  1. Indeed it is/was JM - maybe easier before that big building appeared. However I've only ever been there once by road and if memory serves it was quite out of the way so could maybe be missed land-wise.
  2. Ha ha! Few interesting ones particularly outside JM's old gaff. Nice little sports car there - Triumph is it?
  3. I've posted these before but can't remember where. Included the afore mentioned Eagle.
  4. Fully understand and very wise, just curious! Yep, remember that one. Shame it's gone but at least the White Horse is not too far to stagger. Eagle gone too, good little pub.
  5. Absolutely!!! Get in the York Tap with Mrs N on the double gins and it soon evaporates! Good fun though
  6. Can we ask which pub we are talking about Mr Q sir or would that compromise your privacy?
  7. Possibly nicked from the Iron Duke - I've an idea they've done a runner. I believe that there is a group hoping to restore it so hopefully it can be brought back. The falcons are still around if you look - the excellent Butchers Arms in Beccles and the Barking Smack.
  8. Well absolutely JM! Slight problem being an impecunious Yorkshireman. Mind you Chris could have a valid point.................
  9. This is purely an academic observation as I don't have any money! But if I did it would be a model I would certainly be interested in. A smaller boat as most of the syndicate ones are larger. Also fewer owners to hopefully avoid the draw system and more certainty of getting the time you would like. I'll do an extra line on the lottery this weekend!
  10. Looks very interesting, I'll have a proper look when I can steam up the computer. Might be some I've been in! Wherry at Langley certainly. Plus the Railway Tavern and the Castle and...........(don't get me started)
  11. I couldn't have put it better, my thoughts exactly. It's been 3 months since I've had a proper pint, something to look forward to!
  12. Getting off the train at Norwich - always a magic moment.
  13. Yep, seconded - hard to beat. Nogcraft - have to think about the location though - near a good pub of course!
  14. At this price it's got to be the lease - the freehold would be eye watering. Nice little business anyone? https://www.edp24.co.uk/news/business/thatched-broads-restaurant-for-sale-7071582
  15. I wondered about that. Electric boats on the tidal Yare? Even up to Bramerton the tide flows quite fast. Hired from Phoenix a couple of times - they are ideal for the upper Thurne - maybe technology has advanced quite a bit!

I think latterly he was quite famed for his fish and chips?

Aw, what a shame. Real character. I believe he bought the pub from Brent Walker, he had been there a while. I remember going in with the previous Mrs Nog. No one behind the bar. One of the locals shouted that someone wanted serving. I think he was upstairs - possibly even in bed! He shouted down that they (us) couldn't be local or they would have served themselves! He sold proper cider - the former Mrs N had a couple of halves and had a distinct wobble on back to the boat. There was the old tale about him hiring out coats in the winter as he wouldn't light the fire. I think someone on here may have posted how he got his name - and it wasn't to do with shellfish! You don't get the characters running pubs these days - its great shame.
  18. Arguably the only really good Christmas song since the classics of the 1970's I seem to recall it was kept off the number one spot by a very morose song - can't remember who did it. Me and Mrs Nog made up our own Christmas CD to take on our December holidays and that's the opening track. Plus Carol's of course I once mentioned the Darkness to a young lady behind the bar in a pub in Lowestoft. Funnily enough she'd never heard of them!
  19. Someone has taken over Monica's job I've seen that before I'm sure. I'll try to remember. I think it's local to the area.
  20. Enterprise (or Ei as they like to be known now) Say no more
  21. Couldn't agree more. I don't like drinking at home at all. Don't drink on a boat either. For me, the place to drink is in a pub. I hope they haven't all gone bust by the time I'm out! Lost time to make up!
  22. The pub is owned by one of the Pub Co's - can't remember which one. All too familiar story unfortunately. My understanding is that a group have got hold of it and hope to bring it back to use. I think eventually GY council have been prodded into action. As I understand it it had been acquired by Bourne Leisure who also own the adjacent camp. They played dog in the manger - refused to sell it as they didn't want it to compete with the bar on their camp. i think they bowed under pressure eventually. Its a miracle that wasn't torched either.
