EdwardCharlesMitchell
Hi everyone, Does anyone know if these light fittings are still available anywhere? Long shot as I think they are original to the 1950s. Any information or leads, very gratefully received. With thanks, Edward
grendel
we have those aboard Water Rail, so possibly 1930's, is your rubber coated wire gone hard and crumbly ?
EdwardCharlesMitchell
I need a complete rewire, I think. I'd like to keep the original light fittings, but add concealed LED strips. Both cabins need brightening up a bit.
grendel
We are doing a rewire (hopefully in April) you could of course just replace the bulbs with LED equivalents.

grendel
the good news is that there may be some out there, marthams may have some, or the yard at lodden might, failing that they do appear at boat jumbles occasionally.
EdwardCharlesMitchell
Many thanks - much appreciated. I just sourced something a little similar from Captain Watts, https://captainwatts.co.uk/teak/brass-switched-lights-102mm-12v Not exactly the same - but in a pinch ............ Appreciate your info. Just Googled your boat. What a beauty she is. Here's a random question. Is there such a thing as someone who specialises in redesigning galleys and heads? As the available space is so limited, the challenge is to source the right appliances and fittings to maximise every inch. Just a thought. Smoggy
I had the lights linked on my old boat, the one in the bog I modified with an on-off-on switch and brake/tail light bulb so it was tame for a night time visit but bright for a shower, worked well.

Smoggy
I had to change the bulb base for one with two contacts but I had one laying around but would have been easy to redrill and solder new wires in place with solder blobs for the contacts. If I did it now I would probably run a strip of leds down the middle in warm white and fill the rest with a bright white led strip. The fluorescent strip lights in my current boat have led strips inside now.
grendel
the bulbs on Water Rail have 2 contacts, one for positive one for negative, with a wire connected to each, not to the outside
LizG
Those particular ones on WR are modern! Suddenly the originals in the front cabins failed so rather than remove the old ones, new ones were put alongside the old ones but with a new circuit.....then the old ones started working again!!!
