  1. Glad that the dog is safe, most of us Brits are dog crazy! So far you have been really lucky with the weather. Tobacco prices, arghhhhh! Booze isn't much better. Our jokes tend to be cheap though! Really hope that you are enjoying yourselves.
  2. Coincidentally, Shirley, my father sponsored the next recorded sheep roast, winter of 1964 I think it was. Re that photo of 1891 it might be worthwhile asking Ivan Bunn at the record office if he knows who is in the picture or does he know someone who might. Not much that Ivan doesn't know about Oulton Broad, an amazing source of information and a thoroughly decent bloke, can't believe that he won't help if he can. Another option would be to ask the local newspaper, the Lowestoft Journal, to publish the picture and ask if any of the readers knows or has information, the editor likes that sort of thing.
  3. Will then have to find a matching gold plated mudweight & rhond anchors, I kid you not!.

  5. A walk around any marina will show that it is an international malady.
  6. The elephant saga really puts an alternative meaning to 'pass the hat'. I hope that the elephant survived the ordeal without to much discomfort. http://packpaddle.com/2014/tilley-hat-eaten-elephant-3-times/
  7. Espeically if it was unwashed!
  8. If the wherries were plugging the tide then just maybe the incoming flow pushed her off the windward bank. Been in that position myself, nail biting stuff, will I nudge the putty, argggggh, lee oh! Lighten ship, crew over the side!
  9. Rather than sycamore I always thought Norfolk family trees were of a somewhat straighter species !
  10. Just found this rather nice, evocative wherry on the Ant post-card:
  11. Thought for the day, six NBN hats for the price of one Tilley Hat, no contest!
  12. Patio/brick cleaner does the job well too!
  13. Does this mean that road signs will be in both African & Indian in order to attract Tilley Hat eating elephants to the Broads?
  14. Are Tilley's really a boat hat? No gold braid, no skull & crossed bones, surely really a 'land-lubber', even a tree-hugger hat, or have I got it all wrong?
  15. Just don't get this Tilly hat thing, for a kick off you can't knock all hell out of them! Far too smart for my taste!
  16. Perhaps I wouldn't mind so much 'donating' over and above my tolls if I were 100% certain that my donation was being used for the purpose of maintaining the mooring. In the meantime many private providers charge a tenner a night and folk willingly pay.
  17. Not doctored by me it wasn't. I just put it down to an honest map maker.
  18. Why not? What's good for the Chinese has to be good for the Dutch and those from America too, surely?
  19. The Broads now has good coverage? http://www.eveningnews24.co.uk/news/technology/broads_internet_not_spot_communities_in_for_fast_broadband_after_transmitter_installed_at_sugar_factory_1_4458059
  20. Following the revelation that road and information signs are to be in Mandarin (Chinese) will they now also be in Dutch? http://www.edp24.co.uk/business/tourism/successful_draw_to_bring_dutch_tourists_to_east_anglia_part_of_drive_to_boost_region_s_profile_overseas_1_4455746
  21. The donations, or the posts, or both? Who would do such a dastardly thing? Can't trust anyone nowadays! Stuart, seriously for a moment, has one or more of the posts been nicked already?
  22. Haven't seen the one at Somerleyton, is it near to the river bank? I can see someone 'mooring' to it if it is, and then driving off, forgetting to cast off!! I wonder how much will go to mooring maintenance and how much to overheads? I shouldn't feel the need to ask that question but, hey ho, we are talking Broads Authority here! Mind you, I doubt that the income will be that great. Wonder what the consultation to find out just how many have actually donated cost?
