  1. Regretfully, Shirley, as nice as the Commodore is it has had a number of major make-overs during its life and any trace of it's history has long since disappeared. Good food, good ale, irrelevant pictures! Have you traced his gravestone yet?
  2. Problems for the 'ladies' of Gt Yarmouth or Thurrock then?
  3. Four of you . . . . . . . . . . . . !
  4. Gracie, durrrrrrrr! Look at the toilet signs, again! Suspect that patrons of a nudist camp would have problems too! Does that help?
  5. Wonder what Breydon is like? Could be fun, fun, fun!
  6. If a Sottish 'Ned' is the same as an English 'Chav' then having her pyjamas on is a distinct improvement over her more usual QD onesie.
  7. No! This very issue was raised by a local MP and he was assured by DEFRA that it was simply a case of accountancy, the money has to come from somewhere and the NP grants were seen as a convenient source.
  8. And why wouldn't anyone wish to stay at Oulton Broad for three nights? Blinking heck, I've been here for most of 70 years and several generations before that!
  9. Strow, you just don't know when to stop, do you! Just curious though, who is credited with writing 'with "an equivalent status to that of a National Park by its own specific legislation"......? If you write 'the BA' then I'll simply comment that they would say that, wouldn't they?!!
  10. Precisely and exactly, just as it is NOT legally a national park, an incontestable fact of history and parliamentary decision. Agreed, end of?
  11. So the Chase's producer believes a press release issued by the Broads Authority. Rory Stewart actually wrote that he is comfortable with the Authority, rather than DEFRA, deciding for itself whether to 'brand' the Broads as a National Park. I am not aware that he has actually said he agrees with that decision.

Although I never much liked the man, often met him on Oulton Broad, he is a damned good angler and one who's opinion deserves respect. As one who now suffers from arthritis I can only but agree with one of his stated reasons for going to Thailand, that being that the warmth & weather out there is much kinder to arthritic joints.

    Fishing

No mate, always from a boat, I don't even leave footprints! Don't think that you can seriously fish the Broads without a boat.

    Fishing

Got to say that for the last five months I have had some excellent fishing on the Broads. Why give them a rest when it is lawful, and productive, to fish for them?

Personally I think all 'true' river anglers should support John Wilson and the river close season. If people want to fish in the close season then they can fish for trout or carp on lakes and mud puddles.
  16. One oft forgotten issue with big & even bigger cars is parking. Surely finding a space can be a nightmare! We've been Punto people for years and the slight increase in size to a Dacia has been problem enough without up-sizing to an agricultural sized beast!
  17. Wellie socks from Lathams are cheap enough and look good too!
  18. Re high cills, we have a Dacia Sandero with which we are over the moon, excellent, logical motor. However it does have a relatively high cill. Like Brian I now have moderate mobility problems but I find that if I sit backwards rather than side-wards onto the seat, and do so with a bit of bounce, I gain a lift to my legs and can time a turn so my feet easily lift over the cill. Hard to explain but basically a change of technique has solved my problem.
  19. Brian, perhaps a kilt would be the answer?
  20. Obviously I live a sheltered life! That aside, this is Gt Britain.
  21. http://www.edp24.co.uk/news/enjoy_best_of_easter_weather_today_as_severe_warning_for_windy_weather_tomorrow_is_issued_1_4471508 At the moment the weather is just perfect!
  22. Andy, fair comment, but some yards are better than others & reserve the right to choose who might repair my boat. Some yards do not 'do' wooden boats any longer, in any case I would most definitely wish to choose. I'm sure that I am not alone in being out on the water most days of the season, I do see which yards maintain their fleet well & those who obviously don't. October is the best time of the year to pass judgement on that one, some boats look almost as spi*k and span as they did back in April, others very clearly showing the scars of a summer's hard work. Some yards care more than others, I would prefer to avoid those that don't, even if they are capable of top class repairs. As for valuation, a boat that has been repaired doesn't normally command as high a price as a similar one that hasn't been damaged, fact of life. Poppy, as usual, is bang on the money with this one. Regarding the use of the word S-P-I-C-K, why on earth should the super sensitive auto censor take exception to that? Presumably another good English word hijacked by some US minority group?
  23. Perhaps it could be argued that HW & others are doing what they can to avoid involving insurance companies. Suspect that the 'damage waiver' is quite an earner whilst the inevitable rise in insurance policies if everyone took that route would surely hit profits.hard.
  24. Yes, yes, yes, 100% in agreement! That damned damage waiver policy has a lot to answer for, in my honest opinion.
  25. Timbo, this is a drum that I have banged long and hard for several years now. Boat owners should insist that their insurance companies deals with any incident. In my honest opinion it will only be when insurance companies are involved that the hire yards will wake up to reality, it's an issue that has been skirted for far too long in my opinion. We have to be insured, it's the law, it's what insurance companies are there for so why don't we use them? There is no logical reason not to use the insurance companies, it what we have to pay for.
