  1. I agree last draft, we usually get to the bottom of a subject as the thread goes on anyway so does it really make much difference who posts?
  2. Sad for the fish of it did take a fancy to it
  3. I also believed trolling when rowing to be legal but I could be wrong, I don't see what harm that really causes the fish as surely all you doing is making your bait cover a larger area increasing your chances of finding your target fish at a fairly sedate speed. Not that I have ever tried it myself
  4. I remember being able to go into the Ferry on a winters eve to find a roaring fire, the latest quiz show or footy match on the box, a welcoming place to have a few pints, that was as recent as 10 years ago but in that time a lot has changed. Take the pub at the WRC for instance....in my opinion totally and utterly destroyed by having all the character stripped out and posh tables and chairs put in. I often wonder what market that sort of venue is aiming at but that's a whole other subject and we are probably well off topic already!
  5. That would be an amusing day to be out Iain if every private owner got up one Sunday morning in August and thought.....I fancy a day out on the water
  6. I don't know why you all seem to think the broads is such a desolate place when the hire boats are tucked up for the winter. Have you ever been to the Hotel Wroxham, The Bridge at Acle, The Wherry on a Sunday afternoon in November.......I have and they are rarely scratching around for customers! The Wherry especially as I live down the road, it's a popular place with locals to. The broads has its own population you know!

Could we not put something similar on the A12, A17, A11 etc on approach to Broadland !!!

    Big Oops!

I imagine going up the bank nose first at 30knts could hurt quite a bit when inertia kicks in !!

Is it just me or does anybody else enjoy a bit of speculation and ridicule now and then!
  13. I can think of one industry that's heavily subsided, bus and coach companies recieve hefty fuel subsidies, I imagine haulage does to? Without these subsidies these businesses might not be viable either. The Broads would not be such a Grim place without holiday makers, yes it might affect the purse strings but a lot of people do still live here and make lives!!

    Big Oops!

A few years ago we stayed in a Static on the Causeway Coast in Northern Ireland and boy was it grim, it's got to be the most miserable 4 days away we had ever spent. Its really put me off them. Mind you, I'm quite fond of Wild Duck at Belton and I've visted some friends at Vauxhall Park before and the caravan / site did seem quite nice. They are both to close to the broads and not on a boat for me and I can't see many other reasons to want to holiday in Norfolk/Suffolk if it's not on a boat!!!
  15. I'm thinking of buying a few tins of antifoul and heading down to Breydon this Saturday!!

    Big Oops!

I'd expect someone to pay me £500 to get me to stay in a caravan in Gt Yarmouth donnygeoff
  17. Sounds like just desserts was served to the sort of people everyone else on the water could do without!
  18. I haven't attended a forum meet as yet but I'm putting forward breydon mud flats as a venue for one year!

    Big Oops!

Would you care to elaborate Charlie? Just for the record, I don't hate hirers, I used to be one and love meeting and chatting to the decent sensible folk that hire boats and visit the broads.
  20. Sounds like a perfectly good idea to me aslong as at the same time they put on free flights to Faliraki in the hope all the numpties go there instead

    Big Oops!

It may not just be the Gelcoat ChrisB. I know for a fact the Alphacraft Boat that got stuck at Thorpe recently suffered severe structural damage to its roof, the tide did come right in before they got that one free however which would have made the damage a lot worse. The guy tasked to fix the glass on it told me it was only the sunroof frame holding it all up

    Big Oops!

If you left a margin of error in any indicator the difference in water level over a distance of say 100m wouldn't be significant enough I don't think. It would still act as a clear indicator that the boat ain't gunna fit!
  23. dnks34

    Big Oops!

If a sensor unit or wire with chains was fixed to the shore as is the bridge then the clearance would be the same as the bridge whatever the state of tide!

    Big Oops!

I have to admit that the Siddy's light beam idea is actually a pretty good one really, or to simplify it a wire stretched across the river a good way before the bridge with chain hanging from it to the height of each bridge. They just need making idiot proof! Charlie does the bridge go up and down with the tide
