We Are Off Out Of It!

Vaughan

Recommended Posts

Tomorrow morning we get in the camper van and go back to France.

It has been an enormous pleasure to meet so many of you during the last few weeks, and I look forward to meeting even more next time, when we come back in the Autumn.

I don't know what the Buck in Thorpe will think of this, but hopefully we have done our best for their trade while we were here!

So you can now all say what you like about me, for the next 5 days, with complete impunity. After that it will be my turn again!

Hope you all have a good summer on the Broads!

Vaughan and Susie.

I trust that you have left an open tab behind the bar!

What can we say about you when you`re gone?.

How about, it`s time he came back, as he`s a true Broadlander, and it`s people like him (you) that SHOULD be running the Broads Authority?.

How does that sound?.

All the best to you and Susie. Safe journey home. Ruth and I will look forward to seeing you again in the autumn. Hopefully when I see your camper in the Buck car park I won't be in the middle of painting, glassing or gluing and will be able to stop and chat.

Colin and Ruth

I was just driving towards the A47 in Thorpe today when this yellow camper van came across from Sainsburys towards the direction I had come from- it may have jumped the lights then it dawned on me too late who was driving!!!!! Bon Voyage

Well here we are back "chez nous" after a few pleasant days taking it gently.

For the last couple of trips we have been using a chain of independent hotels under the franchise "Inter Hotel". They are all over France, well appointed and seem to specialise in good French food, unlike the standard menu that you get nowadays in a Campanile or an Ibis. They are usually near the main roads but a little distance off, so are more peaceful. I can well recommend them if you are travelling by car in France.

As for France, the Canal du Midi is the same thick green colour as they are running out of water after several weeks of heatwave, drought and forest fires. They may have to close the locks on the canal if it continues like this. Hard to believe, after the June that we have all suffered in England!

We have returned to a France in deep sadness after the atrocity in Nice on Thursday. Bastille Day of all days. All my neighbours are asking the same question : "What has France done wrong? France has done far more, since the 60s, for her re-patriated ex- colonials in terms of housing, benefits, jobs and health care than they would ever get in GB, let alone their own native lands. So why do they seem to hate her so much?

I suppose if someone could answer that question we would all be living in peace.

There is no reasoning in the minds of those consumed with hate and sadly it seems to be inbred into the human species.

This all to frequent type of attrocity seems to dull the mind to the lasting  human impact to friends and families of the victims.

Perhaps an annual world wide day of reflection could be started to remember all the victims of conflict worldwide with a list of notable tragic events along with the numbers of victims. I think we would all be stagged at the number of victims worldwide to these barbaric acts of terror.

That's a wonderful idea Smelly, unfortunately the people that commit these disgusting acts would rejoice in the fact that their atrocity got a mention, a smashing post just the same

Not that it will make an ounce of difference but my heart and thoughts go out to the victims and their families

Grace

p.s Could a Pesky please remove the quote box, I can't get rid of it

Hows that Grace?
