  1. One hundred percent agree Alan!
  2. We never buy bottled water and never have done. Bottled Ale, now that's different! The only people benefiting from bottled water, are the producers of it, making huge profits, from those of you. who are buying it. There's nowt wrong with good old Corporation Pop, straight from the tap. I'm still alive and kicking after drinking it for seventy years.
  3. I wonder if Richardson's issue this free to those who have booked a holiday with them, or will hirers have to buy it?
  4. Thank you for sharing your videos Brian. Those locks are very impressive and quite a depth too. The Shannon looks to be a very pleasant waterway to navigate, and a few strong currents along the way. Limerick looks a nice place as well.
  5. Sussed out how the Calender works now. I didn't realise you can view it, either monthly, weekly, or daily. I have now added our two holidays to the Calender, April & Sept.

If you see us, come and say hello!
  7. Geoff (GeoffandWendy) could you please try for us.. You can delete after if needed Managed to get us on the Calender now! Just one question though. There doesn't seem to be much space in the boxes on the Calender. On our second holiday in Sept, there is someone else on the same dates, which has filled up the space. What happens if say, a few more add their holiday dates on the same days. There won't be enough room to display all the information.
  8. until
On holiday, if you see us, come and say hello!
  9. Might be worth making sure your pet dog's don't go in the water, when on holiday, or drink any, except water from your boat.
  10. I tried to enter our holiday in April, but after clicking on save, I was told I don't have permission to use this facility.
  11. Ah well. like you say, we will have to see when we get there. There is plenty to see, to keep us going for a week and we will be back again in September.
  12. According to the brochure, Star Gem will go under Potter Bridge but we will have to see what the pilot says. Hopefully we will be able get through, if not we might hire a day boat. I don't think we will have any problem visiting Coltishall though, as Wroxham bridge has more clearance, (again we will need to use the pilot). I believe that side of Wroxham is very nice, with plenty of mooring spaces. Hope to have a ride on the Bure Valley Railway whist we are at Wroxham, so will more than likely overnight there. Our September holiday won't allow us to even get under Wroxham bridge, as we have booked one of Brinks Topliner's.
  13. Wendy & I hope you have a nice time whilst visiting the Broads this weekend, getting your boat ready for the coming season and hope the weather is kind to you. We are getting quite excited now, as it is just over six weeks, before we arrive at Staham, to take Star Gem on our first Broads Adventure. We have decided to stay on the Northern Broads, so we can cover the whole area, comfortably and spend some time at all the beautiful places there are to visit. We hope to be able to visit the other sides of Potter Heigham & Wroxham Bridges, providing we are able to, if not, then there are plenty of backwaters to explore and moor up for the night.
  14. Thank you for those links Griff, very interesting reading! Sorry Marshman, for getting the heading wrong about the title of the canal. Even if it doesn't get used by boats again, it shouldn't stop small craft like canoes being able to travel along its length. Or would the farmer who owns the land, even object to that? It amazes me, when people go to a lot of time and effort, to restore canals like this, always seem to come across someone who objects. It is good for the environment, the community and visitors alike, as well as good for nature and wildlife habitats. Much better than letting it decay and becoming lost forever. I wish all those involved the best of luck and hope that one day, they will achieve their goal. Alan, I too spent lots of time working as a volunteer on the Caldon Canal, during the early seventies. It is now a thriving waterway and attracts hundreds of boats, during the season. I used to live just up the lane from the Boat Inn and Cheddleton Station, where the Churnet Valley Railway has its headquarters.
  15. Whilst browsing on Youtube, I came across this video. Some of you may already know about it, but for those who haven't seen it, it is well worth a look. It is nice to know that this derelict abandoned waterway, is being restored again, for people to enjoy.
  16. Its like any bill, pay it a few days before the actual due date, otherwise if you pay earlier, they are getting all the extra interest in their account. Multiply that by the amount of toll payers there must be and they will have made a few hundred quid in just in interest alone, between now and the end of March.
  17. Pleased to hear you have found your ideal spot Alan. Hope everything goes alright for you.
  18. I know what you mean Iain, regarding whisky. It's like rum, you only see Captain Morgan or Lambs in pubs. Woods and Pussers, you only see in off licences or supermarkets nearer to Christmas. I usually stock up with a few bottles around then. I must sample some of the local ales when we are there.
  19. He could even name his boat "Hyacinth"
  20. Ah Grouse! A man after my own heart! Like mine with soda though. Wendy prefers G&T, but being an ex matelot, I do like a tot of Woods, straight! (If you can get it) I will probably bring a bottle with me, (for the boat) as not many pubs sell Woods rum.
  21. Marina & Ian, Wendy and I are so sorry to hear your bad news.
  22. Thank you Howard for sharing your Quiet & Peaceful break with us, it was a joy to read. Not too long before we will be on the water, but we will have been and gone, by the time Iain gets there.
  23. Yes I remember it now. They also did one of the French canals if I remember.
