Meant to post earlier that the roadworks and lane closures on the bridge at Sutton Bridge, have restarted. I came past on Saturday afternoon and there was approx a quarter of a mile queue in each direction. Don't shoot the messenger. Don't shoot the messenger.

I ended up staying a couple nof nights in Horning at The Ferry Marina end, and on both occasions i was able to call someone without problems using O2. Also, with wifi in your cottage, if you have WhatsApp, you can just use that to make the call.

I like the idea of some sort of electronic warning, but think it wouldn't work as many boats have people standing on deck to judge the height, therefore raising the overall height of the boat. Also there's the number of dual steer boats where people are sat atop.

Yes, it was for coffee and a stretch. Pleased to report that no delays at the bridge. Both sides operating as normal. Relief!

Excellent Malcolm. It seems technology is just galloping ahead at the moment. You no more have to desire something, than it suddenly becomes reality.

Not seen anything like this before. The guy travels from Norwich to Reedham with a camera capable of taking 360 degree views as it goes. So you can use your mouse or tilt the phone to have an all around view at any moment. For example, select the video at 17 minutes, and just let the camera pan left or right as you pass the moorings at Brundall. Very clever.

The museum did mention the dockers, and how they went on strike because they could see their jobs being lost as a result of the containerisation of the ports/ships.

Multi-millions have been spent on the Albert Docks, conference halls, exhibition centre etc.

Thanks Fred. Very interesting. The accompanying photos in the museum showed how it had been hit by German bombs a number of times in the war, but was quickly repaired, such was it's importance at the time. Liverpool really surprised me. I thought it would have a mildly run-down waterfront and the Cavern. It is actually a fine port city, reflecting, and bettering the wealth and importance it held in it's past. I was there last week, and the TT races have already started (I think), so the ferries were loaded with hundreds of bikers.

Oh and the entrance to the Mersey Tunnel.

Despite living just 75 miles from Liverpool, I've never visited this fine city. Quite apart from the pop history, the city has much to keep visitors entertained, not least some fine architecture. So below are some images which might be of use to anyone considering a break there. Start with the obvious. The Beatles played the Cavern 297 times. Cilla Black tended the coffee bar. I embarked on a 50 minute "harbour cruise" The famous waterfront So much fine architecture. This reminded me of Paris Distictly continental feel This building interested me, because it reminded me of the original Scotland Yard The building at the far right is the Central Library This greets you as you enter. Fabulous Beautifully kept reading rooms On the roof, looking at the dome seen in the previous photo The Albert docks development Liverpool had an elivated railway at one time that skirted the waterfront. It became disused in the 50s (I think). Too much salt and underinvestment made it unsafe.

What a fascinating thread. Speaking as someone who has absolutely no appreciation of what's involved, I now know why quotes for installation are so high. Great advice from all those contributing.

Where are they Fred? I've checked their site and Facebook but haven't come across them. I did get an email saying they had reduced their prices for 3 nights from 3rd/4th June, but when i looked at them, none had changed as far as I could tell.

The Kings Arms is a treasure. Good food, good prices and not far from the Yacht Station.

I had a quick trawl around Hoseasons this morning, but can only find discounts (for boats) on Brooms craft. Next week (with the extra Jubilee holiday) is virtually sold out. What I have noticed is that though the school holidays have plenty of availability, unlike the last two years, the nearer you get to a start date, the more sold out it becomes. The June weeks 11th 18th and 25th look busier at this stage than you would have expected pre-Covid for instance. It may be that what with escalating living costs, people leave booking until they know for sure they are going to be able to afford it.

Are you sure it's not just this? "Please adjust the low sensitivity of G-sensor, otherwise the video file will be easily locked when your car vibrates, which will cause the SD card to fill and stop recording" - from Toguard The more the van thinks it may have been in a bump, the more it will lock that piece of footage away in a protected folder so it can't be rewritten over. Eventually, the recordable capacity dwindles to nothing. Best thing is to remove the sd card, then either reformat it or delete the "captured camera moments - they will be in two separate folders on the card. Reinsert it and see if it works.

Andrew, we always hired forward steer one level boats. Not sure if it was just preference but my wife didn't like getting on a stern moored boat with a bathing platform, due to the need to step across to the deck part at some states of the tide.

My late wife had a hip operation about six weeks before we were due to go on a Broads holiday, around 10 years ago now. As has been said, it's vital that all the exercises are carried out religiously. I remember that the six week recuperation period, where you have to be extra careful not to strain the new joint, ended the day of the holiday. She loved Yarmouth and wanted to visit. I was apprehensive as we know the rise and fall can make it a bit of an obstacle course, but she wanted to go. The river level was low so we moored up next to a ladder. She had no hesitation (or difficulty) in climbing the ladder, and getting ashore. So yes, when all things are equal, you can get back to a pretty normal level of mobility..... but don't take any risks in that first six weeks.
