  1. You`re not the only one Ian. Although we love Lightning, and have wangled two weeks for next June, early July (although i`m looking to swap the two weeks around), we`re going to hire Swallow for a week, purely and simply because we love her so much. She`s a fabulous boat for 2, and very warm with the heating on in early or late season. It also helps that she handles a dream.
  2. The simplest way to avoid incidents such as these is to hire a boat designed to go under the bridges at all (normal) states of tide?. Of course, some people might find that idea rather a terious one, but in 45 years of boating on the broads, we`ve ALWAYS hired one designed to go under all bridges, and never had a problem.
  3. Unless you`re looking for moorings with services, ie, water and leccy hook up, there are i think 3 staithes between Beccles and WRC, all being BA 24 hour moorings. One is at Worlingham (i think that`s what it`s called?) on the North bank, and North Cove on the south bank. There is another not far from North Cove, but not sure what it`s called.
  4. If that was today, i bet Clive will be turfing them off tomorrow?.
  5. I think that was me Allan. I`ve posted pictures of it on our Holiday tale of last October. I also had to untie the 240v hook up in 2ft of water, and it was still rising. We saw Paul and Lorna the night before, and spoke to him on the phone that morning. Paul said he`s never seen it that high before, their boat ib moored ver the river.
  6. I looked on the BAx website and it says you have to be registered and log in to object. I`ve looked all over it and can`t find a registration page. Am i missing something?.
  7. Great to see them promoting the Broads, better than the BA do too. Just a shame they used outdated library pictures instead of pictures of his holiday, and he and his family enjoying what the broads has to offer. Still a good article though, even if it IS in the Daily Mirror.
  8. This would be a different way to travel round the broads. Mind you, i don`t think you`d see much. http://seabreacher.com/gallery/photos/
  9. So, please tell me where exactly i mentioned the words "conspiracy theory"?. All i brought up was potential security weakesses, and where they might be found, and correct me if i`ve missed something or cannot read my own post, but i`ve not said the words "conspiracy theory". Every day in this country and around the world, there are acts of bank fraud, identity theft, and many other forms of fraud going on, and by far and away, the vast majority is internet (on-line) based, and the percentage is getting bigger every day. Is`nt it strange how in the modern age, with all the up to date state of the art security systems etc etc, internet based crime is getting bigger and bigger. And that`s FACT, not a conspiracy theory.
  10. Hi IaIn, not all hire fleets insist on you using the bridge pilot at Wroxham. I know Bridgecraft did`nt last time we hired from them, nor do Maffetts or Pacifics. I don`t know about any others, because we have`nt hired hired from many different ones in recent years. Come to think of it, i`ve never used the Wroxham bridge pilot service.
  11. I flaty refuse to do on-line, or telephone banking, because you never know who`s listening to your phone calls, and despite repeated attempts by authority to try and brainwash me into doing everything on-line, i refuse, because anything you do on a tiblet, i phone, pc or whatever computing device, someone somewhere will have all your passwords etc on some form of software. I remember a colleague at work faffing around in a panic one day, and he said somebody had hacked into his on-line banking account. I told him i won`t have anything to do with internet banking as it`s far too unsafe, and allways will be. His reply blew me away, saying "oh, it`s perfectly safe"?. Errrr, hello, Earth calling Bob, if it`s pefectly safe, how come someone has hacked into your on-line account?. Despite all the security measures, with rolling passwords, etc etc, there`s ALWAYS an electronic digital paper trail to every single transaction you make on-line, and anybody who works for the major software companies can easiuly find out your bank details. Even if you delete every single password and transaction etc etc, a good software engineer, or worse still, a competent hacker, can still retrieve your personal details. The only way to render any previous details on a redundant hard drive safe is to grind it into millons of splinters.
  12. Yep, i always drink and helm. The trouble is, many hireboats don`t have a convenient shelf for putting my mug when i`ve finished my tea
  13. For a long time now the banks have adopted the attitude, they`re not there for the customers, more like the custumers are there for the banks. All financial institutions have lost any respect for their customers, and treat them like a nessecary evil. All they`re now there for is to make money for the shareholders, and they use the public to do it. As for the closure of the Stalham banks, that will fund a few annual bonuses. Theives and robbers all of them, including the Co op bank.
  14. You look like Lee Rocker from Stray Cats. Mean haircut or what?.
  15. Where exactly is the Falgate, as when we`re next in PotterHeigham, it would be great to have a good meal, providing it does stay as a pub?.Also, how far from the riverside, and how long to walk?.
  16. I sincerely hope it does`nt get turned into a damned Weatherspoons.
  17. I`m not a great fan of Weatherspoons. The last time we went in one was the one in Wimborne which used to be the old Conservative club. It seemed souless, and had no atmosphere, and the staff were not very polite. You always seem to be ages waiting at the bar, and the food looked like it was mass produced. The last time before that was when Karen and i, along with one of the ladies from work went in to the Weatherspoons in Ferndown after work. The mixed grill i ordered was inedible, and was so dry and overcooked, it actually made my jaw ache chewing it. I`m not fussed about roughing it, or having thing very basic, or rough and ready, but this was quite the worse cooked meal i`ve ever had, and we had to wait over an hour for the dubious privilage. As a result, i told Karen i`d never go into one again, and apart from the the lunch we had in the Wimborne one (to give them a second chance) i never have, and hopefully, never will. These days, we try to use indipendant local establishments, as we find the food and service much better. That said, i must admit, the pictures of the rooms do look good, but then, publicity photos always do. As for Allans comment (Ranworth Breeze), i wish i knew where to find these cheap rooms from Premiere inns, as whenever we`ve needed to book one, and asked for one of their £29 per night rooms, we`ve always been told that particular hotel was not part of the promotion, despite the fact they`re advertising it on their sign out front.
  18. Some people have some really wild imaginations.
  19. According to Wikipedia, the lead singer, "Mike Scre" used to be a hairdresser.. Quite appropriate with hair like that.
  20. I think i`l just have to do my civic duty then and register and object.
