  1. Thanks Marge & Parge, but my system is rigid heat resistant plastic, not hoses. Only very short length of hose at engine junctions of about 150mm, which are fine. Attached is a photo of the type of pipework, it shows the cold water system but I'm at home and don't have a photo of the hot water system, but it is the same.
  2. Thanks Marge and Parge, I agree but the engine temp is always steady at about 75 deg C so I guess the thermostat is ok
  3. Thanks Smoggy. Yes, I believe the Beta is the same
  4. So sad to hear. We know how it feels, having lost our little Westie who loved the boat knowing it meant lots of interesting walkies.
  5. One problem of course, is that at Reedham, a hire boat coming back in a strong tide to say sorry and exchange details is just as likely to hit you again. The on the road 'don't admit liability' insurers instructions has probably something to do with the problem, albeit most hirers have paid for a damage waiver, so wouldn't have to get involved. We have only had one incident when we received damage, which was also at Reedham. When the boat moored next to us left the mooring going forwards with the tide, unaware that they should push the stern out into the tide and reverse out, they hit us. We weren't onboard at the time but the Reedham Ranger, said he had received a report from the Yarmouth Yacht station Ranger that a hire boat had hit us, removing a length of rubbing strake! Apparently the hirer's were a bit shook up and didn't want to risk returning to make a report, so continued across Breydon, the moored at Yarmouth briefly to report the incident and left full details. Fortunately it was a Rico boat and when I contacted them they said 'leave it with us and we will sort it'. We went home and they then organised a the repair at our mooring and when we went back to the boat I couldn't tell the difference. What a great company. For inexperienced hirer's, this is something we just have to put up with I suppose, although I do wish that when they go on their tuition run, they were told that the bot is unlike a car and steers from the rear and so you must watch where the stern is going. Also always leave stern on moorings in a straight kine and turn when clear. We hired for many years and were never told this.
  6. What a great forum. All these lovely people trying to help. Can anyone advise me what actually pushes the heated coolant through the pipework to the HW cylinder. This I am not sure of.
  7. Hi John. My engine is running at 75-77 deg C which is normal and the thermostat of course has to open to control the cooling from the raw water. With the engine running at this correct temperature, then I assume the antifreeze coolant running through the heat exchanger should be supplying to the HW cylinder as well, thanks for you help though.
  8. Hi Ray. The Nanni is a very similar engine to te Beta, both are marinised Kubota's as you no doubt know. The flow pipe near the engine is luke warm and the return is cold, so I don't think there can be a cold poin, however thanks for your help.
  9. Hi M&P. No there is no trace of antifreeze in the HW system and the coolant is steady at about 25mm below the cap on the coolant header tank (as per engine manual), so I'm not losing any coolant, but thanks for your help.
  10. Hi Dave. No there are no taps on the flow and return to the HW tank, only a drain tap for the whole coolant system, but thanks for your help.
  11. Thanks for your help John, but that is exactly what I have done and still no joy. All jubilee clips are tight and I don't loose coolant. There is a sensor switch in the header tack sending to an alarm and low level light to the dash panel at the helm. I just can't understand how the flow and return pipework loop can be blocked as it only has 50/50 water antifreeze solution in the system.
  12. I believe the boat you are referring in the photo (Kris Cruiser) is one of the Alpha 36's fitted out by Haines. I am aware of 3 of these on the Broads, they all have this internal handrail and are all circa 2009.
  13. Can anyone help please? My Beta 38hp engine BV1505 model has stopped heating the domestic hot water. There are flow and return connections on the heat exchanger form a loop via the hot water cylinder, but for some reason it has stopped flowing and pipework remains cold. I slackened the top connection to the cylinder in case of an air lock, but no luck. The engine is being cooled ok by the raw water running through the heat exchanger, so thermostat is OK. Any ideas please?
  14. Hi Dave. Not sure if you mean mooring a private boat or hire boat? Generally if a private boat you can't moor in a hire fleet yard. Although I have found Richardson's at Stalham very helpful when I've phoned in advance.
  15. No shame in cruising in a stink pot when you normally go afloat with rag and sticks! I'm sure you will have a great time. Like many others that I have met on the broads, I now have a broads motor cruiser to enjoy my retirement life. Having decided I may no longer be strong enough to be on deck sorting out a bit of a problem in a big blow at sea, I decided to make the change. I've sailed a few thousand sea miles and hundreds of races, but equally enjoy my Broads cruising. One thing I don't understand is why the broads rag and stick brigade (with a few exceptions) evade eye contact with motor boaters as so many Broads Snotty Yachties do in their tiny boats. They should wave to any fellow marinor like we do at sea. Have a great time and I look forward to you reports.

    Dredging

Hi Blue Moon,: Trust me, a dredger will prove a whole lot cheaper than the divorce you are risking!
  17. I believe she has been sold. I would have thought that's a good price, compared to what other boats are being sold for.
  18. Hi Wooster This was my actual order with Force 4 Chanlery about 3 years ago, which gives dimensions. Hope this helps. Force 4 Red Ensigns - Sewn 1 1/4 Yard 1 1/4 Yard£43.951£43.95 Lahna Ensign Staffs - Pine 4' X 32mm 4' x 32mm£31.501£31.50 Subtotal£75.45 Delivery£5.95 Total£81.40
  19. We have an Alpha 36 and our ensign has a fly of 45" and hoist of 22" and looks correct to me. I agree, get a good quality stitched one, not printed. Ours came from Force 4 chandlery
  20. Not sure about the demand for fine wines. While we were there, the clientèle on the bench opposite, by the moorings, were drinking cider from what looked like 2 litre plastic bottles of cider!
  21. Rosie Lees old building has now been re-occupied. Seems an unusual business for such a location.
  22. Yes Marshman. We bought a new car this year, we need an SUV type, with all the kit we take to the boat when we go there. We considered an EV but opted for a diesel again, which as you says is 'clean' and is exempt from any payment in ULEZ zones. Our journey to the boat is 117 miles, which in an average family SUV EV is fine if driven at a max of 60 mph and the ambient temperature outside is 21 deg C. However if the car is fully loaded and in the summer it's 30 deg C or Winter 0 deg C, then with the climate control switched on the range comes tumbling down and we couldn't get there on one charge, which is just not on. (I'm not talking about the mega expensive Tesla's and Jaguar's etc). My diesel does about 65mpg on the boat run, so that's what I will be sticking to for now. The government have set legislation that by 2035 all new cars will be electric, but the technology is not there yet for a decent range, so let's just hope it will be by then.
  23. Section S of the latest Building regulations say that new domestic dwellings must have EV charging Points equal to the number of off road parking spaces. https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1057375/AD_S.pdf
