  1. Blame Brexit, his assets were frozen!

  3. He was a product of that time, some of his values have certainly failed the test of time. Davies famously recommended administering a dose of dust-shot upon local youths who's antics he disapproved of. Wentworth Day, on the other hand, recommended hanging in one particular instance.
  4. I often see him walking well outside the BA's executive area, he live near one of my daughter's. Does this mean that my daughter now lives within the BNP?
  5. You could well be right! Well spotted.
  6. Having read the book, and several others by that writer, I'm not convinced that that is actually what he is saying but there we go. However, I do agree with the comparison with Wainwright, one that can also apply to G Christopher Davies, writer of Broads books. In Mr Wentworth-Day's case he is not widely admired by many Broadland old timers. Apparently the bloke was reputed to a bit of a bull-s****** and in today's terminology something of a troll. Nevertheless I enjoy his books which i do return to now and again. He writes of a time when my father was an active Broadlander and he mentions a number of characters that I either knew or knew off. He was perhaps a bit of a journalist, digging for a story which might then be embellished. My father met him on several occasions, always spoke well of him, but I never did although I rather think that I would have liked him. Perhaps that is because we seemingly share the same opinion of local bureaucracy. In my opinion he certainly wrote well of the Southern Rivers and a time when I was a mere tiddler.

  8. Don't think that it is a Broads boat although there were one or two similar 'cathedral' hulls about. Suspect that the picture is down on the Thames.
  9. Same thought crossed my mind! Mind you they are not all bad. I do have great faith in one particular individual who shall remain nameless. I also note Mr Wentworth-Day's comments regarding bureaucracy, how apt.
  10. Written by J Wentworth-Day, paragraphs 3 & 4 are especially worth noting.
  11. Tasty old timer here, and she's for sale! http://www.classicyachtbrokerage.co.uk/product/new-listing-48ft-classic-broads-cruiser-1937-ideal-liveaboard-lying-great-ouse/?fbclid=IwAR1_0fq_JjcuPhdp1KpmKQfee2xAZ3prBhGj90q-RICWYqJayI7_3do4o78
  12. As a simple, aged hippy, I wouldn't know about such places! I'd rather the boom of a pair of randy bitterns than I would the boom from a bank of base speakers.
  13. 9am, blast bor, I'm underway before then but thanks, on behalf of the sloths amongst us, for that snippet of useful information.
  14. The idea of an information/education centre was that it could add to the attraction of Reedham. I'm not advocating a mega vanity project, a temple to the non existent, but it would see a practical use of a large boat shed. The Southern Rivers have a lot going for it, not least its history. The Lowestoft to Norwich navigatiion, the Wherry builders, the Roman occupation, the Cathedral builders, the breweries, the agriculture (sugar beet for example), the nature reserves, Breydon Water and more. Reedham is central to all that, what better place is there on the mighty Yare? Heritage, history, culture, conservation, the best angling on the Broads, best pubs on the Broads, all waiting to be celebrated.
  15. Good luck, Polly. We had her for one of my daughter's wedding, brilliant. Definitely the way to travel!
  16. Used to be able to get a decent breakfast in Reedham, I do miss that but it is still the best daytime stop-off on the Yare for me.
  17. Can we please, please go back to 'proper' measurements!
  18. Reedham is surrounded by nature reserves, not far from either Yarmouth or Norwich, has a brewery & Petitts, plus all those pubs. By boat it is near the Roman remains at Burgh Castle. It also has an excellent wall for sitting on and watching the world go by. Wroxham or Reedham? Reedham every time for me! It may not be the holiday resort that it was but for a rural, riverside village it's a lovely village. It lacks the shops and crowds of Wroxham, it has riverside car parking, brilliant!
  19. A BA interpretation/information centre? I kid you not but such a facility would have value, socially and educationally and Reedham does have history and is relatively central for school visits etc.
  20. I rather like the look of that. Wouldn't want to be hit by one though!
  21. No problems on the day but the day after, arghhh, I was as stiff as hell first thing. I do have mobility problems and what is normally less than pliable first thing was also downright painful. This morning it was back to normal, indeed better than usual! Lynn, my wife, just felt sluggish but like me, was back to normal this morning. Lady across the road told me that she had a back ground headache for two days whilst her husband, like me. was uncomfortably stiff for 24hrs. Is it worth it? Of course it is! Spot of discomfort for a day or two, no probs!
