  1. Good price I would agree. I have bit of a gripe with the Ferry as I have been booted out when they wanted to close early. Very poor form. Still I'll give it another go next month.
  2. That's good news John, I'll be in there shortly! For a food type pub their beer prices are suprisingly reasonable
  3. Hi John Ghost Ship is fairly strong but even so £3.80 a pint is somewhat taking the preverbial. I must admit these days I am tending to concentrate on the pubs that don't rip you off and don't close early either! Having said that my heart goes out to anyone in the clutches of Punch or Enterprise.
  4. Hi Lori We had the great honour of being shown around Ardea a couple of years ago. Stunning craft and a credit to her owner. Few photos attached.
  5. Big thanks to BB and Carol. Thanks to their dedication this footage is preserved for us all to enjoy. Well done!
  6. Hi and welcome Can't recall this particular duo - how long ago would it have been? Was it when it was known as the Pontiac or earlier? i think it was called something like the Three Feathers at one point.
  7. Hi Mandy I thought my ears were burning! Yes we certainly have a soft spot for Swan Royale, we have hired her for quite a few years now. Having said that all Swancraft boats are very good indeed. We’ll be back to annoy them next month – can’t wait!
  8. Tony at the boatyard has a dog so no worries there
  9. Great service, excellent yard, glad all OK, will be back in a few weeks
  10. Hi Janice I’ve walked to the Fur and Feather numerous times both from Salhouse Broad and the ‘back’ route from Horning ferry. The Salhouse Broad route is pretty much of 2 halves, through the woods to the car park and then up the road to the pub. The woodland path is OK but gently uphill all the way and can get very muddy in places. The road is probably a bit more challenging as its uphill all the way and there is no footpath. The road has several blind bends and cars tend to travel very fast not expecting to meet people on foot. I’ve had some near misses with speeding Chelsea tractors on that stretch. The trick is to change sides on the road so as far as possible you are on the outside of the bends. In short I think it would be a challenge for an 80 year old unless they were fairly sprightly. The taxi plan sounds good as per Jonzo’s suggestions. Wendy at Horning taxis is very good and helpful but at the wrong side of the river. Blofield Cars are also very good, we have used them a few times. Also if you moored at the opposite side to the Ferry at Horning, a taxi could in theory pick you up right next to the moorings. This road can flood in winter but should be OK in summer. Good luck!
  11. Good selection of trips and events featuring the Wherry Albion. Should be well worth a look to see and support this iconic vessel http://www.wherryalbion.com/events/ I was particularly interested to see that the Green Jack Brewery will be producing a special beer, the proceeds of which will contribute to the Trusts funds. If Green Jack are producing a beer I would expect it to be very good indeed!
  12. Indeed John! Good to hear about a pub opening for a change! Hope they can make a go of it.
  13. As if on cue a bit in the EDP http://www.eveningnews24.co.uk/news/rackheath_s_green_man_pub_back_in_business_1_3560725
  14. Hi Mark No, I have it on good authority from someone that had been to the re-opening. Only just happened though from what I can gather, I believe it was closed for a while.
  15. Not strictly Broads related I know as it’s someway from the river. However I remember the old Blakes handbooks always carried an advert for the Green Man along the lines of “nearly at your boatyard – stop off for one at the Green Man, Rackheath etc etc” I understand that it has been renovated recently. Apparently it had lots of old pictures and a plaque relating to the nearby airfield where Douglas Bader flew from. It seems all this old memorabilia has disappeared which is very sad. Regrettably it’s a pub I have never been in but I just wondered (long shot I know) if anyone had any photos of the pub as it was, particularly of the interior? Many thanks
  16. Massingham butchers in Hoveton are very good as are Cawdrons in Stallham (IMHO of course) !
  17. I walked past a few weeks ago. I'm pretty sure they are closed Mondays and Saturday afternoon. As others have said they will almost certainly be closed Good Friday. However it might be worth giving them a bell just in case they'd be willing to prepare it the day before for collection. Might be worth a phone call. Good butchers. Otherwise Roys might be an option. I wouldn't risk my burgers from Tesco! :-o
  18. Did you make it to Pleasure Boot Jon????
  19. I like the sound of the 235hp motor! :-)
  20. Sounds a good night indeed! Can you bring the boot round the Humber and pick me up?
  21. The Pleasure Boat website is a bit out of date – they are still in February!! Sounds a good night though. I believe the grub is good too and they often have a decent guest beer on – Lacons or Humpty Dumpty. Good pub.
  22. Hi Mandy Sorry can’t find much photo wise of the interior which isn’t on the website. The photos are accurate and give a true representation. I believe Swancraft were going to refit the galley for this season but don’t quote me on that. The toilets were refitted a couple of years ago with new basins and wc’s. The compartments are not massive but there is plenty of room to shower in comfort. As I mentioned earlier Swancraft have very high standards of maintenance so I would be most surprised if you have any problems. Please bear in mind it is an older boat albeit very well maintained and this is reflected in the price.
  23. Hi there We have hired Swan Royale virtually every year for the last 10 years, it is our favourite boat. In fact we will be back again at the end of May. Also you have made an excellent choice of boatyard. Swancraft are a small family run yard, you will be very well looked after, nothing is too much trouble for them. Swan Royale is an older boat but Swancraft really do look after their boats so everything is immaculately maintained. I don’t think you will be disappointed. The saloon is very comfortable with an L shaped settee. Visibility is excellent particularly with the roof down. The boat handles very well and you also have bow thrusters for added manoeuvrability. The engine is extremely economical, if you go with the tides and stick to around half throttle you will use very little fuel. We typically use around 40 – 50 litres a week, although that is usually in June so we don’t use the heating much. I’m sure that you will be very happy with your choice. I know this boat pretty well so please ask away if you need any more info. If the lottery came up I’d certainly be making Swancraft an offer!
  24. If you do go down the Hoseasons route, the extra nineteen quid with Summercraft could be money well spent
