  1. Have often been up North, long after the rangers have gone home for tea, and watched Broads Beat being incredibly helpful in advising folk who were obviously desperate to find a mooring.
  2. Face visors, very good they are too, £1.99 at Home Bargains. Far more comfortable than face masks.
  3. I had a clencher built rowing boat that had one more plank in one side than the other. I'd had her many years before I realised that! There is also a BOD sailing boat that has one bilge with more than three inches in it than the other. This only came to light when a mold for a GRP BOD was produced and then measured to see if confirmed to the class rules. That had gone unnoticed for decades! There are quite a few Broads sailing boats that sail better on one tack than the other!

  5. Tom has acknowledged my query, (thanks, Tom). There are probable legalities involved so we must't expect an instantaneous and definitive answer just yet but it has gone to the very top for consideration.
  6. I have asked Broadland Tom (BA) for the Authority's opinion and advice on this one. Will keep you all posted,
  7. Quite probably, I have a history of Berney tucked away somewhere, I shall have to have a search. I think that the classic 'no easy answer' applies here!
  8. Delving a bit deeper it appears that Berney Staithe served the parish and community of Berney thus I think it fair to suggest that the staithe is quite probably public rather than private. One for the BA's legal beagle me thinks.
  9. If I believe Wikipedia then I now understand that the pub was built beside the 'staithe' that served the local community. I once owned Burgh Staithe and as my solicitor put it, I could neither charge for mooring at that point nor could I refuse people the right to moor. Perhaps removing the mooring posts could be regarded as hindering folk's rights to moor against the staithe. Possibly a point worth taking up with the Authority. I think that I shall!
  10. It would be interesting to know for sure that Mr Horrocks, rather than the EA, actually owns the shoreline at that point. There is an instance in St Olaves where the land has been built up on the river bed thus the land in question belongs to the Crown.

  12. The old boy is from Berkshire, hardly common, not like us simple Angles.
  13. Is that usual practice? Seems to be fore-deck about transom to me!
  14. Rhond anchors are wondrous things! Just exercising my right to wait for the tide or the contrary weather to subside
  15. Oh no, the death knell to the discussion!!
  16. We both might lose a few primary wing feathers come next spring!
  17. When similar topics are discussed on alternative platforms then surely there should not be a problem with cross referencing. As Vaughan has mentioned, heard along the rhond.
  18. Won't be either you nor I, we're absolute angels!
  19. I often refer to EDP24 and subsequently put my take on it. Is that a crime? ECIPA, I'm afraid that your criticism of Ian is unfortunate. It's been a good debate up to that point. I'm not happy in criticising you, perhaps we shouldn't do it.
  20. Alan, wherever you go on the internet you will need a thick skin! I would personally miss your valued input.
  21. I note that, unsurprisingly, the lot did not sell. The auctioneers suggest that if anyone is interested then they should contact them. I never did access the legal pack, that could have been a can of worms!
  22. Which in turn is part of its attraction. The railway runs past, the rain even stops if you want it to, has ideal moorings for the big boats from Brundal, many of whom would like somewhere to go. After all there is no room for them at the Waveney and Geldeston is inaccessible. B&B has to be the key at Berney, captive customers they would be too! The pub could easily become a must visit destination, with a little imagination & the right personalities, perhaps even an in-house river bus operating from Gt Yarmouth & St Olaves.
  23. All of which was repeatedly said to me when I took on the Waveney Inn at Burgh St Peter, nearly fifty years ago. My biggest regret was in working with people that failed to support my vision, and the fact that several of them died leaving me in the lurch! The point is though that we did throw money at it, did employ suitable professionals, did make it work, made it attractive to other investors who in turn allowed myself and others to make a very nice return on our investment, which was the main reason my fellow investors wanted out. Pub of the Year for every year that I was there, a pub that was regarded as being in the back of beyond. That aside, the place was a dump when we took it on, look at it now. If the job is done well, and properly, then I have no doubt that Berney could succeed.
  24. Which takes me back to my point that the application was done on the cheap. To that I would add an apparent and sad lack of professionalism by the applicant.
