  1. It probably means that the works have resulted in the bank slumping into the dyke if a local I was talking to is right. Hope it is not going to cause Eastwood Whelpton a problem.
  2. Andy, does this apply to people running warm air heating (fumes noise etc.) late into the night also? Far more irritating than an engine running IMHO. Of course we all find different things annoy different groups of people, what next the smell of a curry cooking?
  3. If the 30 mph speed limit sign is closely followed by a 50 mph repeater sign as on the road at Rackheath, what is the speed limit?
  4. If BMW owners were better educated they would be able to work out how to use the indicators!
  5. The moorings across the river are currently for sale https://www.watersideestateagents.com/properties-for-sale/wea572.html Currently owned and operated by the Vintage Boat Company I believe https://vintageboatco.com/ Don't know about any discounts
  6. Anyone using PAYPAL does so at their own risk, you have been warned!
  7. Does anyone know if the first photo in the last post has any relevance to the story? The reason I ask is because the boat in front of what appears to be a Richardsons hire boat, was for sale in PH last week.
  8. Whats the betting that the No Mooring signs will go up anyway?
  9. All schools can now set their own holiday dates rather than the old practice of local authority schools being off at the same time. Some people hope that this will have the affect of reducing the price surge when children are expected to be on holiday, I suspect however that it will result in a much extended peak holiday period that the holiday companys can exploit.
  10. The cost of anti fouling my boat in a yard would be more than £400 including liftout etc. It would have to have a very detrimental effect on my fuel economy to be worthwhile carrying out this work. Add this to the advice from my surveyor at purchase time that it was not needed, but of course the yards love to do it for the private owners, and you can draw your own conclusions.
  11. Anyone in favour of protecting the environment?
  12. Boom time on the Broads? Are you sure? May and June Northern Rivers very quiet from personal observation. July into August (school holiday time) able to moor at every location we tried, except Womack, and that was only once, other times several spaces. First time I have been able to moor at Ranworth in August for several years and there were spaces all day long. One Saturday evening in August space at Ludham Bridge / Horning Marshes and never full whenever we have been past despite the reduced mooring space available. Some BA moorings, eg. Cockshoot empty in August.
  13. I recently purchased a new leisure battery locally on the Broads and like you I had checked prices on line. The reason I was willing to pay a bit more was that a few years ago I had a 110ah that failed within the guarantee period. I returned it to the seller myself and a new replacement was provided. I do not know how much it would cost to return a battery to an online supplier but I am sure it would be an expensive and time consuming exercise. My new battery 110ah, cost a little under £80 and I am quite happy to pay that in the knowledge that should there be a problem I can get it resolved quickly. If you want to know my Broads supplier let me know for details.
  14. Marshman I think you are right in thinking a food discount was given for mooring above the bridge at sometime in the past. Can't think when or why though.
  15. . The mooring signs at this site indicate the present mooring is operated by the Vintage Boat Company, The Vintage Boat Company - Wayford Bridge Yacht Station, Wayford Bridge, Norwich, Norfolk, NR12 9LL, GB. On the face of it nothing to do with the hotel.
  16. I am surprised that this matter is being allowed to disappear off the current threads list. The points that kfurbank makes are so important to both private owners and hirers. On the face of it there are a number of boats on the Broads that may have invalid insurance or no insurance at all, that means in the event of a tradegy there will be no compensation for 3rd parties, is everyone happy with that situation? The Broads Authority administer the system and they must have a duty of care to all users of the navigation, its no good relying on declarations made annually when there is considerabe doubt about the validity of some so called insurance.
  17. I think that quite a few people on this thread are confused by how banks work. When I deposit money with a bank I get very little in return for it, little or no interest on the funds I have deposited whilst the returns for the banks on all the money gathered in is huge. I know what I am talking about 38 years in retail banking has not left me without quite a lot of knowledge on the subject. When I started in branch banking it was difficult to see how a bank branch could lose money. It was usually only bad lending decisions that created a loss situation in an individual branch. Then along came somebody with the idea of taking profitable accounts, usually successful local businesses, out of small branches and centralising them in large branches with the promise to the business customer of improved service from the main branch. Overnight a smaller bank branch was made unprofitable and a target for closure. I know it is evolution in the industry and it is how the system works, but don’t be fooled into thinking that branches of banks cannot be profitable. I could go on forever, Banking is an industry that is continually re-engineering itself, usually with little benefit for the customer who still provides the raw material to keep the wheels that make the profit turning.
  18. Too good a return on overseas aid to cut that, better to hit the local councils so we can blame them.
  19. Where I moor you enter into an agreement to take the mooring for a 12 month period. Give up the mooring and there is no refund. I suspect that this is widespread across the Broads. Far larger amounts involved than the BA toll but you enter into a contract and it is up to you whether you accept the terms and conditions, as you do when you toll a boat.
  20. Had a meal and drinks in the Wayford Bridge Inn on Wednesday evening and we were both pleased with our meals. Still a bit pricey for the Broads IMHO but things appear to be on the up. All 4 of the former MPW pubs appear to be under the management of Licensed Solutions Ltd so I guess they are behind the rescue. Decor in the bar area still leaves a lot to be desired.
  21. Unless the estate agents details have very recently been changed the details appear to be quite clear. TENURE Freehold. Note the Windmill is owned by the Windmill Trust not the vendors.
  22. Hi Fish Finder. Here is the declaration made when paying for the toll: I declare that there is in force a policy of insurance which:- (a) covers the owner of the vessel/s named below Boat List Name Registration Number and such other persons as are authorised by the owner to have control of the vessel(s) in respect of any liability which may be incurred by the owner, or any such other person, resulting from the presence of the vessel(s) in the navigation area or adjacent waters, in respect of death of, or bodily injury to, any person or any damage to property; and ( is for a minimum sum of £2,000,000 (two million pounds); and © is issued by an insurer authorised under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 to carry on in Great Britain or in Northern Ireland insurance business of a relevant class or who has corresponding permission under the law of another member state of the European Community. Hope this explains my concern Sorry about the odd smiley
  23. Given all of the above, I do not think I will be pursueing my interest further. One thing that I really do not get is how anyone with this insurance can make the lawful declaration required to obtain their tolls. Also, having checked my marina terms and conditions, I suspect I would be in breach of contract for not having valid insurance. The Financial Conduct Authority warning is definately up to date.
