PastorsDayOff Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 I assumed you meant HMS Belfast. It’s a ship I would love to go and visit, health being the prohibiting factor, because my father actually served on her before she was decommissioned back in 1963. 1 Quote
MauriceMynah Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 I used to look out on her from Tower 42 (NatWest tower) when I worked in London. She gave me a good idea as to hoe to modify Potter Heigham Bridge. 1 Quote
Vaughan Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 On the Canal du Midi, I became good friends with a retired admiral, who was the last commander of HMS Belfast when she was still in commission. On a cruiser, the commander is the 2nd in command. As such, he took part in the last salvo of 6 inch guns to be fired in the Navy. 2 Quote
TheQ Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 Last time I saw her I was putting out a warehouse fire a few hundred feet away during the first firemans strike. There is a famous picture of the first fire crews with Belfast in the Background, as we all wore ww2 Tin hats, so it looked like a blitz photo. We also put out their fire engines as a wall fell on them....(no one injured) Quote
