  1. Hi, Vernon, good to have met you. Take care, Peter
  2. I used Danish oil on my Drascombe, very easy to use, applied 16 coats in no time! Looked great for three years, got rubbed down annually and recoated, thought that I had found the answer but then it all went sour. For no apparent reason whatsoever the weather suddenly got under it and it started to lift in places and look awful. It was the son of unmarried parents to get off, never again! Back to varnish!
  3. Just a sheer coincidence then that within days/hours of him going Lana was back. What with the peer review that was rather convenient. By the way, I went over my allocated time by over a year and it would have been more if I hadn't resigned on a principle.
  4. No date but it is a Batchelder (1849 - 1932) and he did have a good eye for detail and an understanding of boats.
  5. I'd be tempted to slap on a couple of coats of epoxy resin
  6. Don't worry about the pounds but if you are up this way then great, you'll be welcome. I'll pm you my phone number & postcode. Happy to meet you at your boat/pub, no probs.
  7. I wonder if this is Albion? The masthead colours are hers, I think. Interestingly her peak has been slackened so I wonder if the skipper is not getting ready to round up into the wind as he manouvres between the mudbanks as he approaches Cobham having just crossed Breydon.
  8. I've got several spare, am based on Oulton Broad although will be up North in the Autumn when the hoards have departed.
  9. If it's a teak wheel then I'd go with John K on this one.
  10. Maybe not housing but some form of second home, anything that doesn't cost the earth to build but demands a high price. We are talking vulture capitalists!
  11. But surely Brooms ceased to be Brooms when Martin Boom sold up? Branding just for marketing purposes!
  12. Valid point, bit of a gamble for those leaving I'm afraid. Not a good situation to be in.
  13. Whilst other yards might be doing well I rather suspect that the owners don't actually want to make a profit thus they can justify closing the yard to the planners. Exactly what happened at Pegasus, Oulton Broad.
  14. http://www.broads.org.uk/wiki/index.php5?title=Style_Details&style=ChII I remember her, gorgeous boat! Excellent pedigree.
  15. Witness the demise of boatbuilding at Oulton Broad!
  16. Paul, let me put it this way, I don't think that you are wrong.
  17. I would look to do as Waveney River Centre has done at Burgh St Peters and Tingdene are doing at Oulton Broad, abundant holiday homes.
  18. Being realistic if I worked for Brooms and I knew that my job was drying up then I would look to jump ship ASAP, especially if an especially attractive job came my way! I certainly wouldn't have any loyalty towards Brooms, number one has to take priority. For their customer's sakes I hope that they can honour their orders before their good staff move on.
  19. Paul, left click on this: http://www.broads-authority.gov.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0004/1064506/Broads-Authority-report-12.12.17.pdf
  20. My feeling is that Marsh is spot on with this one, all very sad but almost certainly very true.
  21. I'm quite sure that it is. In fact I'm cautiously optimistic. The Peer Review, although a bit wishy-washy in its wording, is clearly having an effect. Bringing in three extra, elected members onto the planning committee is an important step and hopefully more than just lip service.
  22. Q, I'm not sure that that will be seen as a major problem. I don't doubt that the new owners will be looking to cut jobs as well as the inevitable asset stripping. I note that the construction of modular units, in other words 'pre-fabs', is being considered, presumably to save on labour losts.
  23. Thank you, Vaughan, good to know that I am not a lone voice. Marsh, has it escaped your notice that the governance of the Authority has been criticised by the members of the recent Peer Review? Did it also escape your notice that the CEO of the Campaign for National Parks has confirmed that the Broads is NOT legally a national park? Perhaps you failed to notice that Lana Hampsall has been reinstated to the planning committee whilst the chairman behind her sacking has himself 'resigned' and indeed two additional, elected members have become members of the planning committee? No opinions, just relevant and recent facts.
  24. If there was a risk of silting up Gt Yarmouth Harbour then I suspect the Authorities there would be actively objecting by now.
  25. John K, now't wrong with an alternative opinion!
