  1. We ate at The New Inn last week. A warm welcome that we haven't experienced there before. Good food, everything seemed very clean, tables sanitised as soon as anyone left, friendly attentive staff and good prices. Lovely evening.
  2. We filled up at Boulters Tuesday, (2 days ago) 147p
  3. Hi Chris B, in the first picture, the boat is aptly named, they must have forseen the future! 'Wake Up .....................'

    Beccles

Bramerton Common is a lovely BA 24 hour mooring and a short walk to the Water's Edge bar and restaurant, or you can phone the Waters Edge and reserve a free for patrons mooring on their excellent Staithe. Not the cheapest but excellent food, spotlessly clean and friendly staff. If you are visiting Loddon, we agree with Smoggy, our favourite is the White Horse at Chedgrave, fabulous food lovely friendly service. Have a look at their website for entertainment. At Beccles, if you like an Italian restaurant, we enjoy the one at what was the old cinema, lovely decor, good food and friendly service.
  5. Sorry, we will just have to differ on that one then. Waves come from the wind direction, i.e. in this case south west.
  6. Agreed, the storm was a south westerly, but surely that would mean that the fetch for the waves would be from Everitt Park and the Yacht Station, not very far at all?
  7. I didn't subject Paul to our smelly tank, I did it myself. However Paul did advise pipe size and the addition of Vetus filters. He knows our boat inside out, as he built her and has serviced the engine since new. Great to have someone we can call if we have a problem, he knows where every pipe and wire is on the boat!
  8. This is where I got mine from, usually next day delivery. https://www.asap-supplies.com/search?query=waste+pipe This is what I used, with Vetus carbon filters to prevent the vent pipe smelling outside. My tank and skin fitting spigots are 25mm of which I have two.
  9. Probably the same people who get vaccination information from faceache rather than doctors and scientists. I too have used windguru for many years and find it by far the most accurate. Having given up yacht sailing and 'retired' to a broads cruiser, I now go radio controlled sailing each week with a like minded group. We all use windguru, it always seems much more accurate then the met office, even though it's a Czech Republic website!
  10. Should you buy a boat, do you have a mooring lined up? If not I'd make inquiries about those too, as they're not easy to come by, particularly for the most popular locations.
  11. Don't know what your budget is, but this is a nice boat that my sister has seen and been on board today. A lot of money spent on it and immaculate, also it's a Haines, beautifully built boats.. https://www.nya.co.uk/boats-for-sale/haines-26-aft-cockpit/ These hold there value and could be a great first boat https://www.broadlandyachtbrokers.co.uk/boats/392 Also a nice boat. Don't worry about location, road transport isn't that expensive. https://www.tingdeneboatsales.net/boat-spec.php?BoatID=8204392 Hope that helps.
  12. Don't just view online, I would recommend speaking to the Brokers face to face and following up regularly. A lot of the good boats are sold to waiting clients before they even get on the websites. What tends to happen is that an owner asks a broker for a valuation and then the broker awaits the go ahead by way of a commission. The broker meanwhile contacts his people waiting for that type of boat and advises they have a boat coming is shortly. A good one can be gone within a day or two of the current owner issuing instructions. If this works for you, don't tell anyone else online until you have secured it. P.S. Alphacraft are great boats, we love our one. See "Alphacraft Owners Group" on Facebook.
  13. Personally I would avoid outboard motors. Petrol is not available on the broads. Stern on moorings tend to be more difficult and there are many places where stern on is the norm. Engine theft, although I'm not aware of this on the broads, it is fairly widespread elsewhere. Diesel tanks are much safer.
  14. I don't think LOL very appropriate for such a misfortune, for one of our Forum's Sponsors!

    My Day

I don't know your situation, but if you are still working, it may not be the best thing to claim it, as it will be taxed. Rather than pay 40% tax because I was still working and it would be added to the top end of my salary, I deferred it for the period I was still working. This was nearly 2 years beyond retirement age and my monthly state pension accrued by 1% every 9 weeks, which I am very pleased with since I've been retired and claiming it.
  16. I was nervous when I took our boat through for the first time last year, so I paid the pilot who will now take private boats. From memory I believe it was £15 for the return trip. We went through with the gauge reading 6'6" and it my opinion it was well worth £7.50 each way for the peace of mind.
  17. Thank you for your great professional videos, a real tonic at this time of year when we are looking forward to being back onboard. We now have a broads cruiser, but your cruise to Southwold reminded us also of our years cruising the east coast on our yacht and with our late Westie that we miss so much, who looked so much like your 'Ship's Dog' Keep them coming please!
  18. I think it's outrageous that he gives a commentary about where he is and referring to millions of pounds worth of boats, for every villain to watch. He goes into the wet shed commenting on the sign saying no fishing, oblivious to the fact that he is trespassing. He demonstrates his lack of boating skills by ramming the bank before entering the shed, passing extremely close to the bows of some lovely boats, though fortunately missing them. The trouble is that trespass is not a criminal offence but rather civil, hence only an injunction can be applied for to stop further incursions. I'm not sure about the invasion of privacy by publishing on the internet would stand up. Can something be done to stop this guy?
  19. It is very close to several marinas, including Clive's 'new' Cove Marina. If the Yare re-opens and you fancy calling in, you can always call Paul at Swancraft (Shadow Boats) who has visitor moorings as well as full marina facilities, only a very short walk away from the Yare.
  20. Got to be joking. The most miserable landlord I've ever come across. Been there several times, as food was OK, but never received a welcome or a smile.
  21. When I went t Tingdene Oulton Broad August last year, I asked the person in the hut on the marina if the pump out was available to all and was told it was, but unfortunately they had a blockage and lost the fitting into the water that connected the pipe to the boat and were waiting for a new one. So might be worth a call.
  22. Where we moor at Horning Marina, there is a paddle board school, who go out early evening each day when the river gets quieter. It's professionally run and a joy to watch whilst having our sundowner sitting on the bow. We see the new people paddle out nervously whilst kneeling down and later returning and standing up, all chatting away. If I was a bit younger I would give it a go. Great to see a children's groups returning, with the lady instructor following up at the rear and playing 'What's the Time Mr Wolf', - when she calls 'Dinner Time' the kids exude confidence and paddle like crazy back to base to avoid 'Miss Wolf'. The broads are for all considerate people to enjoy life.
  23. In 2019 we were about to go through Ludham Bridge heading towards Barton Broad, when we saw a big Richardson 45 sun deck version trying to come through the other way. It was getting near low water and they were going very slowly as clearance was going to be tight. They were therefore doing everything correctly. We kept well over to our side of the river, but a hire boat immediately behind us started shouting at us to go through and eventually got so angry they rammed into the back of us to try and make us move. Leaving my wife on the helm, I went to the stern and and told him what I thought of his antics and that the passage through the bridge was blocked. He carried on shouting, so I took a photo with his registration, using my phone. He shut up then. What is wrong with people, they are on holiday, do few minutes really matter. The Rico 45 eventually thought better of it so backed off and picked up a mooring. Last summer we decided to spend the school holiday period on the South Broads, as much more relaxing.
  24. The Hoseasons website has a few more photos and the layout. Have you seen it? https://www.hoseasons.co.uk/boat-holidays/horning-pleasurecraft-ltd-rhmb/skyway-bh2698?adult=2&region=21647&sortorder=12
  25. This seems very ambiguous, as the existing post is on the South side of the basin. It would be more informative if it referred to 'The Side of the basin' rather than an end. An end to which side? I hope it's to the West side. Rockland St Mary.pdf
