I was also very fortunate. We had two weeks every year between Studland and Swanage and another two weeks either at Menton or Diano Marina. By car, of course in the 50s. Except sometimes we flew the car on the Bristol Frieghter services from Lydd to Le Touquet. On a poignant note I can just remember crosses by the side of the road near Arras. Buried near where they fell before being taken to the War Cemeteries. I must have been about four, so it made an impression.

The Corsican pines still run along the beach from West Wells to Holkham and beyond. Are you sure it was not down Lady Anne Drive that you used to go? The plantation is wider there. If you look on a 1:25000 os map the pine woods are clearly shown.

And certain individuals who are fellow residents of North Norfolk are not beyond dropping the odd bin of grass cuttings in! Seen it at Stalham Staithe and Barton Turf. Hirers don't cut grass on holiday neither do private owners if sailing.

It was a joke! And frankly the hire companies should be paying to dispose of commercial waste generated by their clientelle. In the same way a hotel, a caravan site, a guest house, a restaurant and lord knows what else in the holiday business. They got their tolls reduced use that money.

It is a very sensible and simple solution Robin. BUT: £5 on a weeks hire! It will kill the holiday trade stone dead! 4000 souls will be out of a job and the region will be £10 Billion the poorer. Or so we will be led to believe.

Or a stolen car! Or the like.

For the first time in four or five years we have lots of hedgehog poo about the garden, so they are there but have not seen them. We are out on a limb and see from our raised position Fallow, Roe and occasionally Red. Unfortunately a lot of Muncjac as well, who have had all our Tulips and Bluebells plus I suspect a lot else besides this year. Rabbits are also extremely plentiful this year, no "Mixi" about and are in and out on lightening raids before I can get my gun.

Here in North Norfolk it has been generally a cold Spring. Which will delay the activity of Amphibious creatures but there has been plenty of spawn in the sheltered ponds.

There are very few that will have a "go" at toads. They secrete a foul taste from the skin on their backs.

We liked it, great city centre location and the rooms were first class. I would not call the food "fine cuisine" but it was very good. However we do tend to have only a main course as we are not huge portion people. Check car parking with them for you dates it can be a bit of a problem if there are conferences. Not too much if you get back say late afternoon but a problem if you eat elsewhere and get back after eight.

Forgot to say Lincolnshire is a wonderful county and Lincoln a very interesting city. Hell of a climb to the castle and Cathedral for me now though. Parking can be a bit of a problem but The Hilton at Lincoln is super! Great rooftop restaurant overlooking Brayford Pool and it's Marina. Great city break location.

I used to stay at the Petswood 30 years ago. We used to go to hand over three Austin Rover cars as ground support for the BBMF at Conningsby for their show season. Very happy memories of the dinners and speakers. Does it still have that piece of pine tree over the bar that returned stuck in the fusilage of a Polish aircrews plane? They went in that low!

A boat with a mast makes a much better reflection in the water in my opinion.

I do a similar walk along Fleet Dyke, turn right along the Bure to the pumping station then turn right onto the track back to Tiled Cottage and back to Fleet lane and the Boat Yard. But the track from the pump to Tiled Cottage is not a public footpath. I have pass the land owner tending his herd and he does not seem to bother.

I have just checked my OS 1:25000 Norfolk Broads on Viewranger and it is shown as a track not a public footpath.

There is a bus route all the way along the north coast from Cromer to Hunstanton. It is called the Coast Hopper Service. Cromer is easily reached by train from Wroxham as is Sheringham. Sheringham then has it's heritage steam trains on thr Poppy Line that run to Holt, which is also worth a visit. The bus is a really good way to enjoy the coast road as you are so high and can sit back and enjoy the view.

I think if you are not local then once in a while a houseboat is a good bet. There is a lot more to Norfolk than the Broads. Using the car will open up the delights of the North Coast. Cromer and Sheringham have much interest but the wilds of the Seamarsh Coast, Cley and Salthouse reserves, Blakeney, Morston, Wells, Holkheim, Burnham Overy and Brancaster Staithes. Will truly inspire, trust me. You will not be disappointed.

Read Dame Daphne du Maurier, Lady Browning DBE. The BBC was a very poor interpretation of the true written word. Jamaica Inn and Indian Queens are the very embodiment of Bodmin Moor and Cornwall for me and Daphne that Western Lands true artistic ambassador.
