Hi, We are next on Moonlight Shadow on 30th Dec. We are moored at Horning Pleasurecraft and they are closed over the Christmas period until 3rd January, and they have informed berth holders that the water will be switched off during that period. Apart from Ranworth (where I gather the water is available year round) where else can we fill up with water? Malcolm (Mouldy) has tipped me off that Ferry Marina is hiring over the Christmas period, and I can see they have boats available for a 31st December start, so presumably they'll be open on 30th as well. On the northern broads I'm aware that the hoses will have been removed at Neatishead and Barton Turf, but I'm not sure about Gaye's Staithe and Acle. There's a possibility, depending on the weather, that we might go south on Saturday 31st, as the tides make it do-able in daylight for the first few days of our trip. Is there anywhere else that we can get water down south apart from Loddon? I'm guessing that the Oulton Broad Yacht Station and Beccles Yacht Stations will be closed, but unsure whether we'll be able to get water nevertheless.

I purchase Kindle books directly from the Amazon website. It seems to recognise the gadgets I have kindle loaded on and asks me which I want the book downloaded to. It’s not a problem to then sync to other gadgets.

Yes I do miss it. I was hoping to get a new one for Christmas, but Pozzick related expenses (such as having to buy a trailer for the car earlier this month) have rather constrained our spending this Christmas. At least I still have my iPad, and means to charge it whilst we are on the boat.

I’ve now got them on my iPad, courtesy of Kindle, so they always accompany me to the Broads. Sadly my actual Kindle has died on me. Shame as the paperwhite screen allowed me to read even in bright sunlight where the iPad is useless in bright conditions.

Phew, at least they are giving people good notice. When I saw the headline I thought ‘Oh no!’ But we should be fine.

Tatty is good, for a book. Just imagine the number of kids that had read it. Hope they appreciated it as much as you did.

Quietly…I wish.

Errr…no. My youngest (29, going on 30) is very fond of saying ‘are we there yet’ whenever we start off on a longish journey, such as when we set off for the boat. Our fault, having ribbed him so much for saying it when he was younger.

Not so much fun for me and Graham! I think I need to invest in some ear plugs.

Thankfully, it’s normally just for a short time, when we are close to usual walkies places. I’d go mad if it was constant!

I started reading this today, a gift from a dear friend who has obviously picked up on my love of Norfolk. It’s a book by John A Davies who had been chief curator of the Norfolk Museums Service. Very much enjoying it so far, though I’m only part way through the first chapter. So far I’ve learned that evidence of the very first human’s in Britain date back to around 950,000 years ago and were discovered in Happisburgh in 2013. That’s a lot earlier than had been thought. Fossils of very large exotic animals such as giant elephants dating from between 750,000 and 500,000 years ago were found near Norton Subcourse and gigantic mammoth bones found near West Runton. Looking forward to reading more!

As we are due to be back on Moonlight Shadow on 30th December I asked the family if it would be good to take some decorations with us. Harry came home from his shift in IKEA today with some LED battery powered lights that have a nautical theme…well sort of…sea shell and star fish shaped lights.

Does anyone have any info on what Horning looked like when Arthur Ransom wrote ‘The Coot Club? He describes, just downstream of the staithe… The boat-sheds were astern of them, the willow-pattern harbour, The description has always intrigued me.

We might be unlucky Kate, although I’ve not been impressed with what we’ve bought at the Latham’s bakery, there are lots of other members here who love it.

Get well soon Mark. I'm crossing my fingers that we don't go down with it again before go to the Broads on the 30th. We had our flu jabs on Monday and I felt really rotten yesterday, better than getting flu though. I've heard on the grapevine that this year's flu is a particularly nasty one.

You should get a reminder from the admin mailbox on 23rd. I've set up all the pre-holiday reminders up for the year in advance.
