  1. "The rest of the Southern Rivers are wide, fast flowing and reed lined so although there are a few good pubs, plenty of moorings and little boat traffic there is not a lot too see either." Almost sounds like someone is trying to keep it this way! Trevor www.normanboats.co.uk
  2. And give the "New Inn at Rockland a try. They'll be trying to impress with new Tenants, New Chef and new menus! Trevor www.normanboats.co.uk
  3. As an owner I share your grumpiness when statutory schemes cost me money but I then sit back and think at least I have a likely safe gas, electric and fuel system! I know and accept that the scheme is hardly all encompassing and the fact that I had to abide by it on the canals before coming to the Broads tempered my reaction. I do belive though that there has to be some form of basic safety regulation and hope that the present one can be improved upon. I am also thankful that we do not seem to read regular or frequent reports of accidents and injuries due to the basic systems on boats. Whether the BSC has contributed to this is a debatable matter as this thread demonstrates. Trevor www.normanboats.co.uk
  4. Anyone know if Goodchilds are open for diesel on saturdays? Thanks in advance Trevor
  5. This takes place this coming Thursday and friday. According to the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight website, there will be no Lancaster this time but a Dakota and two Spitfires. Visiting both days around 3pm in the afternoon. They take off from Coningsby then to Marham on Thursday and Norwich on Friday so are likely to fly over the southern waters at least. So keep an ear out for those Merlin engines! Trevor www.normanboats.co.uk
  6. That looks very much like a Norman 20. Great little boats and very capable. Curious as to what engine you have on the back? If you want to know anything about Normans! A wee bit of advertising! Trevor www.normanboats.co.uk
  7. Or try Irfanview, free and very simple to use. It also has a few basic editing tools. Trevor www.normanboats.co.uk
  8. Depends entirely on how much you have to spend! Seamasters are being manufactured by Viking and there is the Viking range itself. Also Shetland make the 27. As for go anywhere, I suspect that whatever you buy will be at the mercy of the tides in relation to Potter bridge. I think Dolphin may also still be making boats. Silverline Marine at Brundall are building "Silver Melody", a 27, which is a very traditional rear cockpit cruiser. Trevor http://www.normanboats.co.uk
  9. Great to see that you got under the bridge as well. While at Horsey did you sample the "Nelsons Head"? Curiously awaiting the forst views of this under its new hosts? Not that I've any great hopes of "Glenmore" geting under sadly! Trevor www.normanboats.co.uk
  10. And Royals seem to treat "Royall Oak" as their flagship now. When they have a few days out on the water they often use her. Trevor www.normanboats.co.uk
  11. I'm surprised that this has not been mentioned here before. If it has I missed it and the search engine can't find it! Whilst seeking shiney things in Brian Ward's shop at Brundall I noticed on the counter a book on display. It rang some faint bells as I think I had seen it mentioned in Anglia Afloat. "A Broad Experience" is a diary form account of Robin Godber's tenure of Alexander Cruisers at Brundall. For anyone that has any interest at all in hireboats or just the Broads its one of those books that you just want to read and read then read again. Have you got the idea? Its amazingly readable to say its in a diary form. Trevor www.normanboats.co.uk
  12. Wow, a good few fenders on "Evening Star"!! Trevor www.normanboats.co.uk
  13. Did you try Martham's "Boat graveyard"? Must be worth a look. Trevor www.normanboats.co.uk
  14. I'm no expert and may get shot down here but it seems we have gone full circle now looking for gasoil. I always thought this was rather "ropey red diesel" and it was often suspected that some yards and outlets actually sold you this instead of true red diesel. I also think gasoil and heating oil are the same thing? Trevor www.normanboats.co.uk
  15. There used to be a list like this in the Hoseasons brown booklet they sent out with bookings many moons ago. Some of the things "essential" were quite amusing I seem to recall. Has anyone still got a copy? Trevor www.normanboats.co.uk
  16. Hear Hear! And its a tad better than the usual no threads at all! Trevor www.normanboats.co.uk
  17. What an excellent and absorbing set of photo's! Thanks for posting that link! Trevor www.normanboats.co.uk
  18. Not wishing to start an arguement at all, but, while its so quiet on here, I enjoy trying to puzzle out Rammys missives and always smile! There's absolutely no harm in it! Trevor www.normanboats.co.uk
  19. If you tell Phil at Seals+ that Trevor from the Norman site sent you there MAY be a bit of a discount! Trevor www.normanboats.co.uk
  20. Totally depends on the eventually bare surfaces that meet and, of course, the integrity of the hatch itself. The rubber seals are readily available in many many different forms from Seals+Direct and if you email them they will send you samples. These are not difficult to use and achieve good water tight results. http://www.sealsdirect.co.uk/bbCMS/bbCMSrenderPage.asp Trevor www.normanboats.co.uk
  21. Unfortunately the canopy on "Glenmore" is not at its best shall we say! Some might even say its knackered. However, I need to make it last a wee while at least while fiscal recovery is attempted. The main problem is that it appears to have shrunk and is difficult to set up. I can cope with that for now. Its a canvas canopy covered on the outside by some form of plastic or vinyl. This is cracked and split and leaks. What is there I could "paint" it with? Needs to remain flexible when dry. Gary, at Coverit, always said use dope on vinyl canopy seams but I don't fancy this stuff for an all over coating. Over to the experts plaes! Trevor www.normanboats.co.uk
  22. The RSPB offer great advice on this and bird watcing generally.Have a peek at this link for binocular advice. http://www.rspb.org.uk/advice/watchingb ... index.aspx Trevor http://www.normanboats.co.uk
  23. Not as daft as it appears! I suspect I need some form of remote fitting using hose. Trevor http://www.normanboats.co.uk
