  1. I think that, as wooden boat owners we all know that , at some point, we will lose a season to a bigger repair session. What makes this one painful for Martin and Fiona is that it comes on the back of the previous two covid restricted seasons. Pleased to hear that Martham Boats will be able to help with a floaty boaty fix.
  2. That was me back in the day! The fleet was wooden and I had a tin of 'mix' in the dinghy next to me. Mix was 50% white undercoat and 50% white gloss. All the scratches and marks were painted in every week keeping everything nice and white for the next customers.
  3. Well there have been a number of Herbert Woods boats in at Oulton Broad over the last couple of days and all have looked pretty smart. They have all started, stopped, heated, bow thrusted and been well behaved. And no sign of the service van! In fact the only problem at all on a Woods boat was the poor chap who, having pulled his mudweight up and tidied it up on the deck, then tripped and fell off the bow of the boat. I guess the water is still pretty cold coz he was somewhat keen to get out again. No harm done and his phone was waterproof (perhaps an omen) which was a bonus. It does make you realise how easily these things can happen though.
  4. The clue is in the lack of step in the hullof the wooden ones. The fibreglass hulled version have stepped hulls making for a really roomy boat.
  5. I remember the days when all we took was a pack of cards and a game of ludo
  6. Don't forget that you'll pass GY at slack water rather than low water arriving an hour later by which time the tide is already starting to rise. The tide table will also offer a predicted height which will help. You are probably not too far off though you will be arriving at St Olaves with the tide up your transom so make your decision as soon as you see the first height marker thus giving you time to react if needed.
  7. The man is an expert in tiles. Tiles were good enough for the outside of the space shuttle.... No more wood butchery. No more planking. Nuff said
  8. You are not allowed to list the fenders for cleaning individually just to make the job seem bigger
  9. It's the way he makes it all look so effortless that's really impressive.
  10. Beaver Fleet 'Generation' must have been a bit earlier than the Sancerre? There's also an early Powles sedan in f/glass but I can't remember it's design name. In the meantime, I reckon the Sanderling could well have been the first sedan. Not sure there are many left now as the one stored at Wayford met the digger during that yard clearance after John left.
  11. It is at Clive's Horning Pleasurecraft site (I took it there last year when the 2021 meet was lost to covid!)
  12. It may just be a slight mismatch between your Nanni sender and Durite gauge Craig. Probably worth getting the sender parameters from Peachments and compare with the Durite input range. That engine didn't show any signs of having been too hot previously
  13. Drink enough and there's no telling what you'll see
  14. I thought he'd been playing with the electrics again.
  15. Yes, sorry. I thought someone else was going to post the news but they haven't! She was up by about 20.00 last night. She is sitting with a list to starboard which is the way she was laid when on the bottom so I reckon there must be quite a collection of silt in the hull. She is not out of the woods yet but they did get her up which was an achievement
  16. Well the sheets are in place, the divers are in and the pumps started about 17.00
  17. Harsh, true but harsh!
  18. If I put £127 of fuel in my mondeo it would double it's value!
  19. The problems are that all the normally dry interior parts become increasingly saturated so the boat gets heavier and then, as it settles into the mud it gets a better hold of the river bed. Breaking that suction will be the hardest part. It's a bit like lifting your mud weight after a couple of hours or after a couple of weeks. The longer it's down there the more it's stuck!
  20. Can you try a different post to see if it's the post that's faulty? Alternatively turn everything off, plug in and then turn stuff back on one at a time to see what trips it
  21. Either you are exceeding the 16a available power or there is a fault somewhere
  22. Sorry, not allowed to say any more as there are 'ongoing investigations' but yes, still on the broads.
