  1. We went to Cromer today by car. The dogs had a really good run in Pretty Corner Woods (just off the Sheringham road), so we left them in the car whilst we had a look around Cromer. Lots of the cafes were dog friendly though.
  2. I don't know how Kate does it either. I don't seem to have walked very far at all so far this trip. I've been wanting to walk to Fishley church for some time though. What do you recommend Kate...wellies or walking boots?
  3. Yes, she sat just in front of the boat lift. Blue Mist looks like she's having some work done too. She's moored up opposite where the hire boats are normally (in the corner). The Admiral (Russel) is on board Thunder this week too. I haven't yet met him though. Kate (who met him at Potter Heigham yesterday) told me that he's got people with him, so I don't like to crash their party, even though Thunder also returned to HPC this afternoon.
  4. Good to see you earlier Kate, even if it was just for a fairly brief walk at St Benet's in between showers We are now nicely tucked up on our home mooring before the wind strengthens this afternoon. It's already picking up.
  5. It's been quite sunny and we have had a lovely cruise from Acle to Neatishead, stopping off at How Hill for the dogs to get some exercise. Just as we were leaving How Hill Kate (kpnut) passed us, ironically on her way from Neatishead to Acle (if I heard correctly). Hope we get to meet up up properly Kate.
  6. Flippin 'ek! We all got woken up about 20 minutes ago (just after 7) by the boat being sharply nudged, which set the dogs off barking. Graham looked out but couldn't see any nav lights, but the sailey that was moored behind us last night had gone. No damage done but...grrr.
  7. It was indeed. We've finally managed to leave our home mooring. We first went to South Walsham where we had a lovely walk. Currently moored at Acle. It's only about an hour before sunset, so that's our cruising done for the day. At South Walsham.
  8. Happy New Year everyone. Church bells could be heard in the far distance from our berth in Horning. What a lovely sound to ring in the New Year. Beats fireworks any day, especially as they freak Seren out.
  9. Happy New Year Pauline and everyone else on the forum. Harry and I just took the dogs out for a final comfort break before midnight. There have been fireworks but they have been tempered by the heavy rain. The fireworks freak Seren out, so fewer fireworks are good. Pozzick isn't phased. Rain has eased and we can hear church bells on the distance. I can't help wondering whether they from Ranworth or Horning St Benedict's. Yes, it's now midnight and the fireworks are starting up. (Poor Seren.)
  10. Not sure if this should be in the jokes section, but this was our situation yesterday.
  11. It's fixed and we have water! Graham managed to get the part we needed in Roy's.
  12. This is definitely a friendly forum! Lots of lovely members have been in touch with offers of help. ( Thanks Mark, Jean and Sam, and to Malcolm for his advice.) Graham has managed to remove the pipe that led to the water filter and is hoping to be able to get a fitting (cap) so seal off the t-junction.
  13. Eek...I think I would prefer to cope with the water than lots of mould!
  14. New TV will have to wait for the morning. We didn’t have our dinner until about 5 minutes go (it’s now after 9pm). What I didn’t add to the previous post was that we didn’t go to do our food shop until we had unloaded everything, so it was after 7 by the time we got back from doing that. We are all tired out!
  15. Slightly dodgy start to our fortnight. We didn’t arrive until around 4pm, and by the time we’d unloaded stuff from the car and top box it was getting dark…and we still had the trailer to unload. I wanted to wash my hands so turned the water pump. We could hear a gushing noise, and initially thought it was the en suite shower. By the time we figured out where it was coming from there was about an inch of water on the floor of the under sink cupboard. The water filter unit had completely sheared off, so it looks like we won’t have any running water until at least Tuesday. On the other hand, both dogs look content to be on board.
  16. Enjoying your tale so far, looking forward to more. Shame about the boat at Neatishead. I remember reading about it at the time. A wise move not to share gossip about it on the forum though.
  17. We are due back on Moonlight Shadow tomorrow. I don’t know what’s got into me. Though I did review our packing list, I haven’t made any other lists at all. No ‘what to cook’ list, no food shop list, no cruising plans. On the other hand I feel very relaxed about it. We are staying on the northern broads anyway, so can always return to our home mooring and pop in the car to Roy’s if we need anything. Plans for the boys joining us have slightly changed too. Harry is with us for the first week, as he’s got leave from work, but Alec has decided to stay home the first week as he wants to spend the New Year with his friends. So we’ll probably end up doing a trip back to MK half way through the fortnight to drop Harry off and pick up Alec. It will be Pozzick’s first time on MS. Hope he will be happy on the boat and that returning to the Broads doesn’t trigger any anxiety!
  18. That’s goods news. I wasn’t exactly panicking at the thought of not being able to get to Lathams next week, but it’s nice to know we can if we wish.
  19. Looking forward to meeting up Pauline. I won’t say in deepest Bucks, because MK always feels like on the periphery of every boundary. We are at the northernmost edge of the county. If you try to Google for nearby interesting places you never know what area you are supposed to be searching in.
  20. Mindful that we are off to the boat on Friday I’ve bought far less food this Christmas than I normally do, and feel a lot better for it. Yesterday the boys and I just had a fish platter smoked salmon, pickled herring, trout pate and smoked mackerel with salad (cheese platter for Graham). We still haven’t eaten our Christmas pud though! This lunchtime for pud I tried a recipe from this months Good Housekeeping Mag. Sticky rice with mango. The rice has creamed coconut mixed in with it and the dish is sprinkled with desiccated coconut toasted in a pan with sugar. Yum! I will definitely make it again.
