  1. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b07k18jf . Documentary which follows presenters Dick Strawbridge and Alice Roberts as they explore the spectacular British landscapes that inspired children's author Arthur Ransome to write his series Swallows and Amazons. The landscapes he depicted are based on three iconic British waterlands. The beauty and drama of the Lake District shaped by ancient glaciers and rich in wildlife and natural resources, the shallow man-made waterways of the Norfolk broads so crucial to farming and reed production, and the coastal estuaries and deep-water harbours of the Suffolk coastline shaped by ferocious tides and crucial to trade. When ? Wednesday 6th July, BBC4 tv @8.00 pm.
  2. There's always one. Usually the same one
  3. She's welcome..... to sit on mine
  4. .... on the Thurne this afternoon. My four and a half year old granddaughter was enthralled when they welcomed here aboard their launch and showed her around. She had just returned from a sail with her mum and dad when they pulled up by the Sailing Club moorings. She has come back so excited - not unusual as she loves sailing, but this made her day, especially when he switched on his blue light Thanks guys.
  5. There isn't a Club close to the Viaduct, but there is Griffin Marine, also the BA engineering base nearby.
  6. No idea, but he did take it off when conducting HRH around the exhibit. Blooda hal, he doon' hev much hair, does he ?
  7. No Peter, but it says a HUGE amount about the National curriculum and how teacher's time is tightly managed . No space for fun and fripperies these days!
  8. I was once nose into the reeds ,lying head to wind hoisting sail in the time honoured fashion when I was offered a 'tow off the bank'. "Throw me a line, soon have you off there". " I'm OK thank you, I'll be away as soon as I've got the sails up" " Sure you're not stuck? " replied The Broads Authority River Inspector !!! Yes, one of those people employed to offer help and advice on navigation and boating issues.... Not that they're all like that ......
  9. This is the future for England - all alone and failing to compete with Iceland ..... Unbelievable. But enough about credit ratings, how'd the football go?
  10. No - it's a bronze bream. Quite common on the Broads.
  11. Guaranteed to sell more overpriced 'Red', as well
  12. Vaughan, My concern is about the installation costs, which can be considerable. I fully understand the charge to use the facility, which is right and proper. When In my caravan I have no qualms about that when I wish to use such facilities. I am simply worried that the Blessed Authority should not see this as another opportunity to 'up ' the tolls across the board !
  13. A decent bloke and a really intelligent Broadsman. R.I,P. http://www.edp24.co.uk/news/tributes_are_paid_to_a_champion_of_norfolk_broads_conservation_1_4577947
  14. Fair point (perhaps), but who is to pay for this ? I do not use shore power, never have and never will. *I would fight very hard against any such charge were it to be levied across the board on toll payers. How about a loading on those ( hire and private) who would use it?
  15. My point entirely ! Still wouldn't go that far though!
  16. I still maintain you don't go that far up the bank unless you are moving - fast! Think of the kinetic energy required to drive that mass that far up the bank...
  17. Undoubtedly speed (an excess of it! ) has a huge contribution in cases like this!
  18. Mods, I thought that anything 'political' was not welcomed on here ?
  19. Vaughan,It hasn't been like that for a number of years now . The Norfolk Wildlife Trust purchased the land some years ago, and it's now managed for conservation. It's once again as you remember it, I'm glad to say! More here http://www.wren.org.uk/projects/nwt-upton-broad-and-marshes-nature-reserve
  20. Donnygeoff, Here's how she explained it to me . "You're in a shoe shop, second in the queue for the till. Behind the shop assistant on the till is a pair of shoes which you have seen and which you must have. The female shopper in front of you has seen them also and is eying them with desire. Both of you have forgotten your purses. It would be rude to push in front of the first woman if you had no money to pay for the shoes. The shop assistant remains at the till waiting. Your friend is trying on another pair of shoes at the back of the shop and sees your dilemma. She prepares to throw her purse to you. If she does so, you can catch the purse, then walk around the other shopper and buy the shoes! At a pinch she could throw the purse ahead of the other shopper and "whilst it is in flight" you could nip around the other shopper, catch the purse and buy the shoes! But, you must always remember that until the purse has "actually been thrown", it would be plain wrong for you to be in front of the other shopper and you would be OFFSIDE!"
  21. .... and what role Donald Trump will play ?
