  1. Bit of a catch 22 there BowWave. If the customer can opt out, this must make it less attractive to the advertiser. Those who can easily afford to opt out almost certainly would. Those would be the people to whom the advertiser would be aiming his adds. If the customer did not have this option, more companies would advertise. This extra revenue should be used to maintain a high quality journal with equally high quality articles. This would encourage greater readership, which in turn would encourage good companies to advertise. Just my view of course, but it is correct
  2. When I was a lad, we used to hire boats from Blakes, and the catalog advertising the boats always had a small footnote along the lines of... "This boat will not normally pass under Potter Heigham bridge". I assume that Hoseasons brochure was much the same. I've just looked at a boat in an on-line brochure but this info wasn't there. May I ask the hire fleet people here why this info seems to have disappeared? Ok, I know the correct answer to that question should be "Yes you may"... so... Why has this info seemed to have disappeared?
  3. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0wbrGlSFHY I hope that works, certainly my favourite Christmas song. Have a really great one, one and all.
  4. What seems to be required here is an interface between the live website and the beta one. This would be the System Monitor and Control (1.0) version. So, next time you lose your picture, or the computer does anything else you didn't want it to, just look at it and say... "You're asking for a SMaC Interface". I find this sorts out most problems and even if it doesn't, it makes me feel one hell of a lot better.
  5. Many people arrive by car, that doesn't mean they're all driving (2 or more in a car) so car parks are necessary. I too favour the 0% in blood, everyone knows where they stand when that's the case, but that's for cars... NOT BOATS!!!!!
  6. We all admire vice John, it's rears that I'm questioning! Yes, Hoops and red tape a plenty I'm sure, but insurmountable? It still seems a good idea to me.
  7. Headed up by a Rear Admiral perhaps.
  8. Who stands on the poop deck? All other comments have been self moderated.
  9. First of all BarnesB, Welcome to the forum. I hope you become a regular poster here, and it's good to read your side of the tale. For my mind, what you describe illustrates perfectly the weaknesses of on-line reviews. I have always been of the opinion that only positive reviews should be accepted on line, the implication would be that "big company, low number of reviews" says more than published comments that can be somewhat exaggerated. Just my take on it, and I know that many disagree, anyway, good luck and I say again, Welcome.
  10. No I don't, but what an interesting concept for a business plan! I can think of all sorts of names one could have for it. Ps. I'm reluctant to say.... " I'm in! "
  11. I don't know who Roy Webster is, but he does seem to require a little more research into his subject. If I remember correctly, Rod licences came into existence in the 1970s and not as he strongly implies in the 50s or before. Nah, he's just jumping on the "lest we forget" band wagon, and, if I might make so bold, in a somewhat distasteful and melodramatic manner.
  12. Just to add, I sometimes wonder about writing articles on various subjects as a sort of "paying hobby". BowWave, I'd be interested in your approach towards freelance journalism, as perhaps would others here.
  13. Looking out at the frost at the moment, Articles about winterising and how to do it would be handy. Yes I know there is a thread about that very subject at the moment but it could make a good interesting article.
  14. My observations as to how many swallows are needed to make me smile and think of summer would be modded pretty smartish, however that's twice in quick succession Yodel have done the bisso.!
  15. I am a great believer in things being legal unless there is good reason for them not to be. (with evidence backing it up) Drinking and driving a car has proved to be dangerous, it is therefore right and proper that it is illegal. What statistics are there to support similar limits for boating? The Helmsman is the only person who is in the cockpit and therefore relatively safe. He should be allowed to drink but his passengers MUST NOT. They are the ones who will be doing the mooring up, They are the ones who will be dancing on the roof, They are the ones who will be sitting on the gunwale dangling legs in the water. Be very careful when trying to set laws for other people. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
  16. Staggering, My parcel was delivered by Yodel at 16:30 today. Excellent service, what more can I say!
  17. Sorry CC, I don't agree with you on that one (The river bit) It wopuld devastate the Norfolk Broads as a holiday venue.
  18. Thanks Andy, I need to have smaller idle thoughts! Robin, I remember looking at Motor boat & Yachting magazine when the Moonraker was in production. Very much one of my pipe dreams, and although shorter than the Marauder, I still prefer it's lines. Thinks... Perhaps if instead of an engine, I had the Ocean 30 equipped with rowlocks. Maybe that would bring the price down.
  19. I understand that not having fashion pages is quite the in thing these days.
  20. Better that than the "natural" smell of traditional Harris Tweed!
  21. Plum pudding? (I nearly typed that as "Plumb"!) Pot plant that happens to be a Norwegian spruce?... Christmas cards are a waste of money anyway, so no great loss there, and perhaps a large jar of humbugs for any guests that happen to drop in.
  22. Idle thinking (that's what I'm good at) But I wonder how much it would cost to have a boat made from the Ocean 30 mould, being Hull, Superstructure, floors and windows, plus an engine leaving the rest for self completion.... As I say, just an idle thought!
  23. Of course Iain, I should have allowed for that
  24. I feel really sorry for you. Nothing worse than sand in the Christmas Pud!
