  1. Iain, you might find these links useful: https://archive.org/details/gaelicenglishdic00mace http://www.norfolkdialect.com/glossary.htm
  2. Or, to put it another way, English 'spook prop-er'. Narfolk or Nor-fick, or even Sah-fick?
  3. This looks to be one of the small North Rivers wherries. Interestingly she is having her mast used as a crane to lift what looks to be one of the lock gates at Coltishall. Not the best quality original but I hope some of you find it interesting.
  4. She hully no thas larst wun in wot pay, sharp yung mawther!
  5. Speed, it's just got to be true, it's on the 'telly'!
  6. I often wonder if East Enders is true to the life of Londoners, all that argument and yelling at each other. Perhaps they should all chill & take a L-O-N-G Broads holiday!
  7. I always thought it was us husbands who suffered from poor hearing
  8. Sorry, Bob, can't support John B on this one!
  9. Paulyana & co certainly come over as being wholly professional boat transporters.
  10. Andrew, I have relented to keeping a stick both in the car and on-board. Those 'granddad' sticks being ideal as boathooks and an extended arm whilst afloat thus overcoming any loss of pride that they might incur!
  11. Ohhh, I so know the problem with balance, sometimes having to crawl ashore on my knees, cause for much amusement by callous onlookers and questions from curious children such as 'what's that funny man doing?' However, where there is a will there is a way, so there!
  12. I have seen boats that have been seriously injured by inexperienced operators using hi abs without spreaders to prevent the boat being nipped. Shifting boats needs an experienced, suitably equipped contractor, in my honest and sincere opinion.
  13. We are soon to loose at least one more quality boatyard and probably a few of a lesser standard, we are loosing our dustbins, moorings are on the decline, tolls & mooring costs are rising, WI-FI cold-spots have become famous and now we are to loose eighteen DAB radio stations: http://www.edp24.co.uk/news/digital_radio_listeners_in_east_anglia_miss_out_on_18_dab_stations_1_4506913
  14. Perhaps it is good to make light of the inevitable decline that is later life, but there is a tough reality: A Lament Of The Aging © Richard Kalfus More By Richard Kalfus Published on October 9, 2015 I am old, So I've been told By magazines and TV commercials Portraying perfect complexions, Perfect hair, no bald men there. Perfect sculpted bodies, Ready to jog To save the world In an Alzheimer's benefit run. Am I envious? You bet I am! I was naked So many years ago Standing before the army doctor Who wrote, without a word: "The 19-year-old is fit to serve." A quick glance in the mirror now To register The wrinkled, blotchy face, Protruding stomach, Breasts I never had, The bald head of Mr. Clean, Alas, without the muscles Of television fame. I look around At the men and woman of my age In the community pool And am comforted In a grotesque way That I am one of many; I am not alone.
  15. Shame, now't wrong with a spot of eye-candy!
  16. I have to agree with 'Maurice on' this one, wise old bird that he is. When folk are out on the water they are on a public navigation so surely have no right of privacy as such so where is the problem? Be a different matter if Craig was creeping through the undergrowth taking intrusive, intimate pictures, heaven forbid! Actually, now there's a thought, where is my extreme telephoto lens? New section for NBN maybe?
  17. Now, I do know this bloke's music, a real loss, in my honest opinion. http://blogs.post-gazette.com/arts-entertainment/pop-noise/46490-rip-blues-guitar-great-lonnie-mack
  18. Any sailing boat is more than welcome on the Broads, why not bring your new boat up here?
  19. Anywhere under a big Broads sky suits me but both Oulton Broad and Geldeston come pretty high on my list.
  20. No disrespect intended but I had to do a spot of googling to see who 'Prince' was! http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/prince-died-singer-dead-dies-57-paisley-park-minnesota-medical-emergency-after-flu-discharge-a6995076.html My daughter tells me that he wrote 'Purple Rain', now I do know that song, Apparently he was something of a music writer. Also that he was a Jehovah's Witness & never went to the doctors, perhaps he should have done.
  21. We spend the first twenty years of our lives growing up and the last twenty growing down. Frightening!
  22. A nice reminder, a Cantley One Design, indeed the one owned by Robin himself. Fairly certain that Jeckells have a few copies at Oulton Broad.
  23. I rather suspect that potential buyers will already have put in their offers for the boats. Either loyal hirers or one of the big yards. I do know that some of the smaller, quality yards of the past maintained a list of prospective new owners. Hampton Boats, for example, always had a healthy waiting list, such was his reputation.

  25. I really do feel for Andy. We have recently lost my mum-in-law to dementia after a three year struggle. My wife & I are both retired otherwise I honestly don't know how we would have coped. Any major illness can have a profound impact on the surrounding family. To have a hire yard on top of those problems, well, Andy deserves a medal.
