  1. I think we should all accept accidents and mishaps will occur.....but..... Ive said it before that I wouldnt get upset at a boat "touching" ours to assist in mooring, its those that are being reckless that I get hot and bothered about. The way I see it is that a sensible inexperienced person will be careful in what they do (you can spot them easily) and the people with no sense are the ones you dont want to be anywhere near (they stick out like a sore thumb!) like the romany hitting potter bridge, alphacraft at thorpe and various other events (horning) that have been reported on the forums of late, these are not accidents and mishaps, they dont get reported as they are a fact of life.
  2. Ive made mistakes, the best one was in moores basin (when it was moores) i had reveresed in to stern moor, the wife stepped a shore with a rope and as soon as she was off I followed her from the helm with the other rope, we soon noticed that the boat was not letting us pull it to shore as intended and felt rather heavy......I had left it in Gear! Still, no harm done and lesson learned!! The thing in all of this is you wouldnt go camping and expect someone to drive over your tent, kick your dog and pee in your bbq......
  3. Theres accidents and recklessness, unfortunately what BB has encountered is the latter. Accidents happen but recklessness on the other hand makes my blood boil, hitting another boat at full throttle, theres just no bloody need for it. If this ever happened to us not only would the culprit be paying for the damage to the boat to be repaired to as new standard I would also be taking up a personal civil case against the skipper. You can never totally relax being a boat owner on the broads, and I would argue incidents like BB's occur fair more frequently than has been suggested. Its just lucky there were no serious injuries BB (i hope) but one day someone will end up dead as a result of total idoicy.
  4. a joke? Theres nothing funny about being shot in the face
  5. Ive just driven by on my way home to the even rougher place known as Lowestoft, and Im happy to say I saw no gun wielding nutters, no police, no helicopters....nothing
  6. The hire firms just need to find a way of weeding out the stupid hirers and also the sensible ones with the potential to be reckless. I agree that the CDW probably leads to a lot of this type of thing and handing over a significant cash sum or having it held on a credit card at the start of each hire would certainly kerb a lot of this. In my opinion of course.
  7. Thanks for that Frank and all others who have posted. Sounds a very pleasant place indeed its now the top of my list for next season!

Griff are you sure that couldnt be called cruelty to animals
  9. Personally i feel the BA have got enough on their plate, sounds like a bit of spin or a smoke screen to me.
  10. So it look like being awkward might just cost Boulters money then? I bet they agree to transfer it now
  11. Not good customer feedback for Boulters when usually only good can be said for them. Would it really have hurt them to agree to a transfer, the boat probably wont breakdown anyway.
  12. Are there any owners on the site at Broadsedge in Stalham. Im just wondering what the prices are for this year if anyone could advise. Ive looked on the website but they dont advertise the rates!
  13. If I had a choice of engine in a hire boat mine would have to be a Rolls Royce Olympus every time, then there would complaints about speed and wash
  14. BMC, Nanni, Lister, Perkins, Beta take your pic
  15. The Vulcan flew over the airport in 2010, to say my windows shook was an understatement! Fascinating to see and hear, its a shame i dont still live by the Airport, I used to go down to the eastern end of the runway on Saint Faiths Road regularly to watch the aircraft coming and going. The wife and I sat under the runway lights one evening as a Fokker 70 came in, brilliant!
  16. On the southern broads I can pick up TV signal on the move pretty much uniterupted with a basic aerial and 12v booster, its on a pole and stands about 10ft above the waterline and its easy to remove and stow away when needed. I like my TV, I dont drink so I dont sit in the pubs other than for a meal early evening so when the lights gone to dim for fishing its a must for us. Whats there to see outside in the dark, and when you have been married nearly 15 year whats there to talk about?
  17. Is it possible the booster wasnt turned on or is it on permenantly.
  18. At a brokers your paying between 4 - 8% of sale for the privelage!! There may well be a similar setup when selling a sited static caravan to. A marina taking a percentage of a sale in my mind is nothing more than profiteering atleast a brokerage is providing a "sales" service for their fee. All this leads to me wonder what other costs are imposed on the hire industry so as mr A B & C get a pound of flesh to. Straining the industry even further, hoseasons and blakes for example, I remember one yard owner telling me once he had to pay quite a large fee on each boat hired wether he let it or his agent did. Is an organistation like Hoseasons even needed these days?
  19. At our last marina mentioning no names this was clearly written in the mooring contract
  20. Similarly if I decided to sell my boat from a private marina mooring, the marina owner would expect his cut of the sale figure
  21. Jonzo in some cases static caravan site fees can be as much if not more than toll/insurance/moorings. That is if you prefer a site with facilities and not just be in the middle of a farmers field! We looked into Carlton Meres in suffolk last year and if memory serves the site fees were in excess of £3000 per year.
  22. Does this mean our private tolls will be going up?!
  23. It reads elsewhere that they are selling the boats but keeping on the yard, if this is correct it does seem odd to me as surely the hire aspect of the business must be viable especially with their quality boats and reputation. If the whole yard came up for sale boats and all I for one would be in to see my business manager at the bank faster than you could say swancraft !!
  24. and if driving on European roads espeacially German ones then remember the important motto, Kill or Be Killed and mercedes drivers have right of way, at all times
