  1. Poppy / Paladin, can you supply any details as I might want to follow your info up. Thanks
  2. Fish Finder, before I consider a change of insurer based on your experience, can you advise which insurance companies do Edward William arrange their insurance policies through, and which European Community state authorises them? I would not want to make a false declaration to the Broads Authority to obtain my toll.
  3. Thanks for all the help and guidance folks, it is possible to buy at around £240 on the internet and best price I have found in Norwich is £264. Prices go up and down daily! Still undecided as now also looking at an Olympus with a 30X zoom. Ken
  4. Thinking of buying a new camera, does anyone have any views or know anything about the Fuji FinePix HS10 All help and advice gratefully received Thanks Ken
  5. If the County Council decision is to turn off the cameras, it looks like Norfolk Police will want to take over the operation. I heard a couple of weeks ago that a fatal accident now costs £1M+, so the A149 scheme seems like a very good investment to me as there have been no serious accidents on the relevant stretch of road since camera installation. I don't think our political leaders realise what a bargain schemes like this really are. Ken
  6. The deck areas on our boat are in need of some TLC so I started rubbing down yesterday. I have reached a point where all loose material has been removed from the section I have started. The previous coating had started to flake and came off in pieces an inch or two across leaving some depressions, whilst the remainder is sound and has good adhesion to whatever is underneath. Is there a product out there that can be used to fill the depressions back level with the surrounding area to provide a smooth surface to apply non-slip deck paint to? Thanks for any advice you are able to provide. Ken
  7. Much cheaper at Force 4 Chandlery, £11.95 for what looks like the same item. Their reference no. 820033 www.force4.co.uk Ken

  9. Hi Notorious, I'm sure Maplin do the thing you are after, I have seen them advertised but I don't know what it is called. Their staff really should know though. Ken
  10. I think the Wroxham shop has relocated from along by the old Broads Hotel, might be wrong though. Ken
  11. When we moved to Norfolk last year we were really in need of a Yellow Pages but did not receive one until a few months ago. Internet connection was rubbish, and not much better now. There is still a need for it but hard to see how they can justify the price of the advertising. As newcomers, we use the village directories that are around in various locations, proved quite useful so far. Ken
  12. Anyone got any views on the best way to clean out the bilge area, methods, products etc.? Thanks Ken
  13. I've got one of these briefcase chargers connected to the domestic batteries. Seems to do the job keeping the charge up even if I go down to the boat some days and use the electric without starting the boat up. I've have one of the little trickle chargers at home but never connected it to the starter battery, would it be a good idea to connect it if the boat is not going to be used for several weeks? Ken
  14. Thanks for your replies. Some useful points to consider. Ken
  15. When leaving a boat on its mooring, not expecting to use it for a couple of weeks, is it best to leave the water tank full, empty or doesn't it matter? Ken
  16. Its what private enterprise is all about, they kill the goose that lays the golden egg. A few years back some yards were taken over by large international companies thinking they would make a quick killing in the Broads holiday industry. When they sold up and moved on the decline set in. The damage to the industry is probably irreparable. We should be grateful for what still remains, its a shame some are determined to continue the damage. The price of diesel in some locations is just an example of our rip off society.
  17. I'd be interested subject to date. Enjoy taking photgraphs but rarely achieve the result I want, a bit of help would be welcome. Ken
  18. The problem is Nigel, you will not be paying a bit more, you will be paying A LOT more. When will we ever learn. Ken
  19. Well said Pault, sums it up really. Far too big a risk to let Dave & Co get in, but they will......and then there will be plenty to moan about. Makes for some interesting forum topics in a couple of years time!
  20. It does not surprise me one bit that the FSA is not effective. Having worked in the banking industry for 38 years I cannot think of any other club capable of covering its tracks the way the financial sector does. World events are having a huge effect on the economies of all countries, the blame lies with the wealthy countries, USA ourselves etc, not the governments, they will never be allowed to control what goes on in finance, its the financial markets, the speculators, that rule. As for the future in the UK, the very thought of a Tory government again is just too terrible to consider............The rich get richer and the poor get poorer............suffering in the land!
  21. So it looks like we are all looking for a change then...................25%+ inflation, 15% interest rates, 3,000,000+ unemployed........ better be careful who we vote for then!
  22. What is the need to apply Antifoul on the Broads, I am sure that when I had our boat surveyed last year prior to purchase, the (well respected) surveyor told me not to bother with it unless I was keeping the boat in an area where there are mussels. Appreciate forum views please. Ken
  23. Thanks for the replies and advice, only had the boat a few months so still feeling our way. Looks like this will have to have its priority raised. Again, thanks.
  24. How often should one expect a bilge pump to run? Ours seems to pump every hour or so and we wondered whether this was excessive.
