  1. Please don't forget that Man Overboard is an emergency and you haven't got time to mess about with deployment of rope ladders etc. Engine in neutral once close by, deploy life ring attached to lanyard and pull casualty to easily deployed ladder. Therefore I would recommend fold down type on the transom which can be pushed down quickly, which I have had on all my yachts and now my Broads Cruiser. Two fat round fenders can protect it when mooring stern on. Cost is irrelevant. Suggestion below: https://www.force4.co.uk/item/Trem/Force-4-Boarding-Ladder-with-Wooden-Steps/I5F This is my current solution
  2. Have now used this shop, it is well stocked, light and airy and somehow seems much bigger than the old Spar shop. There is a vertical banner on the pavement outside saying Coop, so there must be some affiliation there for the stock supply
  3. I think it's to make the boats look more like private craft and therefore more appealing to the discerning hirer. I first noticed this with the large hire craft from NYA. When Clive started his Horning Pleasurecraft, there was also just a discreet stainless steel company name on the sides and the boat name on the transom. I think the font and branding he uses looks great. We however, with our Swancraft are trying to buck the new trend
  4. Looks like your new mooring is near us, we are further down the pontoon, third boat from the end. It's a lovely marina.
  5. Lovely photos Mouldy. Seeing your photos of Loddon has just reminded me of a strange anomaly we experienced late April this year. Wanting to get across Breydon at the correct time, we left Loddon at first light albeit it was a bit misty. In places along the Chet it became very misty and I had to go very slowly as it was difficult to see ahead, although I could see the bank. My wife was taking photos of swans coming out of the mist, when she noticed that we could see very clearly via the iphone on camera mode but very poorly with normal eyesight. Strange that our normal vision saw the thick mist but the iphone didn't. The mist was low level over the river, seeing planes at 30,000 feet wasn't a problem. Has anyone else ever noticed this?
  6. I hope to get the confidence one day, but at the moment I'm happy to pay the bridge pilot who I think is well worth it.Well done though M S. for doing both ways.
  7. Look forward to it. 'Fiddly' to you, nigh on impossible to most, me included!
  8. I've been following the progress Grendel and so enjoy seeing your updates of this incredible model. I just looked back at your first post on this thread nearly 6 years ago, what a labour of love. Keep going, do you have a planned day for 'The Launch' I presume Griff will lay on the Champagne!
  9. Congratulations, hope you have many years enjoyment like the rest of us. Yes, as people have said above, boats are not cheap to maintain in top condition. But life is to enjoy, who wants to be the richest man in the cemetery!
  10. Thanks Clive, that's brilliant, I will come and see you when we are down at the Marina later in May. Paul from Swancraft has just contacted me and advised that the bow roller fitting was purpose made when he built the boat, which is why I can't find this size on the internet.
  11. 1½ weeks ago we crossed Breydon Water leaving the Yarmouth Yellow Post to starboard at Slack Water, late afternoon. About 200m ahead of us was a Broom Captain (I wont say which one) and this boat was swerving from side to side within the channel and to our surprise, children were running around the deck via the bow. About halfway across the boat suddenly turned to starboard and went at right angles between two green posts and drove hard up the mud and got stuck. This was a jaw dropping moment, as the tide line was clearly visible. It was a rising tide but when we came past them, there was no mud weight down and so the onshore wind would just drive them further up the mud as the tide came in. We just couldn't fathom what they were playing at.
  12. Hi John. The cheeks of my bow roller have broken so it needs replacing. It has to be 30mm wide to fit between the guides of the stainless steel fitting, so I will need to replace it, but can't find anything 30mm wide.
  13. Yes I agree, it's people who died within 28 days of testing positive, arriving at these statistics by comparing death certificate's with registered positive tests I presume. Therefore a person in a fatal car crash who had tested positive within 28 days, would be included in the statistics. My wife and I tested positive 6 weeks ago, which lasted for 5 days. We self isolated but had no symptoms and so didn't bother notifying anyone. I think therefore that these statistics are now very misleading where deaths are concerned.
  14. Thank you all for your help, I'm just surprised I can't find a replacement for the existing roller (photo attached) Thanks Grendel for pointing out I need dimensions for the chain groove before I approach a manufacturer, I will be back to the boat in about 3 weeks. I was at Beccles about a week ago and saw Water Rail moored near Tim's office. I watched the Youtube video; the roller I need is slightly smaller Once I have these dimensions, I will follow up the other manufacturing suggestions members have kindly provided. Thanks again to you all. Paul
  15. My plastic/nylon bow roller needs replacing, as it's broken away on the cheeks after 14 years. However having searched on Google I can't find a suitable one. Does anyone know where I can find one please? The dimensions are Diameter 60mm but could go up to 70mm. Width 30mm and hole for a 10mm bolt. I have all chain on the mud weight running through a gypsy on an electric winch. I can find rollers with widths of 43mm and 49mm but not 30mm. any suggestions welcome please.
  16. We were at Loddon last week and the Toilets have been beautifully refurbished, except that the Male area has only one cubicle with no sign of a door, although the pre-drilled holes for hinges are in the partition. Talk about 'being caught with your pants down'.
  17. I took out an account with Flogas a few years back, they are quite happy to exchange my 1lkg Propane bottles one at a time, direct from their works on their own lorry. Here are details of their 4.5kg butane bottles https://www.flogas.co.uk/product/4-5kg-butane-gas-cylinder?c=all-cylinders
  18. Yes, I'd heard it was £2.35 at Broom, how do they arrive at that? I filled my car at Sainsbury's this morning with white diesel at £1.79 and the boat with diesel at Boulter's on Tuesday this week at £1.55 which is a difference to Broom of £3.64 per gallon. With their hire fleet as well, I would have thought Broom's purchasing power was higher that Boulter's. Well done Sonny Boulter.
  19. Have you seen this Bounty 37? https://www.apolloduck.com/boat/bounty-37-for-sale/683265
  20. Yes, I used their FB page yesterday to ask if visitor moorings will still be available and they have promptly replied that there will be.
  21. We signed up with Boulters last month, as they have a good reputation for the whole of the broads, albeit we moor in the marina next door to them. Cost £130 plus we opted for the additional fouled prop cover for £40 both incl. VAT
  22. This is what we have, very light and comfortable and good spec. Seago Active 190N https://www.seagoyachting.co.uk/products/active/
  23. We weren't charged to moor, but maybe that was their oversight. Of course there are already 3 stern on moorings with electric hook up on the Horning Village side of their frontage. As no other boats were moored stern on, we thought we would be too vulnerable to do so, therefore moored in their basin and still hooked up. A nice quiet night.
  24. We used Tim Waters last year as he has issued the previous certificates for our boat, very thorough and friendly. He lives at Potter Heigham so not far to come to our boat at Horning.
