  1. I'm a bit confused if this thread is about Evening Light or Dilham!
  2. I'm sure you cope very well Grace (particularly with a glass of wine in hand) I would guess that by the afternoon they should have spread out so I'm sure that you'll be OK. The 3 Rivers race will get a lot of coverage on here so there should be plenty of information about it. Again having a smaller boat like Evening Light is a bonus, you'll have a great time!
  3. don't worry Paul - I'm not sure if anything definite has been organised yet! As I understand it the race starts from Horning on Saturday morning and contestants have the option of how they tackle the course - it covers Ludham Bridge, Acle Bridge and Potter Heigham Bridge hence the 3 rivers bit. Its all about tactics which order you tackle them in. It shouldn't bother you too much - just keep well over to the right hand bank if you see flappy stuff ahead or even better adjourn to the pub!
  4. Three Rivers Race Just in case the OP is not familiar, this is probably the biggest yacht race in the Broads calendar and usually is held the first weekend in June. it starts from Horning but will work up to Potter Heigham among other places. It is a great spectacle if you like flappy things - no doubt Mr Q and others could give advice. I think by the time they get to Potter they will have split up and spaced out so no great problem I would think.
  5. I'm sure you'll (and us) be fine by then Paul. I'm sure you'll have a great time. I think the fishing normally starts on the 15th. If it's any consolation the rivers are usually quieter then after the May Bank Holiday. Lots of daylight and (usually) good weather. I'm afraid I'm not a fishing fan and often go at that time for the above reasons!! No offence of course!! Hope you'll report back with your holiday tale and piccies!!
  6. That's exactly what was fitted on Swan Radiance. It had a small airing cupboard with a tall domestic size tank. It had a thick insulation coating. Gallons of hot water which kept hot for ages. Cost more initially but well worth the investment.
  7. Spilt the difference - go for it on the 1st of December
  8. Sssssssshhhhhhh Helen, but yes!!!!!
  9. I'm a bit surprised with all this talk about the 'C' word things are very quiet in Pontypandy.................. Shhhhhhhhhh Mr Nog! Don't tempt fate
  10. Swancraft fitted large well insulated calorifiers meaning lots of hot water which even kept warm overnight. But as PS says generally not much capicity. We never shower before setting off, usually underrway so one can shower while the other takes the helm. Water heats quicker too and no running engine on moorings!
  11. https://forum.norfolkbroadsnetwork.com/topic/19855-turning-space-at-dilham/
  12. I reckon that's right. The plate at the helm says 6ft 10 so there will be a bit of a safety margin. I doubt if there would be a problem with Wroxham or Wayford. regarding getting stuck - the pilots wouldn't take you through if they thought there was a risk. There have been occasions when this has happened but often due to heavy rain or adverse weather generally. it shouldn't be a problem. However Potter is more dictated by winds and tide rather than rainfall. PS agree with Simon - I think Potter nowadays is a slim chance - but you never know!
  13. Just trying to place where it is, this was the area around Hunters yard, is this anything to do with it?
  14. Hi Paul Thanks for your reply, glad to help. June is a good time of the year and a good choice of boat so you may be lucky. Very hard to predict as weather conditions at the time will influence the river levels. Best to have a plan B but we will keep fingers crossed for you!
  15. ........oh, forgot to mention, they have a low air draught - can't remember exactly, Woods will probably overstate it but around 6 ten I guess. No problem with Wroxham - the only iffy one might be Potter but not much gets under there these days. You've given yourself the best chance though.
  16. Hi Paul Apologies, the computer takes about 3 hours to get up steam. I’ve hired Evening Light 3 and 4. However as mentioned there are 4 of them and they all are pretty much identical. Faircraft Loynes have a couple too – must have been a batch built. No4 was badged as Freedom of Light for a while. They were in Woods Elite Fleet until a few years back. Now 20 years old they are starting to look a little tired but still a very nice boat. They are based on the Alpha 31 foot hull and have the bathing platform at the back, access is very easy. They are a very nice boat for 2 although they will sleep 5 I believe. Not sure how many in your party, it would be a bit cosy if you had 5 on board. They are shaft drive, the engine is in a box next to the rear berth but it is quiet enough under way. They seem very economical if you take it steady and go with the tide. Heads are compact but very functional. A curtain pulls across the door for showers and there is plenty of room. Jabsco pump type toilet. The cookers have been replaced and they have an inverter, think it’s about 1400 watts. You can get a microwave but think you need to ask. They handle well and being 31 feet are easy to moor. One slight oddity is the front and rear doors which are household double glazed types. They are getting a little bit creaky but certainly draught free – a good winter boat but that shouldn’t worry you in June. One advantage of these doors is the full height glazing which makes stern on mooring a breeze. Most boats have half glazed rear doors. They are a nice boat, if I had the money and the opportunity I would buy one. Attached are a few photos of 4 – as I say the others are very similar. If you have any specific questions please let me know and I’ll try to answer them.
  17. Looks like Coronation Street tonight then M
  18. Hi there, there are 4 of these - I can give some info, I'll post a bit later when I can steam up the computer. (You've a good memory Grace)
  19. That's a fascinating article JM, many thanks for sharing. Jimmy Hoseason was clearly a very shrewd operator. I like the bit about the ladies making the decisions (not like on here of course) The bit about listening to others and using complaints as a positive were clearly among his 'golden threads' which is again highlighted in this Hoseasons newsletter from 1994.
  20. Thanks, that makes sense. Variations on the hull design no doubt.
  21. You can just make out the 77k sticker on the rear door of one of my photos. That was taken in February 2016. I wish I'd investigated a bit further as I've no idea what the fit out (or lack of) was. Trouble is I'm a seasoned fender kicker, I couldn't afford the mudweight!
  22. Just had a look at the Kris one, nice boat, yes I would say that's an Alpha mould. Looks like the 35 foot version a la Swan Radiance.
  23. I didnt look too closely, sorry but I suspect that was for a day boat variant. I'm guessing a full fit out would set you back well over 100k and probably then some. I may be wrong (and happy to be proven so) I have a feeling some of those Heritage ones are based on the old Alphacraft moulds. These were bought by the Barnes Brinkcraft brothers. The build appears to be done by Viking (not sure if they are connected to BB). If you want to buy a mould from them I gather the price is eye watering as is the finished product. My perfect boat (apart from Swan Royale) would be Swan Reflection and it would be great to get a new build when the lottery comes up but not at those prices!
  24. Herbert Woods had this one on display in their car park a few years back. The notice at the back advertised it for sale at 77k - I'm guessing this was the dayboat variant. I think they are certainly trying to make the most out of the one hull. I wouldn't rule out trying one at some point in the future although Mrs Nog as chief mooring officer was not keen on the narrow decks. But as has been mentioned given the air draught and beam it would have the best chance under the bridges although Woods do say it will only pass under Potter at extremely low tide.
