  1. You obviously have too many boats booked…scratch that, too many boats is never an issue!
  2. Love that last picture but one.
  3. Maybe not such a clever move unless the food items meet expectations. That sausage muffin that Griff had looked awful. I wouldn’t pay any money for that. If Richardson’s business is based around a lot of returning customers I can’t see that the cafe will last long.

I didn’t pay that much for my smart phone, just over a £100. I bought a Motorola phone that had very good reviews at the time that was not part of a package and got a deal with our WiFi supplier BT for £5.99 a month, though I don’t get a huge amount of data for that. Not enough for streaming anyway. I think the all in package phones and sim are a bit of a rip off.
  5. When my brother in law returned to the UK about 10 years ago he got a job a Dunelm. There was a staff ‘friends and family’ discount event which he shared with us, so we got 25% off a new curtain track, curtains and bedding. The curtain track has not worn well and needs replacing, even though it’s half the age of the rest of our curtain tracks. We are not impressed with the quality of the bedding either and are looking to replace that, so don’t think we had a good deal, even with the discount. Normally our bedding etc. lasts us years and years. Having said that, I know. Lot of people love Dunelm. I have a colleague in work who swears it’s her favourite store.
  6. There are larger boats that still have a lowish air draft or a retractable roof and will get under Ludham Bridge. Back in 2017 we hired Royale Emblem from Ferry Marina for a week for a party of 5 adults and a dog. It is an older boat, but we found it very comfortable and more recently she’s had a makeover. Had a great time. We got under Ludham Bridge to get to Gaye’s Staithe, under Wroxham bridge to get to Coltishall Locks and under Trowse Bridge to get to Norwich. Obviously, as we managed to get to Norwich, we also got under those two pesky low bridges at Great Yarmouth.

I think the problem for many retired people is that their techy/ digital knowledge degrades quite quickly, especially nowadays when the speed of change is hotting up. And I say this as someone who has today applied for an enhanced ‘mutually acceptable retirement scheme’. (MARS) One thing I noticed since the last one was on offer is the change of language. Last time (about 5 years ago) is was a ‘voluntary severance scheme’. Everything nowadays has to be dressed up in ‘positive’ language, end result is the same. Mind you, if my application is accepted I’ll be jolly glad.
  8. Yes it has gone more smoothly than I expected. Just waiting for Graham to do a few jobs. We took the opportunity to replace the ensuite mirror and light above it with a new mirror that has the light around the circumference, so that's now in place. We also need to get a new curtain track for our bedroom - but John Lewis online seem to be completely out of the length of track we need in all their ranges. Maybe we need to try IKEA.
  9. Thanks for the update. So pleased to hear you had a good time and even better, are planning your next trip.
  10. Finally…managed to empty all the boxes in the dining room. The glass and china boxes took ages to empty as everything had been wrapped so carefully. They had used masses of paper. I folded quite lot of it and have put it in one of the empty boxes for future use, but even so ended up putting three bags of paper out for recycling collection this morning, having compressed said paper by stamping on it a lot. Just two boxes left now in our bedroom.
  11. As Malcolm mentioned, the height gauge does seem pretty accurate and the bridge doesn't have any arches. The approach to it is also a lot more sheltered than any of the other bridges on the Broads, so even if you think you don't have much clearance you can creep up to the bridge really slowly and check. There's also very little traffic up there so, if anything, I would say it's easier to negotiate than the other bridges if your clearance is in doubt.
  12. Don’t we all! I’ve gone under Watford (rather than Weyford) bridge before now.
  13. I’m interested in who you consider to be normal Broads folk. Personally, I’ve met a broad (pun not intended) range of people enjoying the Broads.
  14. My husband and I were very late in discovering the Broads. Not until we were into our 50’s. I think we are making up for it though!
  15. Is the wildlife getting more cheeky? First Neil’s heron, then your duck. Mind you we did pick up a passenger duck for quite a while whilst traversing Horning last year.
  16. Chock full then! The most I’ve experienced there is three boats.
  17. Sounds like a brilliant community and a wonderful evening until Findlay’s dunking. Hopefully it will make him even more cautious. Glad he was fine. The tide can be fairly swift even in Stokesby.
  18. Glad to hear you made it to Dilham!
  19. Yes we do. The good news is a new generation is being introduced to the Broads each year. I was reading Catcouk’s thread earlier this week and his young son seems to have caught the Broads bug.
  20. What cheeky visitors! Obviously expecting to be fed. I suspect the problems mooring at Stokesby are mostly within an hour or two after the turn of the falling tide, as the flow is often in an opposite direction to what you’d expect on a rising tide.
  21. Last year it cost us just under £15 for 4 days.
  22. Yes, I’m expecting it to be chaotic! At least it doesn’t look that near the bridge. Thank your lucky stars you’ll miss the works Malcolm…at least on MS. I was also thinking they normally give more notice, so I suspect these works weren’t anticipated.
  23. I like the way your abstinence from cake needed Neil as a back up. On a more sobering note…good point about those cows in the US. The animal husbandry on large farms there leaves a lot to be desired. I recall driving to a ski resort north of LA and passing a field of mud with cows lined up against a fence to get at fodder dumped along the outside of the fence. It did not look good! The BBC’s article about it gave some staggering stats on how many farm animals had died in fires in the US over recent years, so it’s obviously not an isolated incident.
  24. Given the BA normally try to do the bulk of quay heading renewal during the winter months, my guess is that this repair job wasn’t forecast. Maybe the quay heading got damaged? In other areas of the Broads the repair would probably have to wait, for instance there was an area of Hardley Cross moorings taped off for quite a while last year or the previous year. Given how popular the Ludham Bridge moorings are, I don’t suppose it would wash if they just taped off the dodgy section over the whole summer. Lets just be glad they are fixing it. I agree that the Ranworth charge is way out of order, but let’s not start BA bashing again at the least thing.
