  1. I believe you'll find this was ultimately caused by the current, and sadly still ongoing, bilge pump strike. It appears that there is dissent within the bilge pumpers and empties union over pay and conditions. It also seems that the majority of pumps, or 'bilge content extraction engineers' as they now wish to be known by, have not been receiving adequate tuition during handovers nor given the opportunity to view the relevant videos. To be honest, it seems that most of the effected pumps feel that they are being kept in the dark
  2. Nanni wanted £240 plus vat for one single con rod, JEM wanted £66!
  3. Thanks for that. Most helpful. I shall pay extra attention in that area and report back.
  4. It is. Absolutely first class service, couldn't be more helpful, excellent stock levels and overnight delivery. Once you know which version of Kubota your Nanni is based on it gets very easy. As an aside, and because I have been somewhat outspoken before on this, it would appear that, with the correct information, the Nanni is not the throwaway engine some would like us to think it is. "You won't get anything for that mate, it's too old, best to buy a new engine" was the advice I received elsewhere last Friday!
  5. From a business in Mrs G's neck of the woods. One of the most helpful companies I have ever dealt with. Got me a proper receipt and everything
  6. Now that's the interesting bit, more of which later once the rogue parts return and Investigations are complete.
  7. No. The little end is absolutely fine, it's just oily in the picture. Basically the engine ran away and hydralocked. On removing the head, no's 1&3 pistons were dry and fine but no. 2 had about 150ml of oil on top of it. That piston no longer made the journey to the top of the bore so engine out and bent rod discovered.
  8. That is a regular occurrence from a minority fishing from the park at Oulton Broad. That and beer bottles!
  9. Though there is also the price of the inverter and associated costs to put in the equation
  10. It's a hydraulic failure. The lock is now being operated by hand. That'll 'fitten' em up a bit!
  11. And there was me poised with camera awaiting the splash! So apologies forumites, for possibly the first time in his extra curricular boating activities, Grendel came back dry
  12. Just a quick reminder of where and when you can come and see this years participants. Beccles Wooden Broads Cruiser Show 10th - 14th August 2022 Tuesday 9th overnight: Salhouse pre event Get Together. Salhouse moorings are not pre bookable but I believe some of you are going to get there early and grab some space! Wednesday 10th Cruise from Salhouse to Stracey Arms followed by evening bbq on the Stracey Arms quayhead. It will be the same format as last year with burger, chips, salad and a cold drink followed by cake. Dawn has asked for numbers so if you can text, email, phone, shout etc as soon as you read this then we can get everything in place. £12.50 per head Thursday 11th Early start from Stracey for a cruise together through Gt Yarmouth, across Breydon and all the way to Oulton Broad. Just how early is open to speculation so I think we will have a chat on the day and decide. Slack water is approx 04.41 though there is a bit of variation according to who's prediction you use' Last years pontoon mooring arrangement at Oulton Broad Yacht Station worked out really well so we have arranged the same for this year. Thursday 11th Mid afternoon. Gathering at Seans. Sadly the people supplying the 70's buffet have pulled out and so, with time so short, we are going for tea and cakes. Bring your mugs for the tea! As usual we are looking for a couple of volunteer boats as 'water taxi's' (Lovejoy?). There is powerboat racing on the Thursday evening to look forward to as well. Friday 12th Our spectacular Cruise from Oulton Broad to Beccles. A provisional start of 11.00 but we may bump this back or forward a bit should the weather dictate. Friday 12th evening. “Back by popular demand finally (after two years of covid getting in the way) we have the bring and share meal”. I set myself up for this one didnt I. As many of you will know, Maxine organises the bring and share meal for us. Sadly, this year Maxine is not going to be there (something about missing engines and oars being too short) to bring it all together for us. Mitzi suggested I do a list of foods and get you all to volunteer to bring something off the list but work just isnt letting me find the time (I'm typing this in a hotel room in Bradford!). Its been one of those years... Instead I think we will do wine and cheese. If you can all bring your favourite tipple, glasses, plates etc I will sort the rest. Saturday 13th Show Day... yay!! Yes we are back to a proper unrestricted show day this year, its going to be fabulous. We will, of course, have our usual fun competitions going on throughout the day. Sunday 14th Tims boat jumble. A chance to clear out all that tat you have been hoarding to make space for all the tat you are going to buy to fill your newly acquired space.... Yup, we all do it! Entry List Confirmed - and subject to change! Broad Ambition Admiral Jack Water Rail Honesty Chloe Jane Silver Lady Ruby Papaver Lovejoy Missouri Star Tabitha Rose Broadland Grebe Star Glory Judith M Lady Helena Seraphina Kingfisher Bollysnigh Chameleon Silver Emblem 2 Hilda Queen of Light Moorhen Merlin Raisena Buccaroo Phoenix Brookwind (only on the northern bit sadly) Malvern Light You are welcome to come along and have a look round, meet the owners, scrounge a cuppa etc etc. Dont forget to introduce yourselves, there will be many forum members there. Competition: We are looking for piccys of the event itself or the boats travelling on any part of the event. The winner will see their picture on the front cover of next years event programme and be invited aboard one of the boats to take part in the cruise from Stracey to Oulton Broad or the Oulton Broad to Beccles leg of the 2023 event. Post your entries on this thread...

  14. Just a quick update and a few answers to some of the points above. Firstly, your faith in me is quite humbling. I thank you all. The site, although often referred to as 'The Database' or 'Craigs Database' has always been called 'Boats of the Norfolk Broads' That was Craig's chosen title for it and that title describes the site perfectly so it's probably going to remain. A revised front page with full and proper credit to Craig along with new site contact details will appear on the first update. The site attracts between 250 - 500k hits a month. Yup, that surprised me as well. Accessibility and updating: As you'll be aware, the site has had no maintenance nor updates for some time. There is an associated email Addy but the contents were returned to the mailers suggesting they recontacted the site at a later date, (gdpr prevented those emails being forwarded because they were technically sent to Craig and not me). Anyway, we need to make the site more contactable so contact point will now be on the front page from the first update. There has been mention of bringing the database into the NBN family. To be honest, this had been discussed at length back in 2020 with the then owner of NBN - (MaxwellIan) and that was the plan at that time. Since then the forum has changed hands yet again and that is why the database is going to be a stand alone entity. When the current owners of NBN decide to move on , having the database under the same umbrella could be seen as part of the deal. Did that make sense? You are right though Griff. NBN would be a very attractive partner. Privacy: Here's the new privacy policy (in my dreams)! This database contains pictures of boats. If you are on the boat and don't want to be we will erase you. If you are in the picture but next to the boat rather than on it and don't want to be, we will erase you. If you are just sat there at your keyboard looking for something to complain about please send us your keyboard. We will erase it for you That'll get me moderated for sure. Cheers all Dave
  15. Some very interesting points already. That's why I started this thread, to get some useful feedback. It is my intention to keep the site free to use and retain its non commercial status. I also plan to bring other people in so that it can be updated faster. Craig did it all himself and sometimes it took him months to update a listing, much to his frustration. I also need to establish some sort of protocol for its future. When Craig left us the site had absolutely nothing in place for that eventuality. I would like something set up so that, should I suddenly leave this planet, the database is both protected and more easily passed on next time. It was only because Craigs wife realised the importance of the database that it's still here now. Again, I value your thoughts.
