  1. I think no more comment on this subject will be in order. It is obvious to many, that it was all a waste of time and money, but everyone is entitled to their views.
  2. I didn't actually know the chap so it's difficult for me to join in the critism! I do know he died during an augument aboute roses though, bit all happened several years ago now. Strange they were allowed to bury him in a car park. Do not slate him as being a murderer of the two young princes, when there is no actual evidence to prove it. and to compare him to Jimmy Saville is an insult. Torture and other gruesome acts were implemented during Medieval times by all reigning monarchs, so none of them can be classed as good, by today's standards. The car park were he was originally buried was the former site of a Franciscan Priory. This was dissolved during the dissolution of the Monasteries by Henry VIII. The cost of the dig was met by contributions world wide from members of the Richard III Society.
  3. Here are a few photos taken in Leicester yesterday during the procession of Richard III.
  4. It was interesting to note that Potter Heigham Bridge was built in 1385 exactly 100 years before the death of Richard III in 1485 at the Battle of Bosworth. Wendy lived in Leicester before we met so we both took an interest in watching some of the the dig in the car park, when the remains of Richard III were being excavated. It was proven through many tests and dna from a living relative, that the bones were those of Richard III. Yesterday, the remains were finally taken from Leicester University via Bosworth, where he died, to Leicester Cathedral, watched by millions of people from around the world on television on this historic occasion, something that has never been seen before or will ever be seen again. We were in Leicester to witness this historic occasion and all along the procession, people gathered to watch. Richard III has always been portrayed as an evil hunchbacked king, who murdered the princes in the tower, but this has never actually been proved. Yes he had a twisted spine, but this was due to scoliosis, but he wasn't actually a hunchback as such. Because of his defeat in 1485, the Tudors made a mockery of him, especially when Shakespeare was writing during the reign of Elizabeth I. But I personally think that he was not the villain he was made out to be. He was a caring religious person who introduced the bail system of our judicious system, and was well liked by the people of England. He was the righteous heir to the throne, so had no real reason to murder the princes in the tower, since they had been proven illegitimate, and was not a threat to Richard becoming king, after his brother died in 1483.
  5. First time I have seen some of the canals around London, and quite interesting. The only off putting side of having a canal holiday around London, would be some of the locals, like those shown in the film. As Hylander has said, Tim & Pru had the protection of a camera crew, if things had gotten out of hand.
  6. We love all your videos Paul, including all those not taken on the Broads. Look forward to your next Broads video It is the closed season for fishing Paul, so you won't be able to film any. Plenty of wildlife to film though.
  7. I tend to agree with Grace, not to get involved with politics as far as the Broads are concerned. Potter bridge is a grade 2 listed structure, so it isn't going to be tampered with to either raise it, or remove it and replace it with a higher bridge, just for the sake of boaters. It is after all a medieval bridge and should be protected. Hopefully our aim is to visit Hickling Broad in April, as our hire boat will go under PH subject to the water table and the pilot of course, we will have to see. We shall definitely be taking a run up to Coltishall as I believe this is a lovely stretch of river. As far as hiring boats are concerned, if a hirer chooses a boat that will not go under PH or Wroxham bridges, then a reduction of hire cost should be taken into account. (maybe £20 less per week), that is lees than having to hire a day boat, if one wants to visit Hickling.
  8. After I lost my wife I was on my own for three years until I met Wendy. I managed quite easily to change the duvet cover on my own every week, as well as washing and ironing, cooking and house keeping chores, so it is just not a woman thing. Sorry ladies. Having been in the Royal Navy for 16 years, gave me enough domestic training to look after ones self. Nobody but me to do my washing or ironing. Now I just take it easy and let Wendy do it all!
  9. We use the same method, using safety pins to secure it to the duvet, unless of course your duvet cover has tying loops like the one shown in the video. Simple's! Not all Duvet covers have zips either, some have buttons or press stud fastenings.
  10. We may see you during your second week, we will be on the Northern broads aboard Star Gem, 17th to 24th April.
  11. You can get flags on ebay, here is one of them -Jolly-Roger-/250680554888'>http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-x-2-Skull-and-Crossbones-Flag--Jolly-Roger-/250680554888
  12. from us. Make sure you take your flag with you, to fly aboard the Jolly Richie.
  13. Copy the link address, then paste it in your post
  14. Looks like you were in the wrong place at the right time. Never mind it wasn't the end of the world. Iain in Scotland would have had the best view, providing there was no cloud cover. Waiting for your comment Ian.
  15. 0935 about 80% maximum over Tamworth, just north of Birmingham. No cloud clear sky. Sky went slightly darkish temp drop of about 3 degrees. All over by 10 am.
  16. We always buy Aldi's Aloe Vera toilet rolls, they are as good as Andrex, just as thick and much cheaper. And your fingers don't poke through when you know what I mean.
  17. Most sensible drivers will adhere to the speed limit, but you will always get the boy racer types (not necessarily young drivers either) who always have to drive faster. Then of course you sometimes come across the complete opposite, what I call the little old lady drivers, who never seem to drive above 30 mph, irrespective of what the speed limit is. Let me tell you about a pair of old ladies in an immaculate Morris Minor 1000, we came up behind last summer. They were out for a Sunday drive on the A429, which runs through the Cotswolds. There was quite a bit of traffic travelling in both directions, all keeping to the 40/50 mph limit between Wellesbourne and Moreton in the Marsh. We had quite a clear road ahead of us, until we reached a couple of bends and came up behind this Morris Minor ahead of us, travelling at approx 25 mph. Thinking that the driver was taking extra caution on the bends, we expected that she would increase her speed once clear of the bends. As the road started to straighten out again, the old lady driving the car, kept her speed at 25 mph and as there was a constant stream of traffic coming in the opposite direction, we were unable to overtake, this went on for the next three or four miles, not being able to overtake, because of approaching bends, or approaching traffic. By this time, quite a lot of traffic had come up behind us, but the little old ladies didn't seem to be concerned, they were happily ambling along, enjoying the scenery. Then all of a sudden, as we approached a cross roads, the Morris Minor came to a halt, causing us and everyone behind us to stop as well. As lot's of traffic was still coming in the opposite direction, we were still not able to get past the Morris Minor and we noticed that her passenger had just unfolded a rather large map. With a few honking of horns from behind us, the old lady driver, then decided to put on her right hand indicator, move forward and had to wait again until the road was clear for her to turn right. Eventually, we were able to continue our journey at the designated speed of 40 mph again. Then to top it all, around the next bend, we came up behind a tractor, with a rather large trailer in tow. Before this, several cars behind us had decided to overtake us, (yes the impatient) before we were all once again caught up in another slow line of traffic, for the next few miles. Once the tractor had turned off the road, we manage to reach Moreton in the Marsh, at a leisurely 40 mph, were we decided to stop for a while and have a bite to eat.
  18. Four weeks tomorrow for us and we are really looking forward to it. Keeping our fingers crossed for some decent weather.
  19. Can't comment on the last post, because I have never been to Potter Heigham before. But it doesn't sound very welcoming for a new business, if it could do with demolishing.
  20. I believe he had his boat confiscated as well. This should apply to motorists, who get caught with no licence, tax or mot, not just those driving without insurance. Plus a ban from driving any vehicle for five years minimum, for these offences. including a heavy fine. Drink drivers, banned for five years and those causing an accident, ban for life. Sorry it may sound a bit harsh, but the message has been around long enough now, to make people aware that driving under the influence of alcohol causes accidents. But some people never learn.
  21. I can see where you are coming from as you own your own boat, but if you are hiring for a week and want to cover the Four Counties Ring, you cant keep mooring up if you get three or four days rain, or you would never get round in time to get back to your hire base. I am not running Narrow Boats down, because in the past I have covered most of the canals and thoroughly enjoyed it. Time for a change now, by discovering the Broads, which we have never done before by boat.
  22. All chocolate bars, biscuit bars, like Penguins and packets of chocolates such as Maltesers, Revels and even non chocolate sweets like Rowntrees fruit gums and pastels have all been reduced in size, or weight. This is to bring everything in line with metric weights and measures. Instead of pounds and ounces, that we British used to use. All products are now weighed in grams, so this is why you get slightly less these days. So you get less for your money, whilst the manufactures, gain extra profit.
  23. Are you sure you haven't missed anything?
  24. I don't really know what all the fuss is about. I doubt Costa or any other major coffee shop chain, are going to open up in Potter Heigham. It's too small of a place to warrant one. I welcome this new cafe that will be opening shortly, which will at least provide somewhere to sit and have a tea/coffee and watch all the boat mishaps at the bridge. Gongoozle Cafe would be an ideal name for it . I can survive a week without a Costa I suppose
