  1. People have done tests on this... A Tesla uses about 1-2% battery per hour to keep the heating at a good temperature. Electric cars (apart from the cheap ones) have a heat pump so are generally quite efficient. You can of course also use the heated seats, which use very little power. So running it overnight (with little noise other than the fan) would actually not be too bad. A popular YouTuber (and tesla owner) who lives in Norway has done overnight tests and it was all pretty undramatic. Probably a better experience than being in an ICE car and having to run the engine and potentially ingest your own and others' exhaust fumes.... But yes, you might need to find a charger in the morning pretty pronto.
  2. They're a great car, but they do suffer with the tinworm like most Japanese stuff. My mate has got an AP2 and has spent a lot of money on fixing corrosion and undersealing everything. And yeah, like any Honda the power is above 4500rpm. Below that and there's no torque (my daily is a Honda), so you do need to rev the nuts off it. But as they say.... "when VTEC kicks in yo". I'd say an E85 Z4 is a good alternative... Get one of the six-pots and torque is not an issue. Not without their issues but once 'sorted' they're fairly reliable.
  3. Wow. Imagine if there was some sort of service where you could identify the species of bird you see and hear. What a good idea that would be. Shame no-one has thought of such a thing. PS. Don't google the Merlin app whatever you do! Otherwise this scheme might to start to look like some sort of white elephant. Fortunately, I am not a cynical person so would not suggest such a thing.
  4. There's plenty of specialists who repair EV batteries and swap out just the faulty module (which is usually the problem). Much like you don't just buy a new boat because your old one needs a new gearbox, people usually repair battery packs.
  5. I wouldn't disagree, but I wonder what effect that would have on trade for the businesses. In the short term I suspect not a great deal, but over time the passing trade which drives past Lathams and the boatyards isn't going to be there and people will come from Ludham and up onto the A149 by the Falgate and never venture into the village. There will still be a lot of people in the caravan park and using Herbert Woods who will use it, but regular punters aren't likely to know it's there.
  6. So the Bridge is still closed after two months. I walked over it yesterday and looked at the hole. It's not massive but clearly you wouldn't want it to get any worse and just filling it probably isn't the answer. What do we think the likelihood is that the bridge stays shut to traffic permanently?

I think BCBM offer a useful service in terms of marketing and having someone to do the admin etc but the stuff you'd expect in terms of buying power and working to ensure boats are kept to a marketable standard etc just isn't there. It's a big saving a syndicate makes by removing them from the equation.
  9. They didn't do one, bizzarely. Never really understood why. When the AF42 got updated into the MK2 (Brinks Symphony etc), they stopped producing the 38ft version as presumably the Pearl replaced it. So you had the choice of a Pearl 38 or an 'updated' 42. There was a 35ft version of the Pearl, but never a longer one. Not sure why really as I think it would have sold well.
  10. I do love a Pearl 38, they are indeed a very elegant boat and Fineway were cracking boatbuilders. It would be fair to say I'm a bit wary of syndicates (been there, done that) though Blue Mist has always looked a bit more 'loved' and the fact she's not used over the winter is a plus point too.
  11. How is Blue Mist doing these days? I think we were all a bit horrified when she did the submarine impression during lockdown, presumably the insurance allowed for some work to the front cabin?

  14. Yes unfortunately there was a problem with it that caused one of the recent updates to fail, so we've had to remove it. I'll have a look to see if there's a more recent replacement, as it is a handy feature.

  17. I can't remember, to be honest. Might be worth updating the specs with that. The HE denotes that it's the heat exchanger version (as are most Broads boats). So that'll be the 50hp four pot then?

  19. That's how I'd read it too. Pretty standard negotiating tactic - Propose a lot of change, provoke a bit of outrage and then 'compromise' by offering what had actually been planned all along. They do it every few years so we need to not pander to it and instead push for what the real agenda is. On another note, I see that JP is considerably past the usual retirement age for public sector. Perhaps now is the ideal opportunity to 'spend more time with the family' and let someone more talented have a go?
  20. Can they not be overhauled? Garages don't seem to want to do it these days, but you can sometimes still get the seals etc. A while back I had a binding rear caliper on what is now Mrs OG's car. The local garage I had been using for most work wanted to fit a no-name recon caliper. I queried why they wouldn't just overhaul and got the usual spiel about how nasty car manufacturers are not letting them have parts these days.... I pointed out that I could buy the parts from the local Honda dealer myself for £20 if they wanted. They weren't interested in doing it.
  21. I was just admiring the NBN (with its old branding) badge low down on the dash... Not seen one of those before and I've been here longer than most.
  22. Given that it's obviously sinking, the only sensible course of action would be to underpin it and restore back to 1970's levels of clearance under it? Right?
  23. I still have a bit of a soft spot for them too. A mutual friend of ours (and of Meantime for that matter) who was fairly prolific on the forum back in the day used to have one and it was a bit of a weapon.
