  1. if we are lucky we might hear it!! I may have mentioned before about it flying over Norwich Airport when we lived adjacent to it in Catton, ive never heard a rumble like it! I could feel it aswel as hear it, we used to get a few Red Arrows directly over our garden as they circled back to land after the fly past when returning from a show that they used Norwich as a base for, usually once or twice a year back then. I used a scanner when we lived there so i knew when they were approaching!
  2. oops! didnt know that! There was a harrier in a grassy corner of Norwich Air Museum that looked a bit like it had been dunked, was it the same one I wonder?!
  3. Having quickly scanned through the Airshow Accident link its a miracle theres any pilots left to display the aircraft! There does appear to be a quite a number of accidents. I would be satisfied with seeing a particular aircraft at an Airshow just doing fly pasts at different speeds, is there really a reason to display these old aircraft aerobatically. For me the engine noise is exciting enough without all the risk the aerobatics can bring. Obviously that idea wouldnt work out so well for the Red Arrows but displays over land or built up areas could just be about formation flying rather than the aerobatics which could still be carried out at any suitable venues ie away from built up areas, over the sea is perfect but maybe not so for a pilot I dont know. With the Harrier accident in Lowestoft the youtube footage shows just how quickly these things can occur, that pilot must have had nano seconds to decide to eject and he had no option as to where the aircraft would end up. I use to live near Normandy Barracks in East Yorkshire and we frequently had the Sea King over our Village at low level (apparently one of the crew lived in the village) sometimes the winchman would stand at the open door waving as it flew circles over our gardens. It was a great sight to see but it used to make me feel quite uncomfortable, if anything went wrong it was pretty clear where it was going to end up. Our street was often buzzed at high speed and low level when we lived there, harrier, tornado, a lone red arrow trailing smoke once, chinooks at night without their nav lights on, thankfully nothing ever malfunctioned but still, it can happen.
  4. Please feel free to correct me if I may be wrong but surely a 1950s aircraft carrying out Aerobatics over a built up area is a lot more risky then having relatively modern airliners above our heads flying non aerobatically. I am not calling for any ban but surely any risk to the public is to much risk atleast thats the way I see it. Lets not forget those who were killed where not even at the show so to say people are aware of the risk is a bit....well..... The pilot obviously knew the risks but the people below him could not have been aware of the potential perril flying a aircraft in this way was exposing them to. Would a 747 on approach to Heathrow fly in aerobatically!!
  5. From watching the footage It appears to me as though the pilot could be trying to advert the tragedy right up untill the moment of impact. If he had the option to eject and didnt it speaks volumes of the poor man to me. Its reported he is a highly regarded pilot and lets face it they dont just let anyone fly these machines in this way. Its of no comfort to those involved but Shoreham being built up, just maybe it could have been far far worse. I do agree we shouldnt speculate but I still think the powers that be need to start looking at where displays are taking place and changing things around built up areas.
  6. Neither the 747 involved in the Lockerbie terrorist bomb or the brand new 737-400 involved in the East Midlands crash were built with 1950s technology
  7. Tragic incident, I hope if theres anything to be learned that steps are taken to prevent anything like this happening again, whilst it was freak its not really a one off anymore. I believe the Ramstein accident led to the display line but something else ought to be done to prevent these ageing aircraft falling from the skies onto innocent folk going about their business. I do love an airshow but maybe the location suitability ought to be called into question.
  8. www.carpetfinishers.co.uk Local guy in Norwich, he has whipped some carpets for us and we are very pleased, he may well supply fit and do the whole shabang for you, best to contact him by telephone.
  9. If the moorings by the Stracey Arms form part of the temple you can bet they will be quickly withdrawn when they get up and running. Lets face it, it was never going to be turned down was it.
  10. Wondered how long it would be till somebody said that, yea my bad, it was only placed on it for the picture
  11. Well our little Sea Bass was caught on 2 red maggots and a size 14 barbless hook. If your just dabbling like us you will probably just catch the smaller species, unless your specifically targeting the pike its unlikely you would catch one on 2 maggots but that said its not impossible. We usually use wagler or stick floats on about 5 pound line with 12 14 or 16 hook sizes, ledgering is also good but not much good doing that from a moored boat as you can get false bites if the boat moves slightly. If you get hooks to nylon and a loop tie er that despenses with the need to tie individual hooks and you can change size easily if your not catching. We have had some nice roach, skimmers, perch, dace, eel (but they are a pest to unhook). There are some nice size perch and roach around if your lucky! Have fun!
  12. Its the first one I have ever seen, beautiful little fish! It was released unharmed and shot off like a bullet!
  13. Ive googled baby mackerel but im not sure, its perch shaped but the wrong colour, are there perch hybrids?!
  14. my son has just caught a small fish at reedham and im not sure what it is, its sort of zander looking but its pure silver and had two dorsal fins the forward one was spikey, how do i put up a picture!!
  15. Swans can be viscious buggers but are not normally so. I am usually quite confident around most of gods creatures (that is unless we are talking lions tigers or anything else that can rip you limb from limb). I have been known to handle swans and other water birds to assist them when caught in fishing tackle (if i can catch them and I think I can help). However there was one day I was walking round a trail at How Hill to round a corner and be confronted by a swan protecting its nest, did I walk past it....did I heck!! This one meant business and it wasnt having any of my charm. captaindread, maybe the one that got you was protecting its young to, or just having a bad day!
  16. Hi Tom, thanks for that advice, yes the way it's been installed (not by me, by a rather large hire operator) is all the air for the unit is coming from the same space, a rather enclosed box under a seat unit, there is some ventilation however. Could this be the reason for my smell on cool down, as I said before its works faultlessly otherwise, no smoke, starts first time and no smell whilst running normally. Many Thanks
  17. With any luck somebody more considerate will buy it. It may not be a non starter with your insurance, and there's always small claims, even though it's only a bit of gel coat Id be tempted to do it anyway just to spite them, I won't say what I think of them. Do we all need to fit our boats with all round CCTV?
  18. It's been doing it 5 years and always worked faultlessly otherwise!!
  19. Sorry to thread hijack, I have a webasto 5000 air top and when you switch it off and it starts its cool down cycle a faint diesel smell comes through the warm air vents for a short time. This only happens briefly on cool down. Is this anything to worry about?
  20. If everything posted on an Internet forum is to be taken as fact then there's one hell of a lot of know it alls in this country.........
  21. I bet they don't get so close to metal hulled boats
