new thing circulating now. People are going door to door handing out masks. They say it’s a new initiative from local government. They ask you to please put it on to see if it fits. It’s doused with chemicals which knocks you out cold. They then rob you!! Please DO NOT accept masks from strangers. Remember friends, it’s a critical time and people are desperate, the crime rate will spike. Please be cautious & safe!!” There is no evidence that this crime has taken place in the UK or elsewhere. Online searches do not bring up any crime reports, formal police warnings or news articles warning the public of the attacks. The UK’s Greater Manchester Police told Reuters that while they could not definitively say the crime had not happened without being given a specific time, date and location, they did not have ‘any knowledge of these attacks.’ The South Wales Police likewise said they ‘had no such reports’ of them happening. The message has been repeated word for word in posts shared across in at least three different countries - the UK, South Africa and the U.S. (here) (here). This duplication is a feature of chain messages, which often lack key details or any indication of source - as here. While there is no evidence of this particular crime, the UK’s Metropolitan Police force is advising the public to be vigilant around potential scams by “criminals looking to cash in on people’s fears about coronavirus
  4. Same here, granddaughter just tested positive, starting tomorrow we had a whole host of bake days planned for them. Hasty replanning now going on.😷
  5. Looks brilliant Peter, are you taking orders yet
  6. Pauline and I had ours yesterday, first two were AZ, booster was pfizer very well organised. I had the shivers for an hour last night and now just a sore arm. Pauline was fine. Two night trip to Norfolk to check the boats, you never know what the New Year will bring.
  7. They could abandon the race result and go by the result as at the end of the previous race.😁 RB would be happy, Mercedes would want to roll back a few more races, it is a no win situation. Time to have joint champions for 2021 ?
  8. The problem is what to do if Mercedes manage to eventually over turn the Race Directors decision in a few months time. To strip Max of the title he won under the race directors ruling would be as unfair as it would be to deny Lewis the title. What a mess they have created. Who wants to offer odds on a new race director and set up next year.
  9. How many teams bring a barrister with them, apart from Mercedes.
  10. That would be the worst possible outcome. Imperfect decisions are made all the time, in all sports.
  11. It came down to the final race and then the final lap. Masi had a hard job to do in a short time window, one of the two teams would be complaining. As a Mercedes support I think Max deserved his win. Perhaps they should cut the radio link between the teams and the race Director, both team principals have behaved badly.
  12. Not much to discuss but the thread is open
  13. Would a racist country take in displaced Jews, Ugandan Asians, thousands of at risk Afghans and a whole host of others over the years ? Germany and a number of other European countries have a much older population and a desperate shortage of younger man power, they need the influx of migrants to keep the economy going. The UK is at the end of a very long route of safe countries, therefore our numbers should be a lot lower than others.
  14. I will unlock sunday at around 5pm to allow people to watch the race.
  15. I am not a big fan of Fb. I limit my friends to family and some forum contacts. My biggest complaint is fb insisting on showing me groups I might like. Our fb group is moderated to the same standards as the forum to weed out any rubbish or misinformation, many groups seem to have little or no moderation, these I delete. I do find it useful to keep in contact and see what the more distant branches of my family are up to.
  16. The link works for me, it invite you to join and then create an account or sign in to fb if you have an account.
  17. https://www.facebook.com/groups/norfolkbroadsnetwork/?ref=share_group_link
  18. Try searching the web for Norfolk broads network facebook group. The second result should take you to the group. It is a private group that you have to join. From Fb, search norfolk broads network, in full, rather than nbn.
  19. If you search norfolk broads network on facebook groups it should come up. You probably landed on the old nbn page that existed originally. I should really be capable of doing a link, but I am not
  20. Double vacuum impregnation with a decent fungicide.
  21. Max and Lewis will have to be on best behaviour with championship points at risk instead of time penalties. That will be a bigger test for Max than Lewis.
  22. I missed nothing The request remains.
  23. We live in an imperfect world, full of imperfect people, governed by imperfect laws. We will never change them on a Norfolk Broads discussion forum. Can I draw members attention to Grendel's earlier post, "can we please limit the discussion to the topic, ie Covid," More exactly, to the booster . Thanks.
