  1. a friend of mine was actually going out with Johnnie Kidd at the time that record was climbing the hit parade
  2. Tony rants and raves about the "cautious" drivers that habitually travel at considerably less than the speed limit. His particular bĂȘte noir are those that brake as soon as they see an oncoming car. I'm infuriated when they turn out to be women as they give the rest of us girls a bad name and something to live down. These days my pet dislike are young females who tailgate. So many of them do it. On one occasion I got so tired of the stupid girl behind who was inches off my bumper, when I got to a road junction I stopped. got out of my car, opened the boot and invited her to get in., to the immense amusement of the young man sitting beside her whom no doubt she wished to impress with her aggressive driving style. The stupid thing was that out on the open road, rather than in suburbia where we were, her Corsa wouldn't have got near my XJS V12 Jaguar. CarolE
  3. My first visit to Geneva was when I was13 too. We had driven from France. We found an Hotel and my father ascertained how much it would cost and was happy with the rates until he came to settle the bill and realised he had forgotten the quoted price was Swiss francs rather than French which made the bill whole more expensive than he'd thought. Carole
  4. Typical DJ I'm afraid. We went to s 50th wedding Anniversary bash a couple of years ago and the music was diabolical, Rap or something that sounds like that! One of our group went up to the DJ and gave him a real telling off. "Look around" she said, " who do you see here that is going to enjoy rubbish like that?. "The clue is in the name of the celebration. 50th Anniversary. Our generation produced some of the best music of all time, so let's be having something more appropriate" In the face of such fury he didn't dare not oblige! CarolE
  5. I believe the sister restaurant to The Swan at Ingham is The Wildebeest at Stoke Holy Cross which is our favourite venue for a special occasion when on the boat, I think the menus were pretty similar, with the chef at the Swan competing in Masterchef The Professionals last year if I remember ccrrectly. He didn't win. Carole
  6. welcome from me too. That''s some hiring history you have there. Hiring again must have felt like coming home! Carole
  7. Oh Charlie he is much too far past his sell by date for that to be considered an option! CarolE
  8. The company has gone and at the suggestion of our plumber we spoke directly to the company that originally took them over to try and arrange for their service section to come out and do the job I dare say it would be possible to locate the part somewhere or the other, but how long would that take and meanwhile we are without a working boiler. It was an obscure make of boiler and we are not altogether surprised at the situation. Out house was a new build and the subcontracted plumbers not all that good, and I can imagine them sourcing the cheapest boiler they could find in order to get the contract with the cheapest quotation. I suppose the most surprising thing is that the system lasted 14 years without giving trouble, apart from the thermostat which we had to replace earlier this year. Carole
  9. Came home from the boat Sunday after a week away .Boiler won't work, We have a great plumber, who came Monday, ! It's the circuit board apparently needs replacing and no longer available. He can install a new boiler on Thursday, Oh well, not to worry we have an immersion for hot water and a gas fire, installed as a back-up should the boiler fail, in the lounge so should be o.k. for a few days. gas fire does the job perfectly Sunday and Monday, broke down today needs a new battery. Impossible to get a replacement except on Amazon as it's a specialised battery. Well it would be wouldn't it? Oh the joys of modern living! Carole
  10. I firmly believe an awful lot of bugs are picked up off a supermarket trolley, we always keep antibacterial wipes in the car and have good wipe of hands, car door handles etc. when we come out of the supermarket after stowing the trolley. Carole
  11. Oh! Be still my beating heart! CarolE
  12. We always have pot of vaseline on board in particular to grease the top of the domestic water filter so that it can be removed easily when replacing at the beginning of the new season. Carole
  13. If you'd done that in the first place there would have been no need for me to take any tone at all! CarolE
  14. Gracie that's quite enough! Behave! Next you'll be telling people, that the South is peaceful, quiet full of decent restaurants , pubs and has much more to offer than the beautiful North! Stop it at once! CarolE
  15. I used to live opposite to a golf course in North London, we built the House ourselves and had the front windows glazed in 1/4 plate instead of the standard of the day which was 16oz in anticipation of stray golf balls. We had one incident where a "plug" of glass was"shot" out of window, we thought at the time it was unlikely to have been a golf ball and more likely to have been some sort of firearm. We had the car dented by a golf ball though. Carole
  16. They were moored by the the slipway used by dinghies, but were slightly too long for the mooring but at least they were moored. Having watched the whole scenario I felt what they did was out of order. Carole
  17. I have no problem with "oxygen thief" I think in certain cases it is perfectly succinct. It conveys all it should without being obscene. What's not to like? Car
  18. If he threatened you with Christmas no wonder you were cross! CarolE
  19. Clearly they both need attention where we take them for this? Carole
  20. We've been known to remove towels from reserved sunbeds in foreign hotels. Tony is not the type of man whom one is encouraged to take issue with! Carole
  21. This afternoon we took a drive in to Horning and parked up on the quay to watch the coming and goings. A boat pulled off leaving a mooring space. A couple came along on foot, the man went off the woman remained standing by the space.A boat came in to try to moor there and was turned away by the woman, he pulled off again. A few minutes later her husband arrived in a boat and moored there. I think this was out of order, after all first come first serve. The other boat was there first and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have stood for that. I thought it was really cheeky. Carole
  22. Yesterday while sitting in the cockpit reading the papers,we heard a small explosion followed by a hissing noise. Investigation found a life jacket laying on a shelf in the forward cabin had inflated. Anybody got a possible explanation for this? The other life jacket laying on the same shelf is seemingly unaffected. Both jackets have been kept on the shelf for ages. Carole
  23. We have had lots of incidences of birds flying into our half glazed back door judging from the perfect impression left behind on the glass, the culprits are usually collared doves. Thus far we've had no casualties and no incidents recently It usually occurs during theSpring/early Summer. I've always assumed they are seeing their own reflection and flying at what they see as a rival Bird invading their territory. Carole
  24. Nothing like a new hair do to lift the morale! Who are you making war on Inge? Personally I use a painting by numbers kit! Carole
