Why is it so difficult? There is a LAW! Why not OBEY it? Why do so many feel that they know better and should be allowed to do exactly what the see fit - and to hell with the rest ? We, every damned one of us have a responsibility to the wider society, and for very good reason!

Did you happen to notice which way the wind was blowing and how much on each journey? I've seen similar differences on each leg of a journey to Hillingdon from here in Norwich and back, using cruise in both directions. My experience is that CC actually helps fuel economy,

And there you have it - common sense. How much of it is deployed these days, especially on our roads ? And don't even start me on the Sunday 'born again bikers'.

Don't speed, no problem! Simples . ( I use my 'cruise control, most card have it now. Surprising how many folks refuse to....)
  7. Absolutely!! However it would appear that to include 'mains' in the inspection would require examiners to be qualified at the very least to C&G 'Inspection and Testing' level. "City & Guilds 2392 Course Content: This 2392 course covers both practical hands on skills as well as theory teaching. It is taught in a dual purpose classroom which allows you to put in to practice the the skills as and when you learn them. The course covers: Preparation for initial inspection and testing Electrical Inspection & Testing Training in the use of multi function testing meters Safe isolation procedures and equipment Inspection & testing documentation Continuity of Protective Conductors Continuity of Ring final circuit conductors Insulation Resistance Protection by SELV Polarity Earth Electrode resistance Earth fault loop impedance RCD testing Prospective fault current Verification of volt drop The above consist of both practical workshop and theoretical classroom electrical training." Periodic refreshers will be required........ Seemed it wasn't a popular idea.....
  8. The toll payer has only to have third party insurance - and even then is only required to sign a declaration that " there is in force a policy of insurance" etc More to be found on your toll demand.
  9. And the '28 day' rule? I doubt you could ever get rid of that!
  10. Never can and never will be able to deal with stupidity ! " Eteson, according to the court’s ruling, was a registered and experienced Gas Safe installer. He fabricated an exhaust system for the generator and used the generator to power a fan heater in the passenger quarters while he, Webster and her daughter slept. The generator was not secured or anchored to the floor and joints in the exhaust pipework were poorly fabricated. The temperatures generated caused the pipework to fail as soft soldered joints melted," I've no doubt there are craft on the Broads with a valid BSS ticket which since it was issued, have been 'modified'
  11. http://www.ybw.com/news-from-yachting-boating-world/lake-district-boat-safety-scheme-not-comprehensive-17485 "Mark Eccles, Head of Park Management for the Lake District, said the authority believed education was the best means of ensuring boater safety." Oh for such an enlightened view from our (NOT A ) National park Authority !
  12. You can have plenty of hot water for any purpose. Your engine will be providing it when underway - just take turns at showering, helming etc.....
  13. Heading out to Barton yesterday on the NOT's 'Pandora' yacht. . We were being towed out by 'White Admiral' as the yacht has no outboard at present. It's such a hard life, this retirement .
  14. Nowhere did I say that my comment was directed solely to hirers JM I agree entirely!
  15. It occurs to me that people should be made aware that a holiday on a boat is not 'home from home' and therefore expectations should be adjusted accordingly. As well as sailing, we have a touring caravan, and can manage happily on one 110 amp leisure battery for 5 - 7 days without access to mains hook up or a generator of any type.
  16. There is only ONE type of carpet that should be used in boats IMHO - that's 'Flotex'. It's pressure washable and virtually completely stain proof. It also needs no binding. If you can find a commercial carpet fitter you may be able to find a suitable off cut, It's also available as tiles.
  17. The sound of people scraping the ice off their windscreens before they drive to work! Haven't heard it much this winter but can hear it this morning. Anyhow, I'm off to Barton Broad now. Not sure what I'll be doing this morning, bit of sailing this afternoon.

    Tolls

No, didn't you know? Every year the BA have a secret draw for a free toll ?
  19. Poppy

    Tolls

It must be YOU this year - who's getting a free one
  20. Poppy

    Tolls

They'll get mine the day it's due, not a second earlier. It's not about 'interest', I just don't like 'em (Oh, and no 'Toll' is due if the boat isn't in the water )
  21. The small round one is the one I have . Works fine on my little single cylinder VP - and only a tenner at a boat jumble
  22. Dream on Senator! It will free up property for 'buy to let'.
  23. And you dear Wussername would undoubtedly have been found responsible!
